  1. Henry has been playing exceptionally well. To borrow a term from American football, he's been the Caps shutdown defender. He takes on the opponent's top striker and he's been successfully shutting them down. Except for the handball (a big mistake!), he was one of the best - if not the best - Whitecap on the day.

Which all fits, cause he was probably number 3-4 anyways.  Hopefully he can have a good start and make it his own.  This keeps me interested in watching Caps games now that Davies is gone!!  And the Impact for their young CDN defenders and Mids.  Not sure why I watch TFC anymore though.

Henry will also likely start with Cornelius on the bench. Once Teibert and Levis are healthy, they will likely be at least a part-time starters. And the Caps have a few good young players to watch for including Simon Colyn, Theo Bair and Michael Baldisimo. So there are a few reasons to keep an eye on the Caps this year.

First Cornelius and now ZBG headed to MLS.  It’s a pretty big day for Canadians domestically suddenly.

I do think this is a good level for him for this season.

I also wonder how much having a Gold Cup tournament is a factor in Canadian players coming to play here at MLS level. These are starters who will get a lot of profile from their CanMNT appearances.

  4. I just don't get the total lack of investment in the youth teams. Even 2 or 3 years ago we were holding camps for all these age groups and even ID camps for U15s across the country. Now: nothing. Silence. We show up for the qualifications with the best from the MLS academies and that's it! I don't get it.

For me, he is definitely in our best 11.

Why is this even a debate? Arfield is critical to our success. He and Osorio are very powerful in the middle of the field. With them, we have the ability to win the ball, create chances from the middle of the field and play with aggressiveness. You could make the case that's he our best player right now.

Henry is playing on a team which expects the CBs to do all the defending. Robbo doesn’t know how to build a defensive system so everything falls back to the center backs. Yes, Henry made a couple mistakes. But honestly, if other players did their jobs many of those goals wouldn’t have happened.

It was just one poor game. He actually has been a very good defender for the caps this year. I wouldn’t hesitate to call him an MLS level starter, and if we can say that about any of our other center backs then I am happy to play them ahead of Henry, but I don’t think we can.

Totally agree with this. Was going to say something like this as well but this is far more articulate than anything i can write.

We're talking about Teibert right? We're talking about the fact that based on the season MAK had, he would've been called up possibly over RT if you're looking at the midfield depth chart... Let me list it for you:

    1. Arfield

    2. Hutchinson

    3. Osorio

    4. Piette

    5. MAK

    6. Wotherspoon

    7. Tiebert

    8. Johnson

    9. Fraser

    10. Chapman

This is not including the players who are currently being courted like Eustaqiuo, who would move into the top.....but ask your analytics guy what he thinks.

This looks about right to me. I think Froese gets in there somewhere when he's healthy (prob after Teibert at the moment).

I feel bad for the guy.. not one person from either side said a thing to him (that I could see) ... that’s not leadership.  You need Doneil on his game down the stretch and I feel like he gets very little respect for the quality he is. Like I see the caps going after Dominguez that Salvadoran and they’re saying “oh good waston needs a partner” like what?? How is this kid near Henry?  He’s an established MLS center back who is only 25 and he gets injured or shit on all the time.

Sure much of it is his doing but that upset me even as a tfc fan to see the lack of teammate support for him.

Luckily he’s a very strong character.

Only saw the game on TV but I did see one of the Caps from the bench go right to him after the whistle blew.

BUMP this thread as he is the main topic on Awuah's thread.  And as if on cue he springs Hurtado with a beautiful long ball in the championship tonight.  Makes us remember he can do more than run around the midfield

Glad to see him getting some more playing time. He is what he is: a steady workhouse, positionally sound, smart, and can ping the ball around nicely. What he isn't is fast, or particularly good around the opponents' 18.

What's stopping MLS teams from contacting CPL teams ahead of time? Genuine question, I always thought this sort of thing was done fairly regularly in Europe (and I don't mean officially affiliated clubs, just regular loans).

Whitecaps have said they have already had talks with Pacific FC and the Cavalry about doing exactly this. Expect to potentially see guys like Michael Baldisimo, Theo Bair and Thomas Hasal loaned to CPL.

I don't think I was being unfair, and I could say the same about Impact and Whitecaps fans. I don't think fans of TFC, Whitecaps or Impact particularly care if there are Canadians in their squad (otherwise you'd think there might have been a few more by now), and in some instances Canadians seem to come in for extra criticism in relation to other imports who perform similarly or worse. Am I wrong?

I would slightly disagree: fans of the Whitecaps/TFC/Impact are pleased to see Canadians in the lineup, but won't stop going if there aren't enough Canadians in the lineup.

There could be another MAK type player out there ?

This is where I do hold some hope. We've had a few decent players seemingly come out of nowhere and make contributions, add depth and even push their way into the starting lineup. Kaye played for a Canadian university program. Jackson-Hamel was as low on Montreal's depth chart as you could go and there were rumours he was about to be released. Arfield wasn't known as a Canadian. The CPL will uncover more and unleash the potential of some players now buried on a depth chart somewhere.

Luca G can’t even get a cap so that says something ditto Stanese, Didic and Cornelius.

This is where our system is the weakest: top prospects are Derek Cornelius, Julian Dunn and....?

Got a chance to watch his sub performance in the semi's. It went to extra time and the Whitecaps U19 were down a man for some of it so Colyn (pronounced Co-line) didn't get too much time on the ball. You can tell he has a pro mindset at 16. Though against 18-19 year olds he does look a bit over matched physically. He's holding his own up an age group though and that's great!

I watched the same game and came to the same conclusion. Very raw but looks like he has some promise as an attacking mid who can make an attacking play while on the move.

Not that you could really blame him for either, but didn't look to great on either of Orlando's goals tonight.

No idea how you could pin either goal on him. First goal against was result of mids giving ball away and then not tracking back to cover. Second goal was a giveaway by the mids and Doneil caught in the middle. He was very good again today and I look forward to seeing him as a regular starter with Waston.
