  5. Jeremy Loome: "It's a tribute of sorts to the faith TFC fans are showing in head coach Preki that reports suggesting Sam Cronin has been traded aren't causing a bigger fuss." http://www.rednationonline.ca/Sayonara_Sammy_We_Hardly_Knew_Ye_june_15_10_column.shtml
  6. With Major League Soccer suspending league play for two weeks due to the World Cup, several clubs are fortunate enough to use the timing of the tournament to bring in players on trial for when play resumes the weekend of June 26. Toronto FC are one such team where over the last week it has been confirmed that Scarborough developed Andrew Ornoch is currently on trial with the club. Ornoch has not been a name that is often thrown around when TFC supporters put down their wish list of Canadians they should be looking to sign. However, there are several factors indicating should his trial go well, not only would he fit in with the side, but he could become an essential member of the squad. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Trialist_Ornoch_Fits_The_Profile_june_13_10_article.shtml
  7. Here are some views on this topic from certain figures within the world of Canadian Soccer: http://www.rednationonline.ca/US_World_Cup_Success_Would_Be_A_Plus_For_Canadian_Soccer_june_10_10_article.shtml

Fascinating stuff. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Rednation_Speaks_with_Declan_Hill_june_10_10_feature.shtml

  11. With the Men’s Canadian National Team currently in South America preparing for their next friendly match against Venezuela, Head Coach Stephen Hart has had to contend with training and playing without several of the team's key players. It's hard to speculate about the effect the presence of experienced veterans like Julian De Guzman, Atiba Hutchinson and Kevin McKenna might have had in Canada's recent 5-0 loss to Argentina in Buenos Aires, but it is safe to assume that Hart would have preferred to have them on the pitch. Another recent mainstay that the Canadian skipper had to play without was Dejan Jakovic of D.C. United, who is currently injured with a fractured clavicle. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Jakovic_Abscence_Felt_By_Club_and_Country_may_28_10_article.shtml
  12. Straith did impress me. Seeing how fast Argentina was compared to our backline was...well...umm...scary too?
  13. Yeah...Argentina seemed to be coasting...scarily enough.
  14. Jeremy Loome discussing the results in NY and LA over Juventus and Boca - and how MLS can capture some of the European supporters who have been reluctant to support their local team. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Tapping_Into_the_Passion_may_25_10_column.shtml

  16. Morning! Here's the info relayed from Gavin: Everyone seemed healthy enough in training. About the only serious injury was to physiotherapist Garrett Kusch who's got crutches and an aircast from a fractured tibia. In terms of lineup, it looks like it could be a 4-5-1. It seemed that Stalteri, Haineault, Klukowski and Hastings made up the back 4 with DeRo, Ledgerwood, Imhoff, Johnson and Simpson across the midfield and one of Friend or Jackson up front but they weren't working too much on shape and made changes quickly. Onstad was in goal but again...that could change. No, none of the Venezuela guys were there. With de Guzman out, there are only 17 guys in camp. It's fortunate there were no more injuries! No info on Edgar...I'll check and see what I can find today. We also find out today who the opponent for the BMO Field friendly is. So that will complete the national team calendar for the year.
  17. Josh Simpson and Nik Ledgerwood are posted now. Nolando, I've put your questions through to Gavin...hopefully I'll hear from him tonight. I'll stay up as long as I can, and if he responds, I'll post it here for you.
  18. Jaime Peters and Adam Straith are up now. Also...our man in Argentina is reporting: "Looks like Canada will try a 4-5-1 against Argentina. Argentina reportedly will have 3 up front...including Messi and Tevez."
  19. Paul Stalteri is up now (more tomorrow...connection speeds in Argentina are painfully slow): http://www.rednationonline.ca/Canada_Argentina_Mens_National_Team_Video_Interviews_may_21_10_feature.shtml
