The article was just updated with the following:

Editors note: In a subsequent email to Sportsnet, the CPL confirmed that in addition to the roster requirements mentioned above by David Clanachan that another rule mandates that a minimum of three domestic players on each team must be under the age of 21 AND those players must play a minimum of 1,000 minutes per season.

That's a bit of a change. Definitely working on development of young players. I think this works as extra push to keep on some of the U-Sports draftees beyond training camp. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

How about a giant box that covers you from head to toe and is made of a one-way mirror so you can see out, and everyone else can see their good looking (or not so good looking) selves? Added bonus, it would confuse people on the field. It could totally work...

In all seriousness, I can hardly wait for these kits to be unveiled. Still trying to decide which club I'll follow. I originally wanted one I could actually see in person, but it's a pretty lengthy drive to anyone. The kits may just help tip the scale.

I should have posted about the Lake Side Buoys last Sunday before it happened, sorry if anyone missed it.

That said, we had a great turnout, about 25 people gathered to have a pint, chat about the team, play a FIFA tournament on a Playstation we set up and most importantly to collect their 2019 membership packages including our brilliant new scarf. Oh, and people got to talk with Josh Simpson and Michael Silberbauer for a couple of hours.

We are looking to do another social night next month, Lake Side Bowls, if we can secure a booking for the private lanes at the bowling alley next to the stadium. Keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and now, Instagram accounts.

I'll be supremely disappointed if this is the case. I'll still go whenever I visit for business, and will buy a jersey, but will only wear it on weekends when I am at home.
Unless it looks dope en tabernak and has their awesome city crest on the front. In which case, it's officially work attire.

Trafford would be a good get. I was always disappointed when Fury let him go. Maybe a move to Pacific FC given their very strong BC-contingent?

On January 24th. at the OSA Soccer this Thursday there will be a League 1 Ontario player combine . This is for the CPL to look at some of the better players in League 1 Ontario and see if there might be a few players who could make the jump to the CPL this season .

Some interesting broadcasting tidbits from UEFA's annual benchmark leagues report:
The 20 Premier League clubs received €1.8B ($2.05B) more TV money than they did a decade ago and 54% of Premier League revenue comes from TV rights.
Sweden has the most equitable model in respect to the distribution TV money with a ratio of 1:1.2. The Premier League ratio is 1:1.3 while Portugal is 1:15.4!
The only countries in Europe that don’t sell TV rights centrally are Cyprus and Portugal.
Celtic received six times as much from participating in the Champions League group stage as they did from Scotland’s domestic TV deal.
Only Barcelona, Juventus, and Real Madrid banked more TV money than the 20th Premier League club.
    Other tidbits:
In the 2018/19 season, there are 62 different manufacturers across the 54 top divisions. Nike 18% and Adidas 16% have a combined market share of 34%. Joma, Macron, and Puma are the only other manufacturers with a market share of more than 5%.
In the last decade, the number of leagues with a “split-season” format has gone from 8 to 18.
Northern Ireland has the highest percentage of foreign ownership - 6 of 9 (66%). The Premier League is just behind - 13 of 20 (65%).
For most clubs, the matchday fans remain the heartbeat of the club, but
the percentage of overall club revenue that is accounted for by ticketing
has continued to decline, falling from 22% in 2008 to 14% in 2017.
Iceland has the shortest domestic league season, with a total duration of 155 days.

That has to be the most misleading statement I have seen in a long time.  How you make the connection from 1mil registered "participants" to 1mil unemployed soccer players is the snake river canyon of logic leaps.  You can make your point (more jobs for CDN players/which I agree with) without using a completely BS argument.  I thought you had been making a a lot of sense for awhile on this thread, dont muck it up now.

I agree 100% with your assessment that having a minority of foreigners playing in the CPL can be a very good thing for developing Canadian talent, if these foreigners are the right class of players such as you have described. However, with nearly one million unemployed registered soccer players in Canada, I do feel that the emphasis should remain on hiring Canadians players!

"There are nearly 1,000,000 registered Canada Soccer active participants in Canada within 1,200 clubs that operate in 13 provincial/territorial member associations."

There was some tongue-in-cheek hyperbole in my post, I'll give you that.
The point was meant to be:  Everyone is going to have their own criticisms of the league.  I'd just hate to see those criticisms turn into reasons for serious soccer fans not to support the league.  Growth of the sport in the country is what we all want, even if the vehicle for that growth is not perfect.
'For Canadians, by Canadians' can mean any number of things.  It is essentially a marketing strategy (hopefully a successful one).  Thankfully it comes with certain guarantees for Canadian content. Whether or not they go far enough is absolutely up for criticism and debate.
So far the signings of players and hirings of coaches and assistant coaches and goalie coaches have been pretty overwhelmingly Canadian.

Eventually, the Logo will be the mark the league is known by. They won't have to have any words associated with it because everyone knows what the symbol means and will be interpreted by their brains in the language of choice. It will be like the McDonald's or Starbucks symbols - it doesn't matter what country you are in, you know what it means.

Maybe another piece of information we've learned from Clanachan update this morning:

Come game day, teams will have to start at least six Canadians. That is the only proviso, allowing coaches to make their normal substitutions without concern over citizenship. So 6 Canadians MUST start but there's no obligation to maintain a minimum of 6 Canadians at all time on the pitch.

The only problem is that he's on like, 128k USD.... so MLS would need to pay a big chunk of that contract... If that happens though FCE could pretend theyre paying it, add it into their average, and claim to be one of the highest spending teams in USL! 😉
