  1. ...and the current Unofficial Football World Champions are that great soccer powerhouse Zimbabwe.
  2. Anyone got any info on Canada's Subs in this game? Were any made? Did Yallop use them all?
  3. My brother's best friend is named Troy McClure. A couple of months ago a photographer from the local weekly paper where I live took some pictures of them skateboarding and when the photog asked them for their names and Troy said 'Troy McClure' the photog called him a 'Smart-mouthed little punk' It was hilarious, took us a few minutes to actually convince the the guy that Troy's last name really was McClure. Good times.
  4. Does anyone know of any Media players other than the ultra-buggy DivX that can play .avi files?
  5. In the General/OT forum I had already started this topic: http://www.canadian-soccer.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6254 It contains a link to a rumoured Toronto-based tour that would include PSG, Benfica, and Olympiacos.
  6. It seems 4 rather significant European Clubs are planning a trip to Toronto this summer. http://www.tribalfootball.com/march/scotnews4150305.html
  7. Theo Davis attended Father Henry Carr in Toronto. The Bayside, NY school is a prep school. It is not uncommon for non-Americans to spend a year in Prep school to acclimitize themselves to the US eductaion system. Also, was it really the Blue Jays' responsibilities to recognize and promote the Triple-A teams of other organizations?
  8. I want to take not with the tone and the implications of your post. The Blue Jays and Raptors have most definitely had a very positive impact on the development of athletes in their respective sports in Canada. In baseball, at all professional levels in the United States, Canada has produced more players than any other country except for the US, and the Dominican Republic. Also, right now there are more Canadians playing Division I basketball in the US than at any other point in history. Players like Denham Brown and Theo Davis (both from the Toronto area as a matter of fact) have a very real shot at not only making it to the NBA but also having long and productive careers.

  10. I'm one of those baseball fans who haven't really come back to the game since the '94 strike. Before that I used to watch about 2 games a day. Now I might watch 12-15 a season. Although I admit that I was cheering for the Red Sox this past season because I truly believed their fans deserved a World Series title. Same reason I was rooting for the Cubbies the year before. Those two teams may have the best fans in all of North American professional sports, in my opinion.
  11. Why do you refer to Windsor as the UCLA of Canada?
  12. I've had some experience with Maltese people playing Hattrick (an online Soccer Management Sim), despite having names that are obviously of English, Italian and Arabic background, and while they speak English the language most used is Maltese which is not even close to english. Some examples are:
  13. My younger cousin played against him in a High School tourney in Mississauga a couple years ago and said the guy is as slow as George Bush is dumb (actual quote) The problem with most guys that tall though is agility, it actually does take more than just being freakishly tall to play basketball.
  14. I noticed. But I picked Steaua to knock them out.
  15. I picked Shakhtar over them. Chelsea have proven that you can buy success.
  16. I did half-decent in my predictions. Right now I'm 11-4 this round with the Atletico Bilbao-Austria Vienna game still to be played on Sunday.
  17. Just the regular Sportsnet channels. Sportsnet shows a Primera Division game every Saturday evening (at about 7PM) and it is almost always a game involving either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
  18. I'm somewhat confused about his wife and child having problems getting commonwealth Visas. His child, even though born stateside is a Canadian citizen, and his wife getting Canadian Citizenship (if she isn't Canadian to begin with) would ge a simple matter of signing a few papers since their child proves that their marriage is in fact real and not just for citizenship purposes. So they should be able to get the exact same Commonwealth visas.
  19. The Hockey News is reporting that the two sides have agreed in principle on a $45M salary cap. Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux are in New York and involved in the final negotiations. Gary Bettman may 'un-cancel' the season tomorrow if the final details are successfully negotiated. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article.jsp?content=20050218_170817_1040 http://thn.com/en/headlines/detail.asp?id=27358
  20. For the first time since the lockout started, I have faith that a resolution is near. The union offered the League a $52M salary cap and the League rejected it. Apparently the League wants the cap at $40M, I say the split the difference and settle on $46M. The union's offer also included the 24% salary rollback and 'aggressive' payroll taxes. http://sports.sympatico.msn.ca/Home/ContentPosting.aspx?feedname=CP-AllSports&newsitemid=9157010 I am one of those who was blaming the players and the PA since the beginning of the lockout, but after reading this I'd put the onus of blame on the League right now.
  21. The 8 highest ranked nations plus the Hosts got automatic berths. Most Current IIHF Rankings: 1-Canada 2-Sweden 3-Slovakia 4-Czech Republic 5-Finland 6-USA 7-Russia 8-Germany 19-Italy There were then three qualification groups, the qualifiers (and their World Rankings) are: 9-Switzerland 10-Latvia 17-Kazakhstan http://www.iihf.com/news/Ranking2004.pdf
  22. Belarus finished behind Latvia in their qualifying group.
