Let's all agree that MAK has become one of the best central midfielders Canada currently has or dare I even the MLS for that matter. It really goes to show how far hes come to break through at one of the best MLS teams and based in the US. Aside from orlando, we don't have any players playing meaningful minutes in the MLS outside of Canada currently.
His emergence is going to make it difficult for both Will Johnson & Teibert to crack Canada's team. Unfortunately for them, the position is just too deep. In the short term MAK at outside back might help their case.
Top MLS Canadian Central Midfielders
MAK - Can play defensive mid and box to box midfield role. Has shown he is a valuable player going forward but can also play defense.
Osorio - Can play a central midfield role and has creativity going forward. Can also play out wide as he has this year for TFC.
Piette - Pitbull at defensive midfield. Plays that role perfectly.
Top Canadian Central Midfielders Abroad
Hutchinson - Solid defensive/central midfielder who has proven that he can also attack and score goals and provide assists. Can also play defense.
Arfield - Excellent box to box midfielder and provides a lot going forward as well as toughness.
Eustaquio - Very skilled defensive midfielder with great vision and distribution. Very similar to a Busquets or player along those lines.
David - Arguably our most lethal attacking midfield option with the ability to also play out wide.
I have just listed 7 very good central midfielders that all offer something different and for the most part are very versatile. That list also does not include Hoilett who could slide into the central midfield as well if needed.
In my opinion, Johnson, Chapman, Teibert etc. are all going to have difficulty breaking the first squad in the coming years. They may make the odd 23 man roster but should definitely be included in friendlies if they continue to play regularly.
Its all perspective, of course things could change.

Corazon reacted to 1996 in 2019 CONCACAF U17 Championship
What I find strange about these kind of results and I’ve seen this in the past too, so an under 17 TFC Academy beats an U17 team like a Penerol. However, then a good portion of these same players go play on the U17 Canadian national team and have trouble beating Caribbean minnow Island teams or even an El Salvador or a Guatemala and crash out of the U17 World Cup Qualifying. You would think a Peñarol U17 team from Uruguay a country that produces players like Canada produces hockey players is much much better than most of these CONCACAF countries that Canada faces in these youth World Cup qualifying tournaments.
-
Corazon got a reaction from Blackjack15 in 2019 CONCACAF U17 Championship
I also want to point out that there is complete bias as to the youth players that play for MLS clubs and that these are not even necessarily the best players in their respective cities. There are numerous youth soccer players sprinkled throughout these cities that are not playing for the MLS club. Lets face it, these MLS clubs have specific feeder clubs and there are still "politics" on who is invited to play for these clubs. Althoug, I want to be clear that these kids on MLS clubs are still very talented.

Corazon reacted to Gian-Luca in Richmond "Richie" Laryea
I suspect Laryea didn't play against Seattle because being on the road against a team with arguably the best left back in the league (and one of the quickest), it may have been a tall order to expect a guy who has only played one pro game at right back in his life to be able to shut down the attack from that wing (ie. not the best game to start blooding in a player at a new position). Hence Vanney went with the 3-5-2, although he abandoned that at at half time when he saw that his nephew's timing was off the whole of the first half. If Auro is still not back next week when TFC are at home we might see Laryea start again.
While people are trashing Ciman in this thread (and understandably so in some cases), Mavinga and Moor have also had mistakes leading to multiple goals against so far this year. Moor at least hasn't had a problem reading the play or diving in to make challenges he can't win. Mavinga was one of two players out to lunch on (what turned out to be) the winning goal by Seattle yesterday (the other was Bradley who didn't track Roldan's run, but Mavinga didn't move to cover the space either - you'd like to think Moor would have read the play). It's a concern overall for TFC, who despite having played 2 fewer games than most other teams in the East have scored the most goals, but continue to leak in too many to have any championship aspirations. Laryea can hopefully help out in this regard if he can learn quickly, but I think right back right now and left back are not the concerns - it's in the middle (and in goal if Bono doesn't stop making bonehead gaffes per game - he might have saved the 3rd goal mind you as he is a good shot stopper).

Corazon got a reaction from apbsmith in Canadians abroad: April 12-18, 2019
Atiba man of the match again. If he does take another year at Besiktas which I am sure he will be offered than I hope he continues for Canada as well. Fenerbahce have been mediocre at best this year but if they can steal some points from Galatasaray tomorrow than Besiktas have a shot at catching 2nd for Champions League next year. Nearly impossible to catch baseksehir even after this win.
Very surprised but very happy Larin got into the game especially considering the circumstances of the game but perhaps he had a strong week in training.
Disappointing for Cardiff as this was one of their games to steal points from. Junior has a great reputation at Cardiff and he enjoys his time there. In my opinion he may play again with the in the Championship again next year (assuming relegated). Does not change his role in our NT squad in my opinion.
Disappointed and a little concerned that we haven't seen Godinho in a month although ZBG did not play again today unfortunately. It will be interesting to see which player plays more in the final weeks.
Cristian Gutierrez starting again for Colo Colo is massive. Only problem is that if you are a starter for a club of that stature, you can bet the Chile National team is keeping their eyes on him. In my opinion if he was to be capped by Chile he would end up like Bunbury did so hopefully he considers that.

Didn't see the pitch today but still somehow comes out looking better. Zavaleta non-existent. Ciman was Ciman.

Corazon got a reaction from Club Linesman in Doneil Henry
Unfortunate penalty call if you ask me. Regardless his play has been very good this year and hes our current top center back with James.
I think that Henry has his unreasonable critics such as Osorio. Maybe people hold onto historical errors or previous years of play but both those players have been fairly consistent in recent years.

Godinho definitely needs more minutes to overtake ZBG in my opinion. Regardless of how little ZBG has played, he has done a good job for Canada in Nationas League. If Godinho could secure a starting role than its a possibility.
I am in agreement that the 23 man roster should be based on players in form and regularity but lets be honest. Everyone saying that is kidding themselves. If Davies does not play another game for Bayern do we leave Davies off? If Hoilett only plays a couple premier league games for the rest of the year. Do we leave him off? If Jonathan David gets injured and returns just in time for Gold Cup. Do we leave him off? The answer for all these are no. We are not at the level that we can be leaving these players off. I would take a bench player for Besiktas in Larin over players like Simeon Jackson or Ricketts as well.
There are exceptions. The amount of exceptions should be minimal though.

Corazon reacted to El Diego in Gold Cup 2019
I am having difficulty picking a 23 man squad for Canada, but for the first time this difficulty is from figuring out who to leave at home rather than who to bring. My personal picks if I had to choose today:
Goalkeepers (3)
Milan Borjan, Maxime Crepeau, Dayne St. Clair
Defenders (7)
Sam Adekugbe, Zachary Brault-Guillard, Derek Cornelius, Marcus Godinho, Doneil Henry, Manjrekar James, Kamal Miller
Midfielders (6)
Scott Arfield, Atiba Hutchinson, Samuel Piette, Jonathan Osorio, Mark-Anthony Kaye, David Wotherspoon
Attackers (7)
Lucas Cavallini, Jonathan David, Alphonso Davies, Junior Hoilett, Cyle Larin, Liam Millar, Ballou Tabla
Notes:
- I always thought that the third goalkeeper should be for development purposes; we need to get St. Clair into the NT picture (also considered Ranjitsingh)
- Kaye can cover the back up left-back spot. In fact, he may be the starter there over Adekugbe
- Wotherspoon was my last pick. I was thinking about guys like Edwards or Teibert for versatility, Chapman for something different, Fraser for youth, or a different position for more cover in other areas, but I feel like Wotherspoon is decently versatile himself and we need to know what we have with him and whether or not he's someone we use going forward
- Our midfielders (other than Wotherspoon) pick themselves, and when (if?) Atiba retires then Eustaquio will slide right in as a clear pick. Not only that, we have lots of versatility in the type of central midfielders we have. You can throw out any combination of Arfield, Atiba, Piette, Osorio, Kaye, or Eustaquio and it would be pretty well balanced
- I honestly almost left Larin off the team. If we had one striker other than Cavallini who was solid (Akindele?) then he'd be off. I was always a booster of his but his lack of form is undeniable at this point. That being said, sometimes players can use national team appearances to kick start their careers
