I found an interesting graphic that someone had posted on Twitter a couple days ago. It is a calendar for the 2019 EXCEL program, but I'm not sure what the original source is:

For me, the most important parts of the calendar are the national youth team camps that are listed:

    • U18-23
      • February 15-24, Location TBD "Best With Best Camp"
      • December 2-11, Mexico City, Mexico "Best With Best Camp"
    • U17
      • March 4-13, Location TBD "Best With Best Camp"
      • April 16-23, Florida, USA "Pre-CONCACAF U17 Camp"
      • August 4-13, Location TBD "Best With Best Camp"
      • September 25-October 4, Location TBD "Pre U17 World Cup Camp"
    • U15
      • July 14-21, Location TBD "Best With Best Camp"
      • December 2-11, Mexico City, Mexico "Best With Best Camp"

That is a total of eight youth camps planned for the various youth teams this year. If you add in the CONCACAF U17 and U15 Championships this year, and potentially the U17 FIFA World Cup, we could have as many as 11 youth camps this year. This is great news for our youth programs and hopefully can put any talk of us not having enough youth camps to bed.

Looking forward to seeing the camp roster for the Best with Best camp U18-U23, whenever that might be released.

Is this calendar made by Soccer Canada or on their website?

  2. It sucks to not see the team play as many games as they can. But if it saves hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to put more effort into the organization of all men's teams and player development, then I think it's a win. I'd rather we  play in the Toulon tournament vs a senior team friendly.

    (Yes, I am serious).

I like Hutchison as the CB. I am unsure about Johnson in on RB.

I thought Tabla was more of a winger, but if he played CM that would be great.

  4. Thought Millar was one of the best players against New Zealand, but you're right, with a complete team (which we didn't have for the friendly), he might be best used currently as a sub.

  5. Sticking with the 4-3-3 from the Toulon Tournament.

                               Cavallini

               Davies                         Millar

       Arfield            Hutchinson        Hoilett

    De Jong      James       Jakovic       Godhino

                                 Borjan

The defence for me is pretty weak. Seems many are a toss up, i.e. Petrasso, Adekugbe, James, Cornelius, Cordova etc . Maybe playing a 3-4-3 would be better.

                                 Cavallini

                                  Millar

    Davies          Osario       Arfield      Hoilett

                                Hutchinson

             De Jong     Jakovic       Godhino

                                 Borjan

Regardless of how we end up with the formation, I think Canada has lacked pace and organization in the past. Herdman seems to be helping with the organization so far in the short-term. Regarding pace, this is why both Millar and Davies are in my starting line-ups. Arfield and Hutchinson are great distributors so they fixture in my starting line-up as well - important for the counter-attack to pass to speedsters Millar and Davies in full-stride.

Maybe a bit off topic, but could a Hutchinson play in the back-4 ( like Bradley recently with TFC)?
