I've been to a few Canada games over the years where Canada seems like the away team in Toronto!  Great diversity & culture which our NT represents but also not the best home environment!  But I do the many of the players enjoy it as it is home for many.

I think our group is one where the host city is irrelevant.  Not really a large Cuban ex-pat community in Canada, and Cuban-Americans, much like all Americans, won't have any more trouble travelling to Vancouver or Edmonton than they would travelling to Toronto.

Exactly what I was thinking. It's not the group of death, it's the group of defections. Hopefully Cuba doesn't have to play their 2 away games in one window, they might not have enough players to play the second game.

I agree, Group D looks like the closest thing to a Group of Death, IMHO.

Someone brought that up earlier. The conclusion seemed to be that this player didn't actually get booked in one of those games (the Jamaica game I think).

I was reading elsewhere that part of the confusion was based around the fact that the player in question wore #2 in one game and #5 in the other.

  4. I've seen many games so far played at this stadium in Anguilla because of the Nations League, and I am always shocked just how poor the condition is.

When we hosted two WCQ games vs. Belize (I think it was 2004) at Richardson Stadium in Kingston I thought that the condition of the field then was unworthy, but compared to this field in Anguilla, Richardson is Wembley.

But FIFA rules dont work like that though... Right?

How many generations deep can you go. Doesn't eligibility go as far as a players grandparents.

Theoretically each subsequent generation could continue filling in the paperwork for Monserrat citizenship and keep that eligibility train rolling along.

Montserrat's qualification realistically comes down to the results of four matches, of which they need two to go their way to qualify:

    1. El Salvador vs Jamaica: a Jamaica win or a draw
    2. Dominican Republic vs Bermuda: a draw
    3. Canada vs French Guiana: a Canada win or a draw
    4. Barbados vs Nicaragua: a Barbados win or a draw

So if we get the result we need we'll be doing our part to secure Montserrat's spot in the Gold Cup at the same time!

If Jamaica can get anything from the game about to start, Montserrat can still qualify as long as only two of the other three results go against them.  So if Jamaica win or tie, a win or tie by us tomorrow means Montserrat qualify for the Gold Cup.

  7. I find it really interesting that depending on results, it is possible that British Virgin Islands (currently ranked 207th out of 211 teams in FIFA) has a chance of qualifying for League B.

If they beat Bonaire tomorrow, they will be on 4 points and will pass Turks and Caicos based on goal difference.  Of teams still remaining on either 1 or 3 points, the only one that seems likely to be able to earn points still is Grenada, but they face a Puerto Rico team that so far has proven really difficult to score on.  If the game ends in a draw, Grenada would be on 4 points and -9 GD.  If British Virgin Islands beats Bonaire they would be on 4 points and at worst a -8 GD.
