  4. Hi all. Via a media conference call today, CMNT Head Coach Stephen Hart spoke candidly about a number of topics related to the match against Greece and the National Team in general: On the fact that he will only will have the players in for only one training session and the match while in Greece: I think the way I am looking at it is that it is an international game against a very tough team who will be playing at home. So you hope that the players get some experience out of the game, playing against players of a different sort of quality. These short exhibition dates are always difficult for Canadian teams. In the end, it is important to play the games and what you get out of it in terms of experience and competition is invaluable. On players not being available for the Greece match: There were a couple of players whose schedules really didn't fit in. They were playing late on Sunday or had games on Monday. We just had to deal with that the best we could and we got most of the players that we wanted in. And, outside of injuries, I'm comfortable with the squad. On the challenges the team will face playing against Greece: Greece is not an opponent we will be playing on a regular basis. What we do when we go into these types of games is that we have been telling the players that it is more important to do the things that we do as a team and that we do well as a team. Of course, you go into the game to play to win and get a result, but it's more important how we play, how we approach the game, how we manage the game and that those sorts of building blocks are the most important things for us. On Blackburn Rovers forward Junior Hoilett: I did (reach out to him for this game) but it is the same story. He just says please give him some time. It's the same situation. I have been after him for every outing that we have had and that is no secret. I think he would acknowledge that as well. I'll keep knocking on the door. I can't answer that (whether he will join the team at some point). That decision is entirely up to him. I have extended my hand and he knows exactly how we feel about having him onboard. On the fact that other CONCACAF rivals have been playing a lot of recent matches: It's what our situation is. We are trying to play as many games as possible. We don't have the luxury of the Caribbean Cup or a Latin American tournament like they just completed. The only situation available to us is the Gold Cup and then outside of that we have been trying to play on all of the International dates where possible. They have the luxury of those extra tournaments and it helps with their rankings and their team building. But when you go to coach Canada you know that is the sort of situation you are going to be in. On the few MLS Players being selected for this match and the fact that MLS players are in preseason meant he tried to select as few as possible: Yes, of course. I spoke to some of the players and told them that it was most likely that they wouldn't be invited in and they understood the situation. I did have to call in a few MLS players based on positional needs. I would much prefer that they get into their preseason and get themselves into match shape. But they answered the call and that's most important thing. On Paul Stalteri: I did speak with Paul at length about his situation and what he is trying to do. In the discussion, I told him that I wouldn't be bringing him in for this game and he understands the situation completely. He has not been playing and he's trying to rectify his situation. Once he gets playing again we will keep an on eye on him to see how he is progressing. On his starting eleven for Greece: I have an idea what the starting eleven will be but we still have games that will be played today and on the weekend. And I don't know who will end up calling us - like what just happened with Kevin McKenna (who had to pull out of the Greece match at the last minute due to injury). On Ali Gerba: I spoke to Ali a while back and did speak to his club. As I said, my intention was to not bring in players from MLS or NASL or USL. I'm usually in good communication with Ali and his preseason will start soon and I'll get a chance to see him. On the absence of Mike Klukowski: It's probably best that you speak with Mike. He has some personal issues and it doesn't really allow him to travel very far from home for any length of time. We have spoken at length and hopefully he will be okay and that situation will be resolved soon. On selecting Simeon Jackson for the Greece match and not selecting Iain Hume: As you know, Simeon has been filling in on the right side with the National Team. Iain's primary playing position is up front just behind the striker and we felt that we needed somebody in the wide right position. It's as simple as that. 5. Ok...We caught up with Chris (I know I was asked to place these interviews in a main thread folder, but it's relevant to this particular thread because of the question(s) pertaining to him - hope it's ok): In this interview, Red Nation and Chris discuss playing in the Norwegian top flight with his current side FK Haugesund, his past experiences playing with Toronto FC, the pros and cons of being able to play multiple positions at the professional level, his thoughts on the Vancouver Whitecaps move to Major League Soccer and playing for the Men’s Canadian National Team. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Rednation_Speaks_with_Chris_Pozniak_january_16_11_feature.shtml
  6. Adding to Max's article...Looking Forward to 2011: Looking through the current squad one can see where strengths lie and where question marks continue to plague the national team. Four areas in particular have question marks around them that desperately need someone to step up and take a hold of. Stephen Hart has laid down one of his top qualifiers for positions are players who are getting minutes, and outside of the spots that look to be locked down, there is much debate as to who is doing enough to get the nod for the starting XI. Listed in the article, are the positions and respective players for Canada and Stephen Hart will have a tough time making the decision to whom they will commit to through the summer of 2011. Happy New Year's to all as well! Be safe. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Looking_forward_to_2011_CMNT_december_31_10_article.shtml

  11. With the 2010 MLS Cup only two days away, many of the leading soccer media in North America descended upon BMO Field to watch the two finalists practice and to speak with the coaches and players in advance of the finale on Sunday. Those that attended the FC Dallas morning practice likely got their first chance to watch the Ottawa-born rookie centre back on the pitch. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Canadian_Rookie_Edward_Learning_From_MLS_Playoffs_Experience_november_19_10_article.shtml
  12. It's No Surprise That The MLS Final Will Be A Designated Player-Free Affair When FC Dallas obliterated the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Western Conference Finals this past Sunday, they didn’t just prevent two of the league’s marquee stars in Landon Donovan and David Beckham from once again realizing their championship ambitions, they also ensured that for the second consecutive year the MLS Cup will be won by a club without a Designated Player (DP). http://www.rednationonline.ca/The_Price_of_an_MLS_Cup_november_16_10_article.shtml
  13. Vancouver-born footballer returns home with National Team in sights. An interview with Terry, along with thoughts from Stephen Hart and Paul James. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Terry_Dunfield_nov_15_10_feature.shtml
  14. “We did a lot of experimenting, as you know, and I think a lot of that had to do with how we would like to play. We are also trying to establish playing in a couple of different ways, so that we can adapt our position or just show people a different look at times. And, of course, a lot of it was looking for players in certain positions. I still think that key positions are up for grabs and the players need to understand that. But overall I’m satisfied,” says Hart. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Hart_Looking_Forward_to_2011_Following_a_Productive_2010_november_15_10_article.shtml
  15. Red Nation and Jason discuss the TFC Academy, recent Academy graduates Nicholas Lindsay and Doneil Henry, the importance of the return the MLS Reserve League, the hiring of German legend Jurgen Klinsmann as a consultant to Toronto FC and Jason's career as a player with the Colorado Rapids, Plymouth Argyle and the Men's Canadian National Team. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Jason_Bent_nov_6_10_feature.shtml
  16. If there was one area that represented a true Achilles heel for Toronto FC in 2010 it would have to be the fullback position. While TFC were exceptionally strong between the sticks and possessed three quality centre backs in Adrian Cann, Nana Attakora and Ty Harden, only Dan Gargan really delivered consistently satisfactory performances as a fullback. Nick Garcia provided experience and held his own in quite a few games, but generally his lack of pace and athleticism was something that opposing offences were able to exploit over and over again. Maxim Usanov and Raivis Hscanovics were consistently ineffectual to say the least. ...a regular back four of Sidra, Attakora, Cann and Gargan would be a huge improvement over the quartets that TFC regularly fielded in 2009. http://www.rednationonline.ca/Sidra_Could_Be_The_Answer_october_26_10_news.shtml
  17. Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber was in Toronto on Tuesday morning and met with the Toronto media to discuss the upcoming MLS Cup Final that will be held at BMO Field on November 21st. With the recent protests by TFC supporters serving as a backdrop to the discussion, Garber had several messages for the fans that he said have “made the MLS what it is today.” “I have absolutely no doubt that we (as a league) would not be in the position we are – which is a respected, credible, growing professional sports league in the world – without the success of TFC,” said Garber. http://www.rednationonline.ca/MLS_Cup_Final_a_Thank_You_to_Toronto_Fans_october_19_10_news.shtml
  18. On a day in which supporter unrest collided with yet another draw at home, the former Toronto FC Academy forward gave fans some hope for the future and delivered a performance that impressed both his coach and his teammates. Jacob Peterson, who scored the Reds second goal from a cross delivered by Lindsay, believes that the new Toronto winger has everything required to succeed at the MLS level. We spoke to Lindsay after the Columbus match: http://www.rednationonline.ca/Lindsay_Primed_For_MLS_Success_october_17_10_news.shtml
