Largely agree, but that Piette substitution sucked - Osorio wasn't the answer, but as a sub, he would have sucked 2-5% less.

I don't see the Piette love. It took him about a minute to lose contain and let in the third goal.

I like the name. Much better than C-League, which quite literally sounds third-rate.

Redcoatsforever reacted to Keegan in Doneil Henry leaving TFC for Europe?
I find it hilarious when people rip on Doneil Henry.  The guy is probably the best young center back Canada has ever produced.  It shows you how little people in Canada/USA understand the game when we have amateur writers like Molinaro and Larson tearing up the kid for dumb reasons, as if a World Class center back never makes/made a mistake.. especially at 21.  And Hagglund gets off for every mistake because he's American and somehow in the same class as Henry in terms of class and potential.  Funny how people still hype up 1st round picks in this league despite the very low success rate associated with them.

Henry is an absolute STUD.  S - T - U - D.  Has a coach ever NOT rated him?  Nelsen, Winter, Floro, Miller, Allardyce, Hart/Fonseca... seems he's received high praise from all of them and many of those coaches who are saying he's going to the top have been at the top.

Yes he's made some poor plays but he's also been victim to some awful officiating on a few occasions.  And when he makes an amazing play no one notices.  TFC v Montreal V cup final legs 1 and  2 2014.. first tape I grab off the shelf for anyone who wants to see Henry if I'm his agent.

Because the schadenfreude thread revolving around Vancouver is whether or not they hate Canada, for TFC it's elimination watch, and for Montréal there isn't a thread because nobody cares about them.

I personally felt a lot better about our defeat watching the 7-1 match. If it happens to Brazil, we're not nearly as bad as things seem, right?

    ...right?

I suspect Fath would be happy to drop out of NASL at this point if there's a viable alternative. Ottawa may have a similar view, depending on how attendance goes in the new stadium.

According to his wikipedia page, his return to the Young Boys lineup is July this year at the soonest.

http://www.timescolonist.com/sports/simpson-works-on-comeback-in-soccer-after-devastating-injury-1.759966 < - That article doesn't give any specifics on a return, but he does say he'll be back for 2018 qualifiers.

I brought it up as a reason. The point was that Sweden is different.

    As for the rest:

    1) Soccer is not as popular in Canada as in Sweden  Really.  It's not the same anymore.  Our top pro teams out-draw theirs and our participation numbers are higher, especially on the female side.

We have three pro-teams, all in the largest cities in the country, which are spaced out by massive tracts of land and play against major American clubs.

    2) A general tendency to look down on professional sports leagues that aren't national in scope  Like the OHL and QJMHL?

Junior Hockey leagues aren't professional sports leagues. We also have several successful PDL sides, and W-League sides, which would be comparable.

    3) A general tendency to look down on women's sports  And in Sweden they look up?

In Sweden the national media actually do contribute to an atmosphere in which women's soccer is regarded alongside men's in a non-negative fashion. See Ibrahimovic's hissy-fit at being compared to Lotta Schelin by Swedish media.

    4) A general tendency to look down on leagues that operate only in Canada  Like the CFL?

Yes, actually. The CFL is regarded by many people outside of its immediate fanbase as a joke league that wishes it was the NFL.

    5) A lack of investment on the part of the people who would own clubs and buy tickets for the league to function How do you think the Swedes got to the point of paying people that much money?  They woke up one day and invented it?

So wait, you're saying that what we have right now, with the CWNT getting more press than ever and ramping up investment in the national program isn't good enough and we should be looking at Sweden, and then when I mention that we don't have investorship on par with their's at all, your argument changes to "it has to start somewhere"?

What exactly is the point you're trying to make here?

I never said it was 100% attributable, there are a lot of factors working against it, such as:

    1) Soccer is not as popular in Canada as in Sweden

    2) A general tendency to look down on professional sports leagues that aren't national in scope

    3) A general tendency to look down on women's sports

I wasn't really impressed with what I saw from Gilberto yesterday. He had a few flashes of brilliance but was largely invisible from where I sat. I'm chalking that up to having been injured until recently for now, but I thought we transitioned much better from defence to attack with Dero on.

Also, if the idiot who ran on the field and spoiled a perfectly good Defoe scoring opportunity is reading this; FUCK YOU. TFC fans do not fucking spoil their own team's scoring opportunities, regardless of the score line or who we're playing against.
