  1. DM Jordan Schweitzer, who is born, raised and developed in the United States, but holds a Canadian passport, has been signed by the Seattle Sounders as a home grown player. I'm not the biggest fan of tracking these types of players but I know others like to, so here you are.

    And from the Sounders: http://www.soundersfc.com/post/2016/01/07/sounders-fc-signs-defensive-midfielder-jordan-schweitzer-sixth-homegrown-player

  2. Looks like Gasparotto's loan with Greenock Morton is going to be extended through the rest of the year. I think that's a fantastic piece of news, especially given that he will get much more playing time against the same level of competition that he would at Rangers. Sounds like he is impressing as well, just like he impressed at Airdrieonians last year. Have to think it's only a matter of time before he makes his senior team debut.

  3. Tyler Blackwood is a team mate of Petrasso's.  Seems like a joke to me with Blackwood pretending to be a fan... if there was any truth to it surely there would be a better means of communication between teammates than a comment on a public photo.

Interesting. Seems a little bizarre that a teammate would do that, especially considering there's no talk anywhere else of him leaving.

  4. And my short suggestion to making the program attractive is to make being a professional footballer in Canada attractive. Show local youth that you can actually make a living out of playing a sport in this country, rather than having to go to Chile or Scotland or France to try and hack it.

Right now there are three clubs in Canada where you can actually make a living wage, for a grand total of 22 players in Canada making that wage or more. Since I don't know what Ottawa and Edmonton pay their players I've excluded them, but I've read the average salary is around $40K, and my personal experience is that living on $40K is doable but not an attractive long term option. (which explains why we see guys like Paul Hamilton and Shaun Saiko who were NASL best XI players in their early 20s retire in their mid 20s)

We need more professional opportunities for local players, which in my opinion means, a domestic league. Not a silver bullet by any means but it can only help.

  5. Apologies if this is elsewhere, I could not find any reference to the player in the MOACA or in any threads, but Cristian Daniel Gutierrez Zuniga (1997, born in Quebec City) has been making regular starts in Chile. Signed through 2019 according to this: https://twitter.com/alejandr0valdes/status/662068809591889920
