  1. Been meaning to post this for a few days... a little insight for those of you who aren't from the Peg. And... well... a salve..of sorts. for those who are. (And apologies, I try to keep the word count down normally) Winnipeg Football Club has been around a long time. It is a publicly owned entity with a board of directors, and a president. None of these are association football people. To the people in charge of the club, yes, this is largely a side show. For the most part. According to one source I have, Wade Millar is on board. Unfortunately, the board is not. While some of Valour's actions might seem... greedy - for a lack of a better term - compared to those of the other clubs, we have to understand that trying to get a gridiron football club, to do soccer, in a soccer way, is a bit like trying to turn the Titanic. It is going to take time, and patience. Personally, I don't think they are doing half bad, all things considered. That being said, while we may be a bit pooched, in some respects, in the ownership side of things (aside from a sweet field), we are more than blessed on the footie side of things. Galey is a right proper coach, with long experience in the game at a high level - if we take into account his time as a youth at Fulham. What's more, he has lived in the Peg a long time, and I don't think he harbours many illusions about the situation he, and his team are in. Though I will cease further conjecture about what the gaffer may or may not think. At the end of the day, we have a unique situation compared to the other teams in the league. We don't just have to win over the fans, we have to win over the owners. So far, from what I have seen, we will be able to do just that, though not until balls start getting kicked, and goals start getting scored. I do worry that the attendance numbers will not be there at first. Perhaps that is the perpetually pessimistic Pegger in me. In closing. To the disillusioned few, may I offer the following words of comfort, as ubiquitous with summer in these parts as mosquitoes and mayflies... "its the Bombers... what the fuck did you expect?"
  2. I also would like him to get another call-up. But in all honesty. With so many young, quick players coming up, not sure where he fits in. Even Larin looks out of place, when we can play a front three of say, David, Davies, Tabla, Hoilett, or even Ricketts, Tesho or Cavallini. Haber is best as a second striker/target man. Strong, in the air and on the ball. Good touch/dribbling, better vision than he gets credit for. Unfortunately... football began moving away from the 4-4-2 and it's derivatives right around the time he started his career. I don't expect him to bang in the goals. Never have. But he's got moves, at least he used to. And I hope to see some of them on display this season... against every team except VFC.
  3. Happy for him. Haber's biggest strike against him has always been his passport, plain and simple. If he was Scottish or English, he would have had a completely different career. Just consider some of the hot garbage playing in the higher tiers of the UK. But they are local, so they get the opportunities. Being Canadian, unless he was banging in double figures every season, it was always going to be hard. Which is the whole point of the CPL, to get our boys playing anyway.

Oooh,... gonna vote Winnipeg hosting. Central location, not great for flying, but... After all... there were only those two Presidents at that CSA AGM. Come, its Winnipeg and Hamilton we are talking about, two of the most demeaned and derided cities in Canada, let us have this!

    Better be Valour vs Forge.
  6. Fair points. I'm not sure that I would take anyone out for him. The one thing he has going, however, is that he is a bit more offensive in his skill set than any of our other midfielders. However, depending on the style Herdman wants to play, that might be a liability, rather than an asset, especially if one is trying to operate a "next man up" type system. I don't think we should read too much into the fact that he hasn't gotten a call-up yet. NCFC is having a strong season. I don't think we'd see him get a call up until Camp Poutine time, if at all.
  7. Well... how do you feel about the Edgar and Crepeau call ups? Or Petrasso last year? They are also USL level. Cause if we're calling up USL level defenders and keepers, then... well why not a USL level #10 with 7 goals and 12 assists this season in the same league?
  8. I get the impression that the physical testing is also used to sort the wheat from the chaf, a la Gridiron combines. I figure that it is for that reason that only the second day of tryouts in Winnipeg are open to the public. There will already be some cuts from the first day, but maybe people who have attended some of these tryouts already can correct me on that.
  9. Normally I would argue that USL level doesn't warrant a re-call except for younger players. But 7 goals and 12 assists in 31 games are pretty good stats regardless. And we still don't have anyone that is capable of creating goals from midfield in the manner he has shown he is capable of. If he can do it in USL I am sure he could do it against CONCACAF minnows. Would love to see him spraying passes to Tabla and Phonzie on the wings.
  10. Best start he's had with a new team in quite some time.
  11. Not like it hasn't happened to the men.
  12. Can people show up a bit late? I finish work at 1:30pm.
  13. Transfermarkt lists his nationality as Peruvian. Born in Lima. Was with Crystal Lima U-19, I assume up until recently. Has some Spanish language media stuff about his time with the team and the Peruvian youth team set-up. Interesting case.
  14. The story of the man known as "Blackhawk" is itself worth looking into. He was quite the leader.
  15. Yeah. I saw that too. He looked a step behind at earlier points in the game too. Though granted, I wasn't paying super close attention.
  16. I can only imagine the expression on Pirlo's face when he saw that pitch for the first time.
  17. Forget goal of the week, candidate for goal of the season!!!
  18. The logo.... a bit to stripped down for my liking. Though it will probably look ok on merchandise. Forge FC though? Hamilton Steelers is so sososossososososo much better.
  19. As far as loans go, this would be good for him. Sunderland are still a big club, even if they have fallen on hard times. At the very least he will get exposure, even if his future does not end up being at Liverpool in the long run. Of course Stevie G is gone on to Rangers now. Perhaps Millar might find himself there too, in the not too distant future.
  20. Really? He was called up by the USMNT in 2015, though it is debatable whether he would still be getting call-ups from them now, based on how his career has played out.
  21. Good enough to earn a call-up to the USMNT.
  22. Glad they realized that they needed to put some info about merch online. After I emailed them that is. Coincedence?
  23. This is what I love about Footie, anything can happen. You can be 16 and playing in the 1st division, or spend your twenties laying bricks before you get your break.
