Wingback6 got a reaction from Billy Bishop in Valour FC - Launch / 2019 Pre-Season
Been meaning to post this for a few days... a little insight for those of you who aren't from the Peg. And... well... a salve..of sorts. for those who are. (And apologies, I try to keep the word count down normally)
Winnipeg Football Club has been around a long time. It is a publicly owned entity with a board of directors, and a president. None of these are association football people. To the people in charge of the club, yes, this is largely a side show. For the most part. According to one source I have, Wade Millar is on board. Unfortunately, the board is not.
While some of Valour's actions might seem... greedy -  for a lack of a better term - compared to those of the other clubs, we have to understand that trying to get a gridiron football club, to do soccer, in a soccer way, is a bit like trying to turn the Titanic. It is going to take time, and patience. Personally, I don't think they are doing half bad, all things considered.
That being said, while we may be a bit pooched, in some respects, in the ownership side of things (aside from a sweet field), we are more than blessed on the footie side of things. Galey is a right proper coach, with long experience in the game at a high level -  if we take into account his time as a youth at Fulham. What's more, he has lived in the Peg a long time, and I don't think he harbours many illusions about the situation he, and his team are in. Though I will cease further conjecture about what the gaffer may or may not think.
At the end of the day, we have a unique situation compared to the other teams in the league. We don't just have to win over the fans, we have to win over the owners. So far, from what I have seen, we will be able to do just that, though not until balls start getting kicked, and goals start getting scored.  I do worry that the attendance numbers will not be there at first. Perhaps that is the perpetually pessimistic Pegger in me.
In closing. To the disillusioned few, may I offer the following words of comfort, as ubiquitous with summer in these parts as mosquitoes and mayflies... "its the Bombers... what the fuck did you expect?"

You beat me to it. As soon as I saw that I figured it had to be Valour vs Forge, and I’ll take it a bit further and predict it will be in Hamilton.

It's been a while since we had a post like this before....you even did the whole "We don't even have a professional hockey league," spiel.
You're new so I'll take it easy on ya.
You got to utilize more than just citing anecdotal media evidence of the country's obsession with one sport when arguing if this venture will fail or not.

Used to play street soccer here in Vancouver with kids who were central American immigrants, and they always referred to me as "Blanquito". (I guess they didn't know the Spanish word for "beaver")

Since we are completely off topic, i'll share a little story with you. Last time I was in nigeria, playing soccer in the village, one kid walked up to me and called me snowman, which was pretty funny!

Watching the Labour Day Classics on tv today makes me  think the CPL should take a page out of the CFL's book and figure out a rivalry weekend, same teams each day/year. My first instinct was July 1st, but since the day of the week for that varies it might be trickier.  But the August long weekend would probably work well.  Hockey is over, weather is good, CFL is Labour Day so it avoids conflicting.

Kit concept for Valour FC. Actually struggled a lot with this one balancing the colour scheme. Simplified it as much as I could and am quite happy with the result.
Would love to head feedback from Valour FC fans.
Please avoid making comments about the sponsor or the kit manufacturer, they are simply place holders.

The story of the man known as "Blackhawk" is itself worth looking into. He was quite the leader.

How so? The Black Hawks were named after an American military battalion and the owners wife chose a Native American warrior to represent that fighting spirit. Much better than a circus character imo at least.

I have a bunch of Umbro Canada jackets/hoodies/scarves and a keeper training jersey that Borjan gave me but I haven't actually bought a Canada jersey yet.
David is from Ottawa and of Haitian descent (like me); if he gets a senior call I feel like I should get his jersey...

As far as loans go, this would be good for him. Sunderland are still a big club, even if they have fallen on hard times. At the very least he will get exposure, even if his future does not end up being at Liverpool in the long run. Of course Stevie G is gone on to Rangers now. Perhaps Millar might find himself there too, in the not too distant future.
