  1. Are these still available for purchase - the link doesn't seem to work for me? I ordered some but have some friends who are interested in buying some tickets (and taking the bus down from Kitchener)
  2. This "10,000 hour rule" is grossly misused. The original rule is from a motor learning perspective, so deliberate repetitive practice counts towards these hours. (IE working on crosses, certain plays repeatedly). The mini-soccer for 4 and 5 year olds where they're in a cluster kicking each others shins would hardly count towards this. Putting an 8 or 9 year old through 10-15 hours of training 52 weeks a year is a sure way to see them drop out and hate soccer. I'm looking at research by Dr. Jean Côté right now and as it shows in the literature, early specialization leads to burn out....and eventually drop out. Most hockey players don't really switch to a really competitive league such as a AAA team until they're around 13 anyways. Where we're lacking the deliberate practice hours is when the kids turn 14-17 in Canada. There is largely nowhere for these kids to progress after age 18 so they likely either A) Quit Continue Recreational play or (in the case of many of our MNT players I'm guessing) find the little avenue they have to progress. A top tier just under MLS would help us tremendously, as I said before it would be interesting to see what this report says about the sustainability of such a league.
  3. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet or not but up until approximately age 13, young athletes should be participating in numerous sports. Early specialization before age 17 can lead to over-use injuries and burnout. Sport specialization should not occur until at least age 13 (players should be playing multiple positions up until this point), and investment into certain positions shortly after this age. At the provincial and municipal level, all coaches should have to take a mandatory standardized coaching course (Be it through the NCCP or through a newly developed national course). Emphasis on skill development and character building has to become a priority. Too often kids are dropping out because their coach has a "win at all costs" attitude. The development of a domestic league would help too, it will be interesting to see what the report from Montagliani shows us.
  4. That's not the start we were looking for.....I play across the back line if needed
  5. Well...As we were singing in 08, there's only one De Guzman! I still find it hard to believe that there's not one kid out there somewhere in Canada that could score consistently for our national team. I'm at a loss for words...
  6. Couldn't agree more Sam! Really wish the press had more sense than to post some of the reports today. Either way, these players have gotten us this far and I know they have what it takes to finish the job. Allez les rouges!
  7. Greyson, it was you and your buddy who were waiting for the Maro to start serving beer early in the day, I like your style! All the people who travel to Toronto for games are remarkably dedicated, keep up the good work! I feel bad I only had a 90km drive haha. See you all in the fall!
  8. I might be wrong on this one but...Was it the Peru pre-match game last Sept that the Maro was serving $12 pitchers on the side bar (closest to the steps going towards the bathrooms). Any chance of getting both bars going (with temporary taps)
  9. I'd imagine there would be more than 15,000 at the Honduras game on Tuesday. Ideally I would have the stadium like we had it vs Jamaica for our WCQ last cycle. And nothing like Montreal 4 years ago, what a horrible night that was and a cold drive home. It was nice to see lots of red shirts in the stands, youth soccer clubs have really impressed me with their buying of tickets the past few matches.
  10. Ive tried with firefox and internet explorer, I keep getting "Your order cannot be processed, your credit card has not been charged"
  11. Anyone else having problems ordering through paypal? I think Ill give it a rest and try again tomorrow.
  12. I don't think we can be entirely too negative about the result. More or less it's the same Canada. We can have large spells of possession but not really work the ball into the box or shoot. Bring back Atiba, Kluk and Johnson and we could've seen some goals. 12,000 Canadian supporters for a Tuesday isn't a bad turn out, don't like the booing that went on at the end of the game in 113. I'm sure a lot of us weren't happy with the result but booing our team isn't the answer.
  13. It would be nice to see Hume come off the bench as a sub next friday. It's been a while since we've last seen him in a Canada shirt
  14. I fully agree. If traitor begovic managed to get an adidas ad for the U20 world cup before he even played any games for pompey, Hoillet should be given at minimum something like that. Hoillet has the potential to have a much larger name than bego anyways, keeper's are never recognized as much as goal-scoring wingers/strikers
  15. You're telling me, I have such bad memories of the honduras match in Montreal I started a "can you hear Honduras sing" chant tonight, not even close with Ecuador. Not a bad result in the end though
