I hope it's fine to post the following message here. If you believe it doesn't belong on the V forum please let me know and I will ask the admins to remove it.
After many years of running Canucks Abroad and this thread with a small team of dedicated volunteers (that include many Voyageurs) I have decided to launch our project on Patreon. Basically it's just an opportunity for stakeholders who use our services to give back financially to compensate us for the countless hours we have invested in keeping the database up to date and the twitter monster fed.
Feel free to check out our Patreon page here: . Please note the database  "Mother Of All Canadians Abroad List" will remain intact, and it's the exact same one we use on our website.
We've also updated www.canucks-abroad.ca recently if that's of interest. Some of you have heard that we launched a #CanPL discord a while ago. It's a little thriving community, feel free to check it out as well.
Happy tracking and see you next Tuesday!

Why would a professonal player sit out for a year, it makes no sense? Unless you are joking, can we stop with this silliness guys.

While it is possible that Potter was wowed by Borjan during the UEFA cup, it really just reads like the site is identifying the Tier Two clubs that need goalies and putting a name to them.  And even if it is true, Bristol and West Brom only need back ups. Heck, Villa need a goalie more than any of those teams.

You would be right.  They were 2d division last few years, but were relegated last year.  Team should have a good infrastructure for that level.

There are plenty of young people who finish their BA, have debt and decide to go abroad to do internships in developing countries for next to no pay.  I would think of it as the same for footballers.  You need a sense of adventure, willingness to take a risk and an understanding that you are earning a meager living for the next year or more.  The payoff is that it gets you experience, and it might lead to something more sustainable.  If not - you took a chance, you are set back financially from if you stayed home, and you go back to living with your parents looking for that desk job that allows you to comb through Voyageurs forums on Monday mornings.

All of these reasons apply to the CanPL as well.
Look, I'm for a Canadian league like the rest of you. However I'm skeptical it will be a succes. Because:
    1. Level of play
    2. Minor cities
    3. MLS
I'm afraid if it doesn't catch on fast (within 3 years) it will crash. And then it's probably over for at least another decade (and maybe forever).

From what I have read USL salaries might average around 2000 US a month, with some teams paying 2-3 grand a month. Only for the season and preseaon, so a few months without pay. Often including housing. There is no minimum, so many could be making less. That is similar to 2B in Spain.
It is only worth seeking out chances in Europe, in all lower tiers but especially-Spain, if
-you have an EU passport and can live and work freely where you want.
-you are young and believe you have a real chance to rise and improve your status, or want the competitive experience.
-you happen to latch onto a stronger club that can pay a bit better and aspires to promotion; or if it is a B team of a higher level club.
-you happen to have some reason for being in that place, like having family nearby, or can even work in something else part time to compensate.

We are starting to get quite a few players in very modest lower divisions in Europe, starting to be a good wide base. Have to hope that some of them start to move up, though in these divisions it is pretty hard to go from a multi-division tier to a single national division, it is a big step up.

Dane Domic is on trial at Sparta Rotterdam - who were just promoted to the Eredivisie.
Sparta Rotterdam take duo on trial
Eredivisie newcomers Sparta Rotterdam will give Dane Domic and Tadej Apatič the chance to impress the club on trial.
Domic, a 19-year-old midfielder, and Apatič a 28-year-old left back will join up with the club during their first training session on Saturday and try to earn a deal.
Domic recently played for Canadian side Calgary Villains, while Apatič is a free agent after leaving Austrian amateur side Deutschlandsberger SC.

Don't know anything about this kid, but apparantly he was playing with the Calgary Villains recently.  A quick google search brought up this Calgary Sun article on the lad, so I am assuming that he is Canadian.

I have not watched Yallop's teams too much, but it seems harsh to say that he is not MLS caliber when he has won the MLS Cup x2, coach of the year x2, and supporter's shield.
Agree that it is a steep step. However, considering his recent record he feel this is the time to  step back and reconsider his methods/playing style.
