That is solid aswell however assuming everyone is healthy and that Bradley, vazquez giovinco and altidore are locks then three of Delgado, akteke, hasler and Osorio would not start. With the a back four of auro, vdw, mavinga and morrow, we would have two good midfield options and one good but aging centre D in Moor that could be subbed in. Don't get me wrong i wouldn't call your alternative formation above a mistake at all, I just prefer the more mobile and sufficiently experienced back four.

Auro - mavinga - van der wiel - morrow - would be an excellent back four.

    Herdman new head coach

True but this is not the choice at hand. No disrespect to Oz. But his resume was and is nothing to write home about and his results at the helm of Canada really proved nothing. Canada played a more positive brand of football but he did it with something closer to our top players at the time. Overall his results were mixed: wins against minnows French Guiana and Curacao, ties against Costa Rica and Honduras (teams in rebuild mode) a loss to Jamaica 1st team and a home exhibition win vs there second team. Finally a disappointing loss vs. El Salvador. Don't get me wrong, oz needed more time to be properly judged. Best thing about oz tenure is that he got Cavani back and successfully brought Davies into the fold. Likewise, its way to early to judge herdman. Seems as though he has the respect of the players, and has brought in some new guys -in particular millar. Also I'm confident Canada will find a game or two before the nations league starts.
  4. Herdman chose several players who are locks and many others who are not. Some up and comers and other bubble players. He can't always call his top players especially for a "close door" friendly. He needs to rotate in a mix of players during each window save for meaningful matches like qualification matches and major tournaments. He needs an opportunity to build relationships with different players and to evaluate.

He's talented no doubt; but I think at times he holds onto the ball to long.
  6. Good group overall. I hope herdman uses the friendlies and the nations league qualifiers to rotate in many different players with mix of vets and young players so he gets a sense of the quality of his players, the chemistry of different units while also given some young guys experience. Herdman created a culture of pushing in young players in the women's program - something that has continued since his departure as evidenced by the very young squad at the recent concaf u20. Portugal coach, Fernando Santos, did this to great effect both as the Greece and Portugal coach. I also think it's a good sign that a vet like Hutchinson who at his age could retire from the international game, particularly with a new and "unique" coach. Perhaps suggests some buy in based on his discussions with herdman. Last thing I'll say is we should not overeact to the new Zealand result one way or another. The key is what culture does he create over the next 12 to 18 months.

Gignac just scored a beauty for tigres. He is lethal. Other than Valencia, tigres appears to be playing a full first team squad vs. Tijuana.

No but it will be vs. America should we advance.

It's going to be about 12 degrees with the possibility of rain. The high that day is only 17-18 degrees. Weather should not be a factor.

  11. I've been reading on some Canadian soccer forums that the osa is moving to have the opdl and the recently expanded oasl combined into a possible tiered league as early as 2019. Has anyone heard anything about this.
  12. According to Wikipedia's CCL 2018 page there were 2673 spectators.

    General Discussion on CMNT

Assuming that all players eligible (capped or not) make themselves available for Canada, what do people think would be our best 11?

    Will do. Thanks.

    CONCACAF Nations League

I've been following the forums for a few months and have gained a lot of knowledge about the cdn soccer scene. Perhaps this thread exists elsewhere but assuming every cdn male eligible (capped already or not) made themselves available what would be Canada's best starting 11?
