  1. Weaker team maybe. But Outside the top 4 teams there's not much to separate the average MLS team from the Super Lig. Strange that he seems to be struggling so much at Besiktas.
  2. Would appear he stayed on the bench today against Rizespor. Atiba went 90. 4-1 Final.
  3. He's also tied with Rodrigo of Brazil as the most valuable 17 yr old in the world.
  4. For individual players i tend to agree. Transfermarket measures players over all value which factors their age as well as skill. I think we all could argue that Atiba may be just a good player now as he was 4 years ago when his value was three times higher. Basically it looks at players as long term investments.
  5. No, its not a perfect way to gauge overall player/team strength but in general i feel its pretty accurate. You argue that its flawed since players drop in value when coming to MLS before even playing. I would argue that is often due to the player transferring from a stronger league and or advancing age of the player. I believe your will see the opposite when you have a younger player transferring in, especially from a weaker league. This goes for any league not just MLS. I agree with the over all sentiment here that this kid is in a very good situation to prove himself. If he continues to get playing time, based on the quality of his team alone he should be looking at a cmnt call up in the near future.
  6. FWIW, Transfermarkt has the Belgium's Jupiler Pro League's Total market value at 570,98 mil euro vs MLS at 487,50 mil euro. KAA Gent is listed at at TMV of 56,90 mil euro. To put that in perspective TFC is listed at 30.18 mil. Not sure how anyone concludes that MLS is the stronger league by any metric.
  7. True, but I think we have a little more depth now. I seem to recall the NT in the Yallop/Mitchell era having to rely on a lot of players from the Impact and Whitecaps when they were in the A league.
  8. Everyone needs to ctfd. It was a nice back heel, but he was unmarked infront of the goal. It was as much bad defending as it was a "Fantastic Finish".
  9. We were better in that era. You can also add DeRo, Josh Simpson, I'd also take Adrian Serioux over the likes of Samuel Piette or Adam Straith. The following screenshot from Transfermarket clearly illustrates this.(Left side: Present, right side: 2008)
  10. This would likely be his last chance to play in the EPL. It would be cool to see.
  11. As others have mentioned, Atiba has been the more consistent player. Always been a starter and important player for his club and that's been the case for the last 10 years of his career. Because of that I feel over all Atiba has been the better over all player of the two. However the question asked (or at least how I interpreted it) was who the more skilled player at their peak and I chose JDG. In 2007-2008 he was Deportivo de La Coruña's player of the season. At his peak he was a truly world class player interrupting the midfield play of teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona. Unfortunately Atiba has never had the chance to prove him self at the same level. To me a better question would be who was the best when they were at their best, JDG or Radzinski? I know, two different positions (though Radz did play attacking mid a lot for Fulham) but for me that's a harder one to answer.
