He would be at least a sub (2nd string) on every MLS team and a starter on some. Comparing 2nd and 3rd division Germany to USL and NASL is a joke. Send any of our USL guys to Germany and see if they could even be a reserve on a D3 team. They would have a hard time even being a starter in the Regionnalligas.

He wouldn't start on any MLS teams barring the deathbed Chivas USA of a few years ago. He has never played top division soccer in his career and he's on the wrong side of 30.

  2. Thanks for looking in. I agree that we should be tracking. Would love a player like that to join out set up.

At the same time, I will hardly be dissapoined if he plays for Chile. Since he was born in Canada to Chilean parents and then grew up in Chile, I would easily understand his decision. Now, if he grew up in Canada and played in our system and then left and opted for Chile, that would be hard to swollow, but ultimately I believe the way to go is to take it with grace, rather than resorting to character attacks and whatnot.

The reality is that we need to continue making our program attractive to players with multiple options. Our country is multicultural and our government has a policy that encourages multiculturalism. It is the same cultural phenomenon that's contributed to the popularity of this sport as I am concerned. It is our blessing and our curse. So, we just have to continue deal with it by making Canada an attractive option.

Yep and in a case like his, where he was raised in Chile, I personally would cheer him on if he does make it into Chile's set up. Kind of like how I'll always support Cristante even if he doesn't play for us just because he does have a Canadian connection.

  3. Apologies if this is elsewhere, I could not find any reference to the player in the MOACA or in any threads, but Cristian Daniel Gutierrez Zuniga (1997, born in Quebec City) has been making regular starts in Chile. Signed through 2019 according to this: https://twitter.com/alejandr0valdes/status/662068809591889920

Bring this to the CSA's knowledge. He's young enough for our U20 camps.
