  1. Italy should just hire Commonwealth Stadium security.......
  2. Based on 1) my experience at the pre-B course 2) the assessment format and 3) the fact he was a member of the 4person assessment team, i just did. And I did send a letter to Neil Turnbull in June (if I recall correctly) to outline the concerns I had. Both his (and any other coaches') links to specific soccer training programs as well as the ASA's push of the Mentorship program would have been appreciated bits of info to the coaches before we all decided to spend Mother's Day weekend in Red Deer, pay for the course, hotel, etc when all of us could've just paid our tribute to the ASAand it's employment justification program. It would've been cheaper and more convenient. And jpg75, I will try the provincial route again, but both the USSF programs as well as a South American or Mexican program are all viable options
  3. I took the Alberta pre-B Assessment this spring (pictures on the ASA's facebook site) and Peter Malakoane was one of the 4 assessors. On the Sunday when the assessment was done - they split the 21 coaches into 2 groups with me being put in Peter's group. Going into it we knew that on previous pre-B Assessments, only 2 of 19 coaches had gotten a sufficiently high grade to be able to enroll in the B course. Once the Assessments started, you could kind of tell why the passing average was that low with some coaches definitely not being up to par. But....most of the coaches had a good idea and within our subgroup there were at least 4 coaches (myself included) that ran their session on topic in an organized manner and with appropriate breaks to explain the progression of drills. We were definitely miles ahead of some of the other coaches. But at the end of the day when everyone gathered together, David McCarthy and the rest of the Assessors gave us all a dressing down. It was as if all of us had no clue or concept of the game. This is when my red flags finally went up (as I thought all weekend that I had a legit chance at passing the Assessment). - The ASA has been strongly encouraging the Mentorship program where aspiring coaches work with an assigned ASA staff coach in preparation for the Assessment. This was a running theme throughout the weekend. - I was particularly frustrated in that the topic I received (receiving the ball with the chest as a technical session) was fairly simple to put together given that the ASA's own website features the same topic and gives line drills. So for my coaching plan, I incorporated a warm-up, a few drills progressing in difficulty leading to the final which I could make a competition of between the players. Except that in having Peter take a look at my plan in our 'Assessor/coach' meeting time - he was adamant I have no line drills whatsoever. Regardless of progression. I was pissed off as I now had to redo the entire plan the night before the Assessment rather than relax and have a few bevvies. - During the Assessment itself, there were no breaks given for the coaches during the Assessment other than sitting out the previous session - a coach that went 5th in the group, sat out the 4th session so they could prepare theirs, would coach their session and would then play the remainder of the sessions. I went middle of the pack which was good, but the first coach, coached his session and then played in the remainder of the sessions. No coach worth his salt would put his/her team through something like this. Grabbing a quick drink while moving from one 20 minute session to another might be fine if you only have a handful of sessions but not for 11 sessions. I was still shocked though when I received my Assessment in the mail with the only progression available to me being enrolling in the Mentorship program. I'm not even good enough to apply to the pre-B Assessment. So I touched base with what I thought was the strongest coach in our group and he received the same assessment. And speaking later with one more coach who was in the other group - again the same assessment. I am planning on enrolling in the Mentorship program during the Indoor season as I do want to work towards the B license, but of the competent coaches I spoke with, that I wouldn't hesitate to bring on my team, the whole experience left a bitter taste in our mouths. I've been reluctant to criticize the program as I obviously have a very subjective opinion, but finding the info on one of my Assessors....

  10. We'd be better off granting independence to each of the territories and then creating a new confederation - Arctica. Greenland and Iceland can join too, although Iceland would give us trouble.
  11. And another... Dear Bruno Mastroprimiano and Tom and Dave Fath, How could you justify the outrageous ticket prices for the Exhibition match between Everton and River Plate? Do you realize that you priced out thousands from attending this game? Yes, I understand that you need to recoup your money, but you also need to make if affordable to do so. I purchased the second lowest priced tickets, and each of those tickets cost $70.25 (when you also take into account Ticketmaster's ridiculous "convenience charge", but that's another issue). You need to realize that you can double your attendance by lowering the ticket prices by 30-40% AND make more profit, and created a greater atmosphere at the game The ticket prices left only the "die-hard" fans with any desire to attend. I wanted to take 4 of my nieces and nephews to the game (and I take them to many events), but their parents could not justify the price; so you lost 4 fans and revenue as such (if tickets had been ~$30, you would have had $150, instead, you got $70 (less whatever you had to pay Ticketmaster) for my single ticket. Your comparison to the Oilers cannot be substantiated. Yes, ticket prices are high for the Oilers but the building only holds 17, 000. You had a facility that could hold 60,000 spectators so you had a LOT of room to play with. You must realize that you're not going to sellout Commonwealth for a soccer match unless it's for a national team of very high pedigree (Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Spain, etc.). Brazil was special. It was always going to be special because of who they are, what they represent to the football world, and the timing of the game (one week prior to the World Cup, final tune up, and the opportunity to show us the magic that was Brazilian football). Everton vs. River Plate was never going to do that. I believe you did an adequate job of advertising but you could have done more. Did you go to the EDSA and EMSA to encourage team ticket packages? I saw very few youngsters in the crowd. One thing you should do immediately is ask for a refund from Everton FC. They were absolutely disgraceful and it was extremely obvious that this was a money grab on their part. I hope that you will try again next year to bring in some top quality teams. With the right promotion and the right ticket prices I'm confident that you will be successful. I just hope you haven't done irreparable harm. Thanks.
  12. A lot of negative reactions from people I know that went. Here's an email sent to Terry Jones at the Edmonton Sun from a friend of a friend.... Dear Everton FC, You should be ashamed to call yourself a class organization after failing to provide any sort of opposition or entertainment against River Plate. Your decision to fly to the match on the same day and not field any of your so- called "stars" reeks of a money grab. It was obvious from the kickoff that you had no interest in being there, and your tactics were disgraceful. I've never seen so many back-passes to a goalkeeper; every time the ball was turned over to you (not by any aggressive tackling on your part but by missed passes by River) instead of turning the play up field you were content to maneuver the ball back your goalkeeper (what's his name, because it wasn't Tim Howard). I was really hoping to see an excellent match but you turned this into a farce. I would think that after River scored there would be someone on your team to rally the troops; what I saw was no emotion, no anger, and no motivation. After that I was hoping that River would have pumped in another 6 goals just to see your reaction. Being unfamiliar with many of your players, I wasn't sure who on the pitch was fighting for a first team selection; it didn't matter, because the instructions from your manager were clear: Let's just get out of here boys! Putting Neville in for the final 20 minutes was useless, by that time you had already shamed yourselves and the Everton fans who came out to watch their beloved team; they were embarrassed and embarrassed for you. I hope you are proud of yourselves. You missed a great opportunity to earn the respect of the neutrals in attendance, myself included. I used to have sympathy for you, playing second fiddle to your city rivals, but no more. Why does Manchester United have so many fans around the world? Because when they travel to another part of the world they take time to meet the fans, and many of their best players take part in the matches; they go out to sell their brand of football. You obviously don't. Your management should do the right thing: return your (non) appearance fee and issue a public apology to the fans and organizers (who aren't without some blame also). After that, I may be able to feel good about your club again.
  13. Goin out on a limb boys... Just got back from the pub, read the thread and need to say that Stalteri was at fault for the penalty. From the one angle, he is holding on to the Honduran's arm as he goes up for the bycicle. Seemingly pulling him. The ball then hits his chest and goes up. IF the ref wanted to great us, he would have called Stalteri on the 2nd minute incident. Thought the Ref did good today. It was our lack of finishing that did us in, not the ref or CONCACAF.
  14. And I'm going with a 3-0 win for Canada. Gerba, Klukowski and Simpson.
  15. Hopefully the Philly fans will confuse him with Santa Claus and throw **** at him...
