Canada vs French Guiana Sunday March 24th 2019 in Vancouver

Flights booked - 20% off Air North sale no less, so return to the Yukon for $360 all in. Woop woop! I'm getting in on Saturday morning and I'm considering the Matt Good show at the Vogue Theatre that night. The venue looks cool but not fun, y'know? Concerts shouldn't have seating : / ...... Anybody feeling up for this? Or has anybody seen a show here before?

When are folks getting into town for this? If y'all are getting in on Friday night then I might catch the evening flip to Vancouver. Otherwise I can just take my time and get in on the Saturday. Also, if anybody else is thinking about splitting a spot to stay then drop me a line. I'm not sure if I want to stay solo or with others - so I could be talked into something if there's a decent plan.

    The Importance of Jr. Hoilett

Hume vs Spain in the U-20s was pretty darn good, too. He hit the post right afterward from distance, too. Youtube Other quality strikes - Sandro Grande vs Spain Youtube - Radzinski's brace (especially the second, a stoppage time winner) in a vintage performance for Everton. Youtube

Boom - ticket ordered. Super excited to be coming down for this as it will be my first Canada match since 2008 (vs Estonia in Tallinn and the Jamaica WCQ in Toronto). Also, the ticket ordering process is super smooth. Well done. It seems way easier than folks mailing cheques to my dorm room in Ottawa prior to the WCQ series vs Belize in Kingston, and then me having to snail mail the tickets out prior to the games.

    We've lost Jarrek! :(

I am absolutely shocked to read of this tonight. I remember back to when I was quite a bit younger - maybe 15 or 16 and heading to Lynx games at Varsity. A few times Jarrek would drive me down to the city to catch the games. I remember he had a black 300 ZX, which 15 year old me thought was hot shit. Part of 33 year old me still feels nostalgic toward it ; ) ......... I also remember the countless hours he put into building and fostering the soccer supporters community within Toronto, and by extension and Canada as a whole. I lost touch with him over the past years, but fleeting views into his life always showed him as a true family man, and generally a guy of top character. Just as I remember him. Bummer. RIP Jarrek. My condolences to his brother Pawel - who was also part of those early days - and to Jarrek's young family.

    General Discussion on CMNT

I have met Morgan before. At the time (2001) he seemed to be in a logistics and organizational position, helping me arrange ticketing and access to meet with the team in Cairo. I don't feel like he is in our "technical director" type role.

You're right. I had to look it up though - totally forgot that the good guys won there last time out!

    Will Johnson

Agreed. There are only a few rules out at the fish camp, but no religion and no politics top the small list. Let Johnson have his day. Then judge him.
  12. bump. last day to bid! somebody top $200 for this bad boy and i'll line the coffers of our web hosting fund
  13. Current high bid of $200. PM or reply below to up the Ante (Jazic).See what I did there?
  14. Jamie - you cool with this? I'm moving back to the Yukon and I have precious little extra space. I also have this really nice custom piece from the 2001 LG Cup in Cairo. I want to auction it off and give the proceeds to the forum to help with operating costs. Lord knows I visit here near daily - 'bout time I actually contributed something back. My late dad and I went over to watch this tournament with Canada, South Korea, Iran and the hosts. After the match against Egypt we bought some snaps off of a matchday photog outside of the stadium. The next day we picked up a ball in a local market and made our way to the Swiss Hotel where the team was staying and got it signed by the entire group. Once back in Canada my old man had this slick plexiglas case done up by his client in the industry. This trip to Egypt was in spring 2001, and later in the year he would be diagnosed with cancer before passing in mid December. I miss him to bits, and as special as this piece is I don't need it to remember him by. Maybe there's a Vee out there who would like this one off collectible - especially with the proceeds going to keep the lights on at this place. Shipping's on me. Let's start at $50? Bidding ends Thursday at midnight - Yukon time. I'll put it in the mail on Friday.

    Cyle Larin

Nah. Folks should simply take responsibility for their own actions. Cyle will have to do that here. One of the reasons I got out of tending bar as a night gig was this very mentality. There was more than one occasion on which I called a cab for somebody only to watch them wander out into the street - seemingly waiting for said cab - and then get in their own car and drive away. I didn't trust the venue's proprietor to carry the correct insurance to protect me while in his employ, so I got the hell out of there before somebody else's life choices negatively influenced my own situation. And that's too bad since bartending was a fun gig at that point in my life. I really do dislike this typically Canadian welfare state mentality though - somebody else is automatically bears responsibility for the actions/outcomes/situation of others. Folks need to step up and use the pronoun "I" for things other than assigning blame. Back on the soccer front - this isn't the best thing for CMNT PR, and just days after Toyota signed on! The Japs must be impressed ; )
