I know, even if he plays he’s definitely not close to a call up.

Borjan, Crepeau, Thomas, Leutwiler, Irving, Roberts, Carducci, Busti, Breza, Gomes... All guys I’d take ahead of him.

I’ve seen him play but he’s 23 and was an amateur until this contract.

If he plays in top flight Egypt, after 4 games he is ahead of half the players you name, maybe more.

I can't for the life of me figure out what team he is with, what sort of updates are these?

  2. Nice little post, I won't quote it though, too long, but nice story and quite interesting.

I can also quote a few teams on the modest end of the spectrum that have out-possessed Barcelona, like Rayo Vallecano a few years ago.

It's a strategy, like any other. It is important to know what the fans want, if they enjoy watching it, since some fan bases actually get a kick of their team dominating the ball, regardless of the score. What do VPS fans want to see? Maybe they don't care to have low possession as long as they win, which was what Whitecaps fans were being fed as the principle. for the last few years.

The other thing is if your club is daring enough to play the academy teams like the first team. If they do that, with the u-14s playing possession as well, at least you are going to be doing the kids a service and maybe develop some nice talent for Finland.

  3. Not sure where to put this but read it in Spanish press today, small bit of Canada content.

    Article related in English: https://business.financialpost.com/pmn/business-pmn/us-investors-take-over-spanish-2nd-division-club-reus

Edit just found the official statement:

    http://www.cfreusdeportiu.com/noticia/20190124230045

Quote: "14 players have been identified and invited to having interest from Division 1 or 2 and having relationships with the Onolfo family to come on free transfer or loan from US, UK, Romania, France and Canada."

The new American ownership group of Reus, a Spain 2nd division team, is trying to sort things out to save the club, the jist is they have not been paying and some players are able to get out of their contracts because of it, they are actually down to a pro squad of 12 plus reserve team. But in a statement today from the new owners, one of whom is Clifton Onolfo who owned USL 2 team Conneticut Wolves, they say they are ready to bring in 14 new players to replace those who have been freed of their contracts, including 1st and 2nd division players from US, UK, Canada and Romania.

So that got me thinking: who would be the Canadian or Canadians they are speaking of?

Reus is a very modest club in a Catalan town with money down the road from Tarragona, also in 2nd,  but has a small stadium, not big enough to be in 2nd tier in principle. They were probably paying close to the minimum salary for Spanish 2nd, just under 90 thousand euros a year. The debt is not huge, 5 million euros, but it's pretty clear the former owner mismanaged terribly.

Geesh you are hard on a guy.  He got 9 goals in 27 games just 2 years ago in the scot premier league.  If we are supposed to be excited about Stphen Hoyle and the Swedish kid at York, why wouldnt Haber be considered a star??  He scored some beauts for Dundee over the years.  And it sounds like his wages werent very high so it wont be much of a pay cut.  Much more excited about that than some mid 30's chilean.

If you watch him play, he does the right things. His movement is good, he can hold up, he is experienced. So he is not a top flight killer, fine. I don't even know if he has much of a shot.

I think if someone picks him up for CPL, depending of course how he is coached and the team is asked to play, he will be a bonus for the team. I just don't know if he'd want to go back to Canada so much to make 60 grand, which would be slim. I doubt he'd rate 70k the way we are hearing salaries line up. Maybe set him up with bonuses for performance.

Gowtham Kirupakaran has signed with Real Aviles in the Spanish 4th tier.

    https://t.co/P1OwXPGHLy

He is a 20 year old from the Toronto area, and he played a few minutes in League 1 Ontario this past summer.

    https://www.league1ontario.com/roster_players/26040869

He subbed on m. 89 in their 2-0 loss to Club Siero before Xmas, the only game he could play so far. I think that is a good club for a kid of his age to develop in, and the football in the Asturias region is quite competitive.

Avilés is fair-sized industrial city and really should be a better team, as the football tradition is there, but they have not figured as an important club for decades now. After financial ups and downs it is currently being run by an association of supporters, which is interesting. The stadium holds 5400:

He refused a call-up to the U17 declaring Canada a 'Kick and run' nation. Now he is 20 playing 4th division. The top division has 20, 2nd 22, then 3rd 80. So thats 122 club above 4th level. In the 4th tier there are 360 teams! His loan club is below mid-table so ranked lets say for sake of round number 178 out of 360. That would mean he is turning out for the 300th best club in Spain

If aligning with England that would land them in the 8th tier.

Novelda is traditionally a third tier team, as is Alcoyano. Now he has been loaned to La Nucia, another in the same division in the Valencia Community, but is playing for their B team, in 6th tier, see his Instagram acct: https://www.instagram.com/_chaimroserie/

We have actually already had our chance to slag the kid for the exact reasons you are saying, his comments about Canada. What's worse is that he hardly plays, even where he is.

As for your comments about 4th tier Spain, just remember: Piette played for Canada while in a team in Tercera, and Canada is not 8th tier. Fisk went from that level to Edmonton, and excelled,  Edmonton was not 8th tier level. Pedro Rodriguez and Sergio Busquets were brought up by Guardiola directly from that same level to first team play at Barça. Some major footballing nations have quality in lower tiers,  I know a player signed  from Tercera in Spain into 2nd div Poland for example.

Chaim, however, is actually in 6th tier and does not want to play for us, so great for him.

Newbie here to international football, how much would someone get paid to play in a Hungary 3rd tier league?  Croatia 3rd tier?  Thanks.

Most likely lower than Canadian minimum wage, sorry to say.

If it were not for an apartment from the club, most would not be able to do it.

Only exceptions are those clubs who have money and/or history and fan base, and are trying to promote for sure into the 2nd tier.

Most 2nd tiers in Europe pay a proper salary, most third tiers apart from say the better 6-7 leagues are very tight financially.

Word is he is playing in 3rd division in Cyprus, and is pleased with the change, but I do not know the team yet.

Got it, thanks to a fellow Voyageur. Andrew Lebre is playing for Ethnikos Assias in 3rd tier Cyprus. They play in a fairly large stadium in Nicosia, 16,000 capacity, and relegated last year. Here is the pic from his Instagram page. Cyprus just started the season last week.

The Instagram page of Andrew Lebre has just changed, now appearing a reference to Nicosia, Cyprus. That is new, no other news I can find though.

Edit: was checking Cypriot sites in my best Greek and I see on August 31 an international transfer request for him was put in from the Cypriot federation to the Portuguese, as I believe Lebre has a Portuguese passport.

re-edit: I have a suspicion he could be going to 2nd division PAEEK.

Chaim Roserie is on loan to Novelda CF in the Spanish 4th tier.

Thanks, as usual Toje is amazing. As someone mentioned last year, he has stated he is more interested in playing for the States, I don't know his current thinking. The press here calls him Canadian.

I don't think he got any minutes after signing for Alcoyano last year midseason, I may be wrong; he is young still and had problems with papers as well. Maybe at Novelda, a division lower, he'll do better, the team is strong enough to fight for a promotion into 2B. They are in the Valencia region group, the level is high.

Novelda, oddly enough, merged with another club this summer, liquidated itself, and then the Spanish Federation disallowed the move and basically obliged them to continue competing.

Yes, good find. I saw Socuellamos a few years ago in a promotion tie vs. Europa to go up to third tier, where they were for 3 years, then dropped again. Only reason I know them, as the town and area are relatively unknown. Very physical team I recall, not too technical, a lot of veterans. Maybe they've changed.

Last year a stoppage time penalty against impeded them becoming a 3rd tier team again, they tend to get good results and are vying for a promotion again.

They play in Group 18 of Spanish Tercera, 4th tier, which is the group of teams from La Mancha. Not a very strong division as the population is fairly low out there.

  13. Manny Aparicio has signed with San Roque de Lepe of Spanish 4th tier. That is Division 10 of Tercera, in western Andalusia.

If you recall he was released by Izarra in early July.

That is strawberry country in southern Spain. From what they say he has been on trial for a while, and was signed this week, did not appear on the roster for last week's season opener.

I forgot you're kind of a dick. My bad.

You think a young pro should sit out a year but I'm a dick, OK.

You are not even on topic for the thread you're trolling it.

The point is the whole CPL as the only and best future for a player who is without a team is ridiculous. And especially when he was released the previous day.

A d4 sub..not interesting for Canada..Haiti looks very weak right now

Actually Miki is not a sub, he's a starter, and scoring and assisting. He's playing at the same level as Piette when he was being called into Canada MNT at first. Besides, he has experience in 3rd tier Spain, and he's 21. I think it's a loss, he's a tricky and very high pace winger with a big upside, he was in the youth system of a La Liga team until a long injury.

His father is Haitian, his mother, I believe, from Guadalupe. His father was reffing in France when he was a teen, so he has a French passport. The Haitian squad has not been released, but he must have said something to the Spanish press. If they show well vs. Argentina he'll get better offers.

  16. Mikaël Cantave has accepted a full senior call-up for Haiti, who are playing a friendly vs. Argentina in the Bombonera at the end of the month. We could take this as a definitive choice not to play for Canada, I wonder if he felt slighted by not being called into our recent camp. Otherwise he has never responded to them and has always played for us.
