  1. I played before the national training centre was in existence. Nova Scotia was the best Atlantic Province in soccer before the NTC. Why? Generally the best talent in Canada is found in the biggest cities. The biggest city in Atlantic Canada is Halifax. The vast majority of Provincial team roster's players were from Halifax. That's where the competition was highest for players. Probably a combination of diversity, facilities, competition, high level training and numbers. Hard to attend the Provincial team practices in Halifax If you live in Cape Breton 5 hours away. When we'd go to nationals and inevitably place 5-7th our coach theorized the reason was lack of high quality competition at home. You don't stay sharp and improve playing against 2 good teams and 5 garbage teams in the NSSL every year. New Brunswick and PEI tournaments didn't help either, as they were always a lower level of competition. It's the same idea for pro youth academies: Train hard and find the best competition to challenge yourself. Stephen Hart trained my u13 club team for 2-3 months as a supplemental regional training centre when I was a kid. I don't think kids in rural N.S got those opportunities.
  2. Any idea of what to expect for crowds this year?
  3. Yes, but goals? Here's hoping.
  4. He's from rural Nova Scotia, really rural. Not much soccer in really rural Canada outside of timbits.
  5. I understand what you mean, but until you prove you can actually get a win in Central America, I don't care who is on your team. Our defence also doesn't inspire much confidence, either on paper or on the pitch.
  6. He's the only young guy. Vanney must like something he sees.
  7. Impossible to understand what they're doing. I'm sure it'll work out when they sign a 35 year old striker from Europe.
  8. None of those players are goal scorers, even if they have big roles. novillo's recent club career shouldn't fill anyone with confidence either.
  9. I hope Montreal make some signings soon, because I don't think they are anywhere close to a playoff team currently. Urruti was frustrating in dallas, not a clinical finisher whatsoever. This team looks like another season of "hope Piatti can beat 3 guys on his own and score again" Diallo is healthy and could be key at CB, but they need goals in addition to an improved defence this year.
  10. Bayern just signed Taylor Booth from RSL academy. Bayern bought Chris Richards from FC Dallas for 1.5 million recently. He played on their preseason tour. Gio Reyna was probably the most hyped USSDA player the last two seasons and recently signed with Dortmund. Nick Taitague has an excellent chance to make his Bundesliga debut with Schalke before the end of the season. 18 year old Alex Mendez tore up the u20 Concacaf tournament last year, won player of the tournament and joined SC Freiburg in October. He is outstanding. Those are a few prospects in Germany. Does our entire system have anything that compares to what the Americans have just in germany? Sergino Dest just signed his first pro contract for Ajax after coming through their system. Ledezma left Real Monarchs for PSV for last year. Zach steffan was bought by Man City recently. Timothy Weah has played in League 1 with PSG. He recently went on loan with Celtic and has scored goals immediately. Reggie Cannon is probably the best RB in MLS and he's 20! Could you imagine how much bragging we would be doing if he was our player?
  11. How many young Americans have played in the Bundesliga this year? Not been on the books and appeared for the reserve team or youth team, but played? Haji Wright - Schalke Josh Sargent - Werder Bremen Christian Pulisic - Dortmund Weston McKennie - Schalke Tyler Adams - Leipzeg I'll just start there. How many players do we have playing in a top 4 league this year?
  12. Tabla and Miller are still prospects, not playing regular 1st team football in top leagues. Contrast that with players like Weston McKennie.
  13. We've got a handful of promising young players, the U.S has an absolute boatload of them right now.
