  2. Whatever the case, Jules gets my vote. Hope all the Voyageurs rally behind him...
  3. Tam's team AEK drew 1-1 away, but Tam came in for some Praise. Here are some parts of the article The move did little to alter the complexion of an increasingly dull affair, though the sheer energy of midfielder Tamandani Nsaliwa gave the Athenians two half-chances before the break. The first arrived through an Angelos Basinas corner on 41 minutes, after some good work by Nsaliwa on the right touch-line. Former Panionios star Djebbour managed to get his head to the ball from around the centre of the penalty area but saw his effort saved low to the right of Levadiakos ‘keeper Srdan Blazic before Nsaliwa then stung the palms Montenegro shot-stopper with a rasping drive from outside the box on the stroke of half-time. Second Half The Canada international was at the heart of the action immediately at the start of the second half, meeting Panagiotis Lagos’ cross from the left-hand side with a header back across Blazic that hit the upright. The whole article is at the following http://www.goal.com:80/en/news/117/greece/2008/11/30/989574/aek-pay-the-penalty-against-stubborn-levadiakos
  4. Julian came on as a late sub in Depor's 0-1 victory away at Almeria. He played the last 15 minutes. He should play again in mid week as Depor will be playing a UEFA cup match in Poland. I am sure he's glad to be back on the pitch after a bit of bad luck with injuries. Give him a few matches and he should be back in top form. Depor now sit at 7th on 21 points, same as Atletico Madrid, but Atletico has a better goal difference. Anyway, at this stage of the season, Depor are much better this year than they were last year.
  5. Unfortunately Julian hasn't recovered in time for the Depor-Feyenord match. The following players are in the line up. It seems that Jonathan won't be playing either as he also recovering from injury. A shame as it would have been great to witness 2 Canadian brothers play agaisnt each other in a European competition. Porteros: Aranzubía y Fabricio. Defensas: Laure, Filipe, Lopo, Manuel Pablo, Adrián López, Ze Castro y Colotto. Centrocampistas: Antonio Tomás, Cristian, Guardado, Juan Rodríguez, Lafita, Sergio, Valerón y Verdú. Delanteros: Mista y Omar Bravo. He is most likely to be back in action during this weekend's Liga match away at Almeria.
  6. Real Madrid were lucky to beat Recre just 1-0 at home. Recre are currently the last place team with just 7 points after 12 matches. As for Barca, their free scoring streak appears to be over for now. Last nite all they could manage was a home 1-1 draw against 14th place Getafe. The 2 previous matches were a 2-0 win at Recre and a 1-0 win vs third div team Benidorm in the King's Cup. In any case both leagues have their merits, but overall I still think it's tougher to predict who will win matches in La Liga.
  7. Julian will most likely miss the Feyenoord match. I think next weekend's Liga match might be his return. It would have been interesting to see the De Guzman boys go at it. I am not sure about this, but almost certain that it would have been the first time 2 Canadian brothers face off in Europe. At least UEFA cup anyway.
  8. What are you basing that claim on? I gotta disagree with U there. I think the difference is lesser in La Liga. Almost any team is capable of beating the others and also getting beat. Some examples being, unbeatable Barca's(1st place) only loss has been to Numancia, who now sit in 17th place. Barca also drew 1-1 with Racing, who are 14th. Liga new boys Sporting Gijon(10th) and Valladolid(7th) have done quite well for themselves. Vallodid lost 6-0 to Barca, but then they beat Real Madrid 1-0, Sevilla 3-2(5th), and last nite they beat Villareal 3-0(3rd). Sporting Gijon also have been climbing steadily after huge back to back early losses of 6-1 and 7-1 to Barca and Madrid respectively. But, they also managed to beat Valencia 3-2 last weekend. They also went to Depor(7th place) a few weeks ago and beat em 3-0 convincingly. The biggest surprises of the season though have been the Copa Del Rey results. Villareal was eliminated over two legs by a third division team on an aggregate score of 6-1 or something like that. Madrid was also eliminated by a third div team losing on away goals. There are three little groups in la Liga. The top five teams are separated by just 3 points. Most of the league is in the next cluster with again just a few points separating seventh from fourteenth, then the relegation candidates are also very tight separated by just a few points.
  9. I assume when you say they are the only Galicican team you are referring just to the first division. Their bitter rivals Celta de Vigo were up there with them a few years ago, but are now in the second division. In segunda B((third div) there are a few more Galician teams, including Fabril(Depor . Anyway, looking at the Depor Fan forums, most fans are with Julian and hope that he will re-new. The fact he has frequently said in interviews that he intends to stay plays very well with them. By the way,I checked and his current contract ends in June 2009.
  10. Cheers for the find Jeffrey. We stand corrected. I wonder how much the loss of a sponsor may have affected the situation. Also the fact that Depor has become such a selling team must indicate something.
  11. Well, am not sure there budget is as high as you suggest. Last seasons bright spots apart from Julian were Xisco, Wilhelmsson and Lafita. Xisco came up through the team's youth system and after an impressive season(9 or 10 liga goals about), he was duly sold to Newcastle. Wilhelmsson did very well on loan at Depor, but he wasn't signed permanently and now is in Saudi Arabia. Lafita, on loan from Zaragoza last season was signed permanently. Last season Depor continued with their selling, following the sale of world class defender Andrade, they also sold another world class defender in Coloccini. This season the best signing has been keeper Aranzubia. Mexican striker OMar Bravo not quite firing them in yet, and another signing(free transfer??) Mista isn't exactly in his prime. Anyway, am not quite sure how much the new guys were signed for, but am sure they weren't HUGE fees. Another HUGE problem is that Depor have no sponsor at the moment. You may have noticed that Fadesa is no longer on their jerseys. All that considered, Seventh place in the best league in the world(in my opinion) is pretty good. As for his goal scoring, Julian isn't afforded many chances to get forward. I never really hear many mention much about Makelele's and Mauro Silva's goal scoring expoits either. Of course they are much more accomplished players, but point is that Julian's role at Depor is similar to theirs. He has done a great job filling the shoes of Mauro Silva.
  12. AS the article says, he hopes to stay in Spain. In other articles he has often said that he loves the city of A Coruna. If they can solve the problem, I think he'll stay at Depor. If not probably to another Liga Club as he loves both the futbol and the lifestyle in Spain. The smart money says that he will stay in Spain, whether at Depor or a new club.
  13. Mu guess is that he stays at Depor where he is valued by the team and loved by the fans. In fact, if Sergio leaves, Jules could even potentially be made Depor Captain, or one of the Co-Captains. I think only a handful of players have been at the Club longer than him. Off the top of my head Sergio, Valeron, Manuel Pablo. I think the three of them share Captain and Co-Captain duties.
  14. Julian's Medical Report Julian de Guzman just had an ultrasound scan in the USP Santa Teresa hospital in La Coruña this afternoon. RC Deportivo's Medical Services detected a microrupture on the left leg's femoral biceps. Julian will begin now medical and physiotherapy treatments. The estimated recovering time is about three weeks, depending on the player's progress. Julian de Guzman got injured last Sunday, in the 8th minute of the Real Betis vs Betis league game. 15. Thanks... I also just came across Julian's comment on the match up, here is the quote and my ruff translation Por último Julian De Guzmán no ocultó su satisfacción con el grupo. “Tenemos muchas posibilidades para clasificarnos. Hablé con mi hermano de que sería muy bonito para nosotros poder jugar en el mismo campo. Prefiero jugar contra él en Riazor. Espero que él también pueda clasificarse para la siguiente ronda”, indicó. Y elogió a su hermano, Jonathan De Guzmán. “Él es muy fuerte y puede marcar goles. Yo soy su profesor y él es mi alumno. Tiene un gran futuro” finalizó. Julian didn't hide is satisfacion with the group. We have a great chance to get out of the group. I spoke to my brother and it will be great to be able to play on the same field. I prefer to play against him at Riazor(Depor's home). Julian added that he hopes Jono's team also qualifies for the next stage. He complemented his brother saying that "He is very strong and can score goals. Am his teacher and he is my student. He has a great future" For the full article in Spanish go to http://www.riazor.org/lotina-debemos-estar-contentos-con-el-grupo-que-nos-ha-tocado/
