He has to forget about it and move on, try and handle his piece of the puzzle better even if high priced internationals are playing like donkeys around him.  I dont follow the impact as much as the other clubs (i never get them on my cable) but it sure seems like Garde nailed Hamel to the bench even when he had been producing (his amazing run in 2017).  Maybe I am out to lunch but its hard not to be on the side of the local players.  Cabrera makes 270, takes up an INT spot, while Piette makes 130, starts every game and plays well (95% of the time).  Shome gets 200min last year to prove himself.  And TMG keeps getting sent to the USL and he was very good for the fury last year.  Hate to see our kids on such a short leash while MLS loudly proclaims "we play our kids".

We had a good start despite the last game but it still seems dependent on two or three players. Shome has the potential and skills to be an MLS player but it is yet to be seen whether he can reach that level of play. However, I would say the exact same thing about Cabrera, he has the skills and technique to be an MLS player but has not yet reached the level of play to be considered an MLS level player. Yet he is paid a high salary and is taking up an international spot. The strange thing is that he was renewed in the offseason to the surprise of everyone who thought he would be released and that we would use his overpaid salary to get someone better. Camacho also does not seem to be a MLS level player so far despite being a starting CB in Belgium. Diallo seems good but our second best CB after him seems to be Raitala who is really a left back. I have no idea what Garde was thinking in the offseason as far as improving the defense. Even more frustrating is that we let Fanni go who along with Piatti and Piette was our best player last year. I am still not sold on Garde even though 6 points from 4 road games is a good result. It just seems too dependent on a few good players having good games as opposed to us having a good team

  2. Found this on Kicker. It says Elva signed a one year contract with a club option for 1 additional year. After his excellent performances in the last 5 games the club will exercise its option for next year.

Kennedy starts for Klagenfurt. They'll play against Pasching in 20 minutes. I think he's played every minute for Austria so far this season.

Big 2-0 win for them against FC Juniors and Kennedy plays 90 at CB. They are out of the relegation zone and if they keep up their recent results (2 wins and 3 ties in last 5 games) they might move into the mid table soon.  Kennedy has started every game for Klagenfurt this year but he has subbed out in some so he has not played every minute. However, in the highlights I have seen he seems to be their best player. With 3 goals this year he is tied for 3rd top scorer on the team which is pretty good considering he is a CB/DM. The Austrian 2nd division is not the highest level 2nd division but his performances this year seem to indicate he could move up to a better level so at 21 he has a lot of potential and we certainly could use a good CB.

    Honduras and Curacao.

    1. Get them demons off our back.

    2. Strongest team in pot 3 that might be able to get something from them as well.

Yes I agree. The important competition is WCQ. I would like to play the teams that would best prepare us for that. The teams we need to beat and have always struggled against are teams like Honduras, Panama and Costa Rica so those are the types of teams I would like to get even if it is harder to advance.

These aren't akin to posters in the breakroom (except for More Atibas, More Often). This is about telling your whole organization about what you stand for, where you're heading and how you'll get there. Basically, it tells everyone where to spend the calories human and moneywise.

Developing these type of statements is part of good leadership, and the road to good products, relevant marketing and well-received branding.

We all have complained about the CSA not being managed properly. This placemat shows they're finally showing they're at least starting to think like a professional org.

Under Montopoli the CSA was not perfect but run better than I can ever remember it being run. I see every sign of it reverting to the poor ways it was run before, no friendlies, a poor shirt design. strange firing of someone who appeared to be doing a good job, the hiring of an insider without a very impressive CV to replace him, no consequences to the coaching staff for the poor performance at the U20, tv broadcast for a home game announce the week of the match, etc.

Nah if we lost like 12-0 we’d drop below monsteratt and could fall out of the gold cup depending on other results

Yes you are right if we lost by a really large margin it is mathematically possible to not qualify if the other 3 teams that could possibly get to 9 points did that.

All top Cdn corporations use these buzzwords and do these type of strategy/vision placemats.

Wouldn't anyone want CSA to be on par with how a top Cdn corp is run and be able to deliver deliver consistently successful results.

Sorry but that is a ridiculous and also false statement. Corporations succeed because they have good leadership, a good product. good marketing and a good strategy not because they are using buzzwords. There may be some that believe in using buzzwords and motivational talks to motivate employees but it certainly is not all top Cdn corporations in fact I think it is a minority of them. And even where such strategies may work I would not want the buzzword/motivational guy to be the CEO of the company.  Not to mention that there are many large differences between how a soccer team operates and a corporation operates.

Our player pool has started to become deep enough, with more youth pushing through, that I really only want to cap tie guys who can be clear starter quality guys for us.

So maybe Tomori is one but the Evan Bush’s of the world aren’t who we should go after.

Evan Bush would be a clear number 2 keeper for us in a position we have very little depth or quality at. If he was interested in playing for us (I have seen no indication that he is) I don't know why we wouldn't want to encourage him to take citizenship and play for us. Even if Crepeau manages to establish himself as a MLS starting keeper we still have very little depth at this position. I dislike how FIFA determines eligibility and in the long term we want to develop top notch Canadians in each position but as long as the rules are what they are we should be using them to our advantage to the full extent just like all the other countries are.

"The kid was devastated. As a coach you're always upset, but you can look down this roster and there's some really good players to step through. But I was just so gutted for him. He was so excited to come back. He had some tears on the phone. He actually couldn't finish his sentences. Someone else picked the phone off him at one point. You feel for him because this meant a lot to him,” concluded Herdman."

John really going into detail. Tough for Davies but good to see how much repping Canada means to him

This seems like too much information! I wonder even if it is true or it is Herdman just over dramatizing the situation and trying to make himself look good in the process. I don't know about Davies personality but if it was 18 year old Grizzly I would not be happy about reading something like this even if it was true. It is nice to know he cares about playing and was disappointed but "The kid was devastated!" would have been sufficient. Yes we have to wait until we see how the team plays against good competition to judge Herdman's abilities but it seems like every time he opens his mouth alarm bells go off in my head saying, "Amateur level coach".

Interesting to have him back.  I thought AJH would get some looks off the bench this season, but now he has more competition.

He is on trial not signed. He could be a good cheap gamble on someone who can still play at this level but I would prefer the club give AJH more chances to show what he can do.

  11. As for concerns about the legitimacy of the injury, everyone seems to be forgetting the opinion of the most important person, Davies himself. If I were Herdman/CSA and Davies told me he could not play because of the injury I would take him at his word and leave it there. He seems to be enthusiastic about playing for Canada and probably wanted to play in Vancouver before the fans of his old team. He doesn't seem to be the type of player or person to just show up when convenient and we haven't seen any sign of him disagreeing with Bayern's assessment. No need at this point to mess up our relationship with either Davies or Bayern unless there is some reasonable evidence that one of them is screwing is.

BTW I noticed in the video that he gets up awkwardly after the knee slide. It might have been the way he got up that gave the injury not the slide itself.

I think his story says two things. First, maybe third tier in Spain is not so bad after all, maybe teams should be looking for players from that level for CPL , for example, since Piette was just a good player on a modest team in a level with 80 teams.

Then, and more importantly: he was obviously good enough to move up a level and play 2nd division in Spain, as he could likely handle any European 2nd tier. But had no decent offers. That is odd, really, he was not really appreciated by the market either. So at least Impact had the character to bring back a Quebecker and give him the confidence and the starts.

It probably also has something to do with him being a defensive midfielder which makes it harder to shine or be noticed. An offensive player lighting up the third division will get some attention. A defensive midfielder stopping the other teams' attacks may just seem to be  "a good player on a modest team".

Hearts fans all seem to agree it was a straight red and a corrupt non call! https://www.hmfckickback.co.uk/index.php?/topic/182112-connor-goldson-tackle/

The good thing is Liam is ok, he may play an important part for us Sunday!

A sign he is moving up the ranks of pro-football when fans of a team that did not even play in the game are discussing one of his plays on a thread in their forum.

I think it was just a convenient excuse to give O’Neil another shot for the time being.

If that was the reason O'Neil certainly did not justify the decision and it was his terrible back pass to the keeper that caused the second goal.

It sure looks it to me, it's Scotland where the corrupt officials look after The Old Firm, that's why!

The reffing was terrible and very biased towards Rangers. I saw the tackle watching the game and they showed one replay and I was thinking that could be straight red but now seeing the replay has convinced me that that is a straight red even if he wasn't the last man back.

    Not in the 18 today.

A bit of a strange decision from the quote below. Orlando's defense especially the CBs were very poor today so in some way that was a good result for him as I expect he will be back in the starting lineup next game:

Kamal Miller was dropped from the 18 as the coaching staff would like to manage the rookie’s minutes.

  17. Bayern is bringing along Davies slowly. They are thinking about what is best for him long term not about rolling the dice in a game they are likely going to lose anyway when they are down by two goals. As someone else mentioned, what if he screws up and then gets massacred in the press. Or even alternatively what if he scores and it goes to his head and he doesn't do the work required to establish himself as a steady Bundesliga player. Even just being on the bench for a game like that is an amazing learning experience for Davies. They will bring him along slowly and if at some point they can't give him the playing time he needs in his development they will loan him out.

His minutes could be cut significantly. The new CB Orlando signed is left footed and can play in a 3 man backline.

It is possible but the new CB is a 27 year old who has played one season in the Allsvenskan and was previously a 2nd tier player. He seemed to have a breakout year last year becoming a starting CB for the best Swedish club. He may or may not end up being a good player but it is not like they have signed a Bundesliga veteran CB. It looks more like they are taking a chance on a guy who was probably not that expensive and hoping he is a MLS level player. This deal was likely mostly done before they knew Miller would be a possible starter since even most 1st round draft picks do not pan out as well as Miller seems to be. While AIK is Sweden's best team, to put in perspective in Europa League qualifying last year they scraped by Shamrock Rovers in extra time before losing both games to Danish side Nordsjaelland in the second round. That is not to say he is a bad player but if you want to be a starter in MLS you need to be able to compete against players of this calibre. If Orlando was bringing in a DP CB veteran Bundesliga player or something similar then we would be right to worry about him not being able to compete.

I don't want to start a debate but living in Istanbul would be, for me, a no-brainer vs living in Florida.

As someone who lived in Florida for 3 years I completely agree. Florida is not an attractive place at all once when gets out of the beach resorts and gated communities. Even with the unstable political situation in Turkey and Syria I think Florida is a lot more dangerous place to live than Turkey.

I highly doubt he regrets his move. He has probably earned more and developed more as a player even if he has not played as much as he would like. I would say at worst he took a high risk gamble and broke even. He is still young and could still get another chance in the near future and have success at Besiktas. If another striker gets injured he could easily get some starts and if he gets hot could still end up being a success there. And if that doesn't work out he will still at least get a loan or transfer to another club.

I mean he does need playing time but like he shouldn’t be there over Akindeke for example.

Tabla has close to 1000 minutes of playing time this season even if most of it has been at 3rd division level and he hasn't played much since his switch to 2nd division. Not to mention that he is in the system of arguably the top team in the world. Akindele scored a nice goal in his first game with Orlando but otherwise had a fairly quiet game and is coming off a poor season and has only played 98 minutes so far in the season although that is also due to the MLS season just starting. Plus his main position is centre forward even if he can also play on the wings and it seems like that is where Orlando intends to play him. I hope he gets his career back on track and starts challenging for selection as a centre forward where his competition will be Cavallini, Larin, hopefully a resurgent AJH and possibly David though he looks like he will be a number 10. I don't see any reason to consider Akindele an obvious selection though that should definitely be chosen over Tabla. At 19 playing in the second division in Spain (apparently the strongest second division in the world according to some Voyageurs LOL) and in the Barcelona system I still see him as a much more attractive prospect and deserving of selection than a guy turning 27 in a couple of weeks even if he is able to get his career back on track (although in a weird coincidence they actually share a birthday so Tabla will turn 20 on the same day - March 31st).

  21. Sometimes teams do not have the money to promote and can risk bankruptcy if the added revenues of playing in the 1st division do not match the added expenditures especially if the team already has some debt. I don't know the specifics of Albacete but it could be the case that the team does not really want to promote. They aren't necessarily throwing games but they may also not be giving 100% to win promotion.
