You can't play Hoilett in a 3-5-2 and that puts less focus on Davies in an attacking role if he has to run back and forth as a wingback.

Hoilett has played wingback against teams like Man U this year and has defended effectively.

Davies is one of the few players we have with the required engine to attack and defend effectively on the wing.  It can be done and it's a reasonable option if we want to start Tabla or David in attacking roles.

  2. To compare David's current 8 league goals this year to other good seasons by Canadian forwards:

    - Cavallini also has 8 league goals so far this year. Last year he had 13.  Best was 14 in Uruguay in 2014.

    - Rob friend's best year was in 2007 when he scored 17 in B2 (the next year he had 7 in B1).

    - Ali Gerba had 10 goal seasons in the third tiers of Germany and England in 2008 and 2009.

    - Radzinski had 23 goals in Belgium in 2001.

Still, if it’s such an important initiative, should the national capital be missing from the new soccer league that starts play in April with seven teams located from Victoria to Halifax?

CPL commissioner David Clanachan evidently doesn’t think so even though he and everyone else has known since last summer that Ottawa Fury FC planned to remain in the U.S.-based United Soccer League through at least 2019. Its franchise agreement allows Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group to shift Fury FC to a Canadian league without penalty, but only with one year’s advance notice to USL, and the deadline for 2020 has passed, too.

Godhino does starts often at RB for Hearts, just keep that in mind

Today is his third start out of 7 possible league games for hearts in 2019.

(his minutes are being managed due to his previous injury).

This is mine. For all the hype surrounding Eustaquio, Arfield provide the one thing this squad is sorely lacking; experience.

Bench: Larin, Osorio, Piette, Kaye, Cornellius, Brault-Guillard, Crepeau.

Rest of the 23: Millar, Tabla, Teibert, Morgan, Eustaquio.

I see that back four getting absolutely shredded in an away qualifier.  James and Henry are very similar athletic CBs with track records of being error prone, you need to pair one up with a veteran presence who is comfortable on the ball, like Jakovic or Edgar who unfortunately are at the end of their careers.  Cornelius fits that mold but is green as grass.  Adekugbe is ok but is still behind deJong in my view, and Godinho is not playing regularly and stuggles defensively in Scotland.  This back four needs to start playing consistently against better opposition in order to make the massive improvements that are required to get us to the next level.

That looks like a formation where we plan to win with a 6-5 scoreline.   We are already thin at the back - I am not sure the solution is to put Hutch in there and get rid of our outside backs.

3-4-3 can be a very defensive formation as well, this year Cardiff have played a 3-4-3 against the big teams in the EPL, with Hoilett wide right.

  7. Gutierrez only had a handful of games last season in Peru.  He moved from one middle of the pack team to another mid year in search of minutes, but could not break the starting 11 on either team.  He's not quite up to the standard of being a difference maker in a competitive Peruvian league team anymore, but he still seems to have something to prove, so he will likely be a good fit in the CPL.

The Peruvian and Venezuelan leagues have plenty of diamonds in the rough these days, lets hope the CPL can get their scouting in order and make some money in player transfers from these markets.

  8. Perhaps Davies needs to play the rest of the year with the U23s and also needs a full pre season to become a viable option for Bayern. I won't judge him or the move until this time next year. There is a wide gap between MLS and Bayern and if he can bridge that gap in a year, it will still be a massive success.

Just keep working Fonz. Nothing good comes easy and Rome wasn't built in a day.

  9. They may want to expand to 24 teams, like the Euro.  So 10 Conmebol and 14 Concacaf.  If so, I dont think we lose much by merging the competitions.  GC every 2 years kindof dilutes the competition.

On the other hand, Ive seen it reported that the GC is played every 2 years as it is a cash cow and Concacaf relies on the money generated to stay afloat.

  10. The CSA has been pretty good about releasing news on players in the build up to upcoming games to generate interest and sell tickets, like with Tabla and the Dominica game in Toronto.  There's no way they'd announce Eustaquio or Ferreira now given their long term injuries.  Even if they've signed up, they'll sit on the news in order to use it to sell tickets down the road.

Akinola would be a joke, he's done nothing to deserve a call up.

    I'm thinking Tomori.

    My guess is Cristián Gutiérrez.

    1) His brother is in the system. There is a (slim chance) both twins could play together on the U23 team later this year.

    2) Based on the possible player pool/depth within Chile, having fallen from a good youth prospect to mid-table Chilean team (where he was far from a regular starter), he may not make the Chile Olympic U23 team a year from now:

Gutierrez only saw the pitch 7 times last year, 630 minutes in total.  The Chilean league is good, but barely getting minutes on a mid table team, thats not good enough to walk onto the CMNT.  Cordova got 16 appearances and over 1000 minutes, and they basically play the same positions.  If its him, it would be underwhelming.
