  1. Good post, but this part made my head hurt.

Never happened before to a keeper. Case closed. Guilty of match-fixing. 😝

More specifically, I wonder if the Davies - Nike ad appearance was a factor. That kind of marketability doesn't come to Cote D'Ivoire players.

    The Importance of Alphonso Davies

(...nvm not worth debating) So excited to see Davies featured in this ad!

That's a good guess and I'm inclined to think you're right. I probably would have had a better idea if I had been watching & listening intently rather than had the game on in the background while working

I watched the last 25 minutes of the match. It was mostly desperation from Gent (a lot of long balls) and they couldn't manufacture much. David wasn't getting on the end of many of them (to be fair it seems like Gent have bigger target men for that), but he was putting in a shift moving around the pitch quite a bit to try and get involved. To be honest, he didn't stand out, but neither did any of the Gent players for the period I watched. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric and for him to not be a sore thumb on that kind of a stage is an accomplishment in itself. At the end of the match, I heard the Dutch announcer say something along the lines of "Not a success for Gent <and then as they showed David>, but a personal success for David". To be honest, I kind of wondered what he meant, but perhaps it was simply the fact he got subbed on in such a huge game and held his own?

Maybe this has been posted before, but it's the first time I'd seen it. I didn't realize that the kid is pretty outgoing and charismatic!

Loosely translating, after the second goal: "And his day could not be going better... actually, his start to this season could not be going better!"

http://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/3380761/barcelonas-ballou-jean-yves-tabla-didier-drogba-is-proud-of-me Ballou's ability to run at defenders has helped him make an impression at the club already, with B team coach Gerard Lopez hopeful he will add something different in the side's battle against relegation from the second tier of Spanish football. "Ballou's a player that has that special spark out wide," Gerard told a news conference. "We were struggling to break [Alcorcon] down and he had two or three good moments where he beat a man. "But he's not just good in one-on-one situations, he's also good at linking up with his teammates. His adaption is a work in progress still, due to the language and everything that comes with the move, but he's an 18-year-old kid with a lot of potential and he could be important for us."

    Ballou Tabla

Less than 24 hours after introducing seven new players , the Impact confirmed Tuesday that Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla will not be back with the team for the 2018 season. The 18-year-old was not with his teammates for the first day of the training camp at the Nutrilait Center. Blue-white-black technical director Adam Braz said Ballou's transfer was imminent. "We are in advanced discussions with a club for the transfer of Ballou".
