If he plays in top flight Egypt, after 4 games he is ahead of half the players you name, maybe more.
I can't for the life of me figure out what team he is with, what sort of updates are these?

If you watch him play, he does the right things. His movement is good, he can hold up, he is experienced. So he is not a top flight killer, fine. I don't even know if he has much of a shot.
I think if someone picks him up for CPL, depending of course how he is coached and the team is asked to play, he will be a bonus for the team. I just don't know if he'd want to go back to Canada so much to make 60 grand, which would be slim. I doubt he'd rate 70k the way we are hearing salaries line up. Maybe set him up with bonuses for performance.

Yes what I meant was back then it was relatively easy given there were only so many sources/routes for info!

The old days! To be fair, the CSA has a list at one time but never updated it. So I took that and just started combing websites, soccer computer games, emailing clubs asking if they had Canadians on the books.  Back then the net was a smaller place with fewer websites and clubs online the job seems so much more simple and manageable!

You think a young pro should sit out a year but I'm a dick, OK.
You are not even on topic for the thread you're trolling it.
The point is the whole CPL as the only and best future for a player who is without a team is ridiculous. And especially when he was released the previous day.

Why would a professonal player sit out for a year, it makes no sense? Unless you are joking, can we stop with this silliness guys.

Agreed. Unremarkable England Tier 5 and Tier 4 loans to first team in the Irish league really isn't that much of a drop. It is very common for those that "almost make" clubs throughout the English leagues to drop into non-league (or worse!) after the close of their first contract. See Elliot Godfrey.

It's funny how we live and die by many of these dual nationals but then they don't really turn out into these great players once they choose Canada. He was really poor at the Toulon Tournament and as for this move, as long as he gets regular minutes that's good.

While it is possible that Potter was wowed by Borjan during the UEFA cup, it really just reads like the site is identifying the Tier Two clubs that need goalies and putting a name to them.  And even if it is true, Bristol and West Brom only need back ups. Heck, Villa need a goalie more than any of those teams.

Yes but it is incredible dedication, the sacrifice is huge. I doubt any make enough to live properly, though they may have an apartment from the club or some small perk. In any case, you have to be very convinced to give it a shot, since even if you end up in 2nd tier in a few years, which would be a big step up, you are still at a very modest level.

Don't expect Eustaquio to play for us until at the very least after the 2019 UEFA U21 cycle is over or Portugal...at minimum.

...but even when you only slightly loosen the defintion of what is covered by the Ruhr you have multiple huge clubs like Borussia Moenchengladbach, Cologne, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Bayer Leverkusen entering the fray along with some not so large but at times significant ones like Wuppertal and Uerdingen, so the underlying point still holds. TFC cover a vast catchment that would have multiple large clubs in a country where soccer is king. Don't think many would argue that the Argonauts provide a valid indication of what gridiron football could draw in the GTA if an NFL team ever arrived, so when you have a league like MLS that is also still a clear step down from the real big time in quality terms I think it's reasonable to assume that soccer isn't firing on all cylinders yet in terms of its latent potential in the GTA. Doubt the theory will ever be tested in practice any time soon, unfortunately, because the quality of the domestic player pool has always been the Achilles heel on this.

The CPL level may not be that high or a real first division but I don't think it will be all that hard to reach USL level. There are a lot of Canadian players who aren't currently playing USL for a lot of reasons other than they are not good enough. The major reason is the low salaries and it is not really worth it moving to a different city and in most cases a different country to play for $25 to $35 k often on a non guaranteed contract unless you are either a strong MLS prospect or really determined to keep your career going. There is no real pyramid either except for young talented players, ie. a 23 or 24 year old player going to German 4th division could conceivably move up to 3rd division if he does well while very very few players that age or older will have a chance at MLS because the gap in levels is too big. Plus there are tons of USL players in the US already so you have to be better than them to get a spot on a team and also a work permit in which case there are probably better places for you to go career wise. I think in Quebec if we took the 7 PLSQ teams and made 2 all star teams from their best players we could put out 2 USL level teams. To have USL level teams the CPL will just have to offer salaries that are equal or slightly better than the low salaries USL offers and if they can not reach that budget minimum level then the league is not adequately financed to have a chance of survival. However, that level is still going to be way below the MLS level though so the challenge is not getting people to take it seriously because it is not USL level the challenge is to get people to take it seriously because it is not MLS level or the level of leagues they are watching in Europe.

Just to be clear, 2B is one thing in Spain, fourth tier Tercera quite another. One offers living salaries and is professional, the other means basically just speculating on your future with no immediate dividends.
Like in other lower tiers, the teams with big stadiums, aspiring to promote, with a fan base and sponsors, can pay more. But that is like 10% of the 80 teams in Spanish 2B, the rest are modest. An example, don't know if I ever posted this: I saw a stat on twitter references to the 80 teams in 2B last year, Extremadura, where Hume was, in the top 5, they have followers around the world, and were getting over 5000 out to games and late in the season even more. Izarra, Piette's team, was fourth from the bottom in social media interest, they have no proper web, no community manager, nothing, they are bare bones. I don't think they ever got a thousand out to a game. This is why I emphasized what Piette was doing with that team, just staying in the category. Watch them this year (Aparicio): I think they'll relegate.
But let's be honest, until MLS raised their minimum wages only a few years ago, there were players having problems paying their bills who could not save at all (in 2008 it was at 33 grand, with some developmental players making a thousand a month), alongside the high-priced DPs. Now that has changed, because up to less than a decade ago it was shameful.

Looks like Hirschfeld has stopped playing and is now an assistant coach with KFUM. If it is indeed the end, congratulations on a great career with club and national team. Our best gk in the past 15 years.

I don't see what is wrong with this move. A starter on a Spanish 3rd division club is not a bad place for a 21 year old Canadian player. He has left a bigger club but we do not know how much he was in their plans or in those of Dusseldorf before. If you look at the average league level of our national team players he is not that far below it in the Spanish 3rd division. A good season with Izarra and he could attract interest from the 2nd division which would put him at a level as high or higher than most of our national team starters. He is in a good pyramid and needs to play to showcase himself and move up it. He may or may not do so but I don't see this as a bad move at all.
