David Beckham's impact on TFC is minimal at best. They had already sold over 7,000 season tickets before his announced move and it's not like sales were slowing. Did sales speed up? Sure, but there was already a buzz about this team. It was a success from day one, with or without Beckham.
Also, Toronto is definitely the only city in Canada with immigrants. Everywhere else is 1952.

Further to @ReedOnTheGrand's explanations of stadiums. I present another amazing opportunity in KW:
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/schneiders-kitchener-sold-auburn-development-1.4318369
This is probably my favourite option for a site. The site will take years of brownfield development before it can be fully usable for residential and Auburn itself is known for taking awhile to get things going (see the Arrow Lofts and Barrelyards Development). At the back of the site is a railroad track, which also won't be great for residential but perfect for something like a stadium, where a train coming by once and awhile is fine. It's close to downtown and right on the LRT line. It's also close to the Iron Horse trail and a favourite Grand River Union brewery, Together We're Bitter Brewing Co-op.
I think a modular stadium could pop up in this location very quickly. It would be a great way segue for Auburn and fantastic for city access.

Sounds like he was playing one city off against the other, but Saskatoon now has the inside track:
    http://thestarphoenix.com/sports/local-sports/groups-pro-soccer-push-includes-downtown-stadium-for-saskatoon
...He estimates it would take nine to 10 months to build the new stadium, and he envisions playing games at Prairieland in 2019 and 2020 before moving into a new facility in 2021, he said...Belan is also talking with Regina about putting the team there. One of his ideas was to use a large portion of the old Taylor Field, including the west grandstand. That would have saved him money in stadium construction, and the city money in demolition. The proposal didn’t pan out...“Back in July, when we were still evaluating both cities, it was really a coin toss,” Belan added. “At this point, the differentiating factor is that we’re close to a commercial agreement on Prairieland. We think that’s a suitable facility to introduce the project...We’re getting to a point where we need to start making some commitments, financially and otherwise, for being in the league in 2019. We think Prairieland, assuming we can come to a final agreement with them, would give us a viable venue to start in 2019.” ...

Since there's been no official movement but lots of argument here do you non KW people want me to give you a tour of the rumored downtown locations? I've got nothing to do so i figured I could show you guys the locations, with the amount of work done there recently google maps/earth doesn't show what it actually looks like.

Alright, I made a bit of a different video than what I originally said, however I still plan to do what I said I would. Sadly the video quality isn't great but I'll work on that for the main video I planned(I think I'll do it friday or next week). Anyways it should be up tonight and I'll throw up a link, hope it's informative/interesting.

I've wondered about the Litts - Michael owns Vidyard, loves the area.
The other would be Ted Livingston. Own's KIK. Worth over 1b. Also a massive area booster.

Assuming none of Edmonton, Calgary, or Ottawa are not in the league at launch.
Paul Beirne made two very definitive statements just two weeks ago in Regina. He said the probability of a 2018 half season kicking off one week after the 2018 World Cup with six teams is better than 50% and that they're pretty sure who teams 7 & 8 will be (Sask being 7). He also said that if they feel they need to wait until 2019 to get it right they will.
I don't know if people on here have noticed, but there are several individuals who are in regular contact with people involved with the actual teams who have either completely abandoned this forum or have significantly reduced the amount they post. And I know from talking with some of them that they are quite fed up with the speculation based on nothing when there is real information out there for people willing to look. When someone posts that they have known personally for 20yrs one of the Halifax City Counsellors but that person's information is basically ignored, it should be little surprise that many in-the-know have said 'screw this'. Apologies for being so blunt folks but many of you should listen instead of constantly pulling out your own personal little hobby horses and riding them into the ground.

Sure, it's the last place "American" companies set up shop. It's usually the first one European companies enter - especially because of the port, and the impact of the Montréal market nationally. I guess that is proving your point, since the CanPL is ostensibly an Anglophone company with very little understanding of Québécois (or even Acadian or Franco-Ontarien) business and culture.
However, it's not impossible to overcome the gap in soccer. The Ottawa Fury needed to attract some of the ~200,000 French-Canadians in Ottawa to come to their games, and they burned a few bridges early on by characterizing Joseph Montferrand as the Redblacks Mascot. However, the two supporters groups (the Bytown Boys and Stony Monday Riot) have gone out of their way to recruit Francophone supporters, promote French language social media, and fly the Franco-Ontarian flag at events. I will admit, it was mon beau drapeau that made me first attend an event at the stadium. While the experience could absolutely be improved, the announcers go out of their way to announce things in both languages, and their social media being offered in both. They also partnered with 94,5 Unique FM, a Franco-Ontarian radio station to broadcast games live.
This also is not a Québec issue either. Moncton, which is pretty much half and half (with the Acadian portion growing quickly) may struggle to attract Francophones if the Canadian flag is all that is on offer.

Alright, my first time posting as a Voyageur...
Since this is about speculation, one of the things that I'd like to add to the discussion are the revenue numbers in Francophone media. Of the cities mentioned, several are below 500k in terms of population, and some have high unemployment rates and crashing slowing economies. However, in French-Canadian markets (or markets where Francophones constitute a major presence), there are some interesting stats regarding media penetration and competition. I posted this to Twitter about three weeks ago.

These markets all have their own local Radio-Canada affiliate in French (except Kingston, which uses Ottawa's), a population of over 150k and with the exception of Saguenay and St. John's, very strong economies. For example, the current unemployment rate in Québec and Lévis is 5%, lower than the provincial and national average. It also have 8 - 10 major company headquarters in the city. That would make it the biggest and most important market in CanPL to date, if it accepts.
The main bonus though would be the media revenue. Radio-Canada has almost no competition for sports coverage, as Québecor (owners of TVA) make you pay separately for TVA Sports, and RDS (French TSN) is not standard on all packages, and does not cover the Impact at all. However, all French speakers, whether online, via TV or through their car's radio antenna, get Radio-Canada. From a major network perspective as well, Radio-Canada is one of the most watched networks in French markets, with much deeper market penetration than the CBC in English.
Currently, the CanPL has no penetration in French (literally, they haven't even bothered to translate the site... bèn voyons) and Francophones and french-speakers compose 30% of the country, with a population of around 10-million coast to coast. That's the size of Sweden! This is a market that lacks major sports coverage (TVA Sports shows high school sports, and Ultimate Frisbee as actual, legitimate sporting shows) and is ripe for the entry of some anchor teams in French markets.
If Regina is a serious option for the CanPL; I'd like to formally start blustering about three teams in the Québec marketplace; in Québec and Lévis (Stade Telus), Laval and the Rive-Nord (Collège Montmorency) and Gatineau (Parc Ernest-Gaboury - current home of FC Gatineau). Moncton is already here, so I'll skip Stade de Moncton.
Each of those cities currently has a PLSQ team, an academy structure, and a stadium, and very little media competition.

I've been pushing the idea of using the Field at (now destroyed) centennial stadium. It still has a grass field and is right beside the AUD(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitchener_Memorial_Auditorium_Complex) so there's lots of parking and it should be zoned properly already. It's also owned by the city and they've been trying to figure out what to do with it. It's not too far from a LRT station(about 5-10 minute walk), will be on the new Ottawa express bus line starting 2018 and is right off the expressway. Next time there's some sort of meeting it should hopefully be brought up. @Levi Oakey
The city of Kitchener has also really been trying to fix the stiga around the downtown experience so having people organize large events close by the Kitchener downtown centre with be good for foot traffic(hitting a pub downtown then taking transit down to the stadium). It will also be a good advertisement for LRT which with all the controversy the region could really use.

Just wanted to reiterate what a good event it was last night in Regina. Outside of proprietary information about other owners — which, of course, needs to remain quiet — I thought Paul, Lee and Joe were very forthcoming with their answers. In a CanPL evolution that is plagued with rumours, it was great to have a chance to hear honest talk about where the league is at, and what the owners hope to achieve.

Thanks to Rob and everyone who came out last night.

I would suggest starting even smaller. Like the Franz-Kremer Stadion:

Seat's 1900, has the standing ring around to make it more explandable. Any of those sides could be upgrade as the stands fill.

The average ticket price for Ottawa Fury games in their last year of NASL was around $25. They averaged about 5K not including the free Fury Fanatic kids tickets. They were losing money so they dropped to USL and shed the NASL level salaries. If Beirne is saying they only need 5-6K in ticket sales to turn a profit AND have a salary cap in the $1.5-2 million range, then there has to be a TV deal in there somewhere because otherwise the franchises aren't going to last very long. They're going to need at least a $10 million a year deal from the CBC to help subsidize those player salaries for about  $800K/yr to 12 teams

Piette has made some mistakes, I am sure he will make more, but he has had a great first 2 games and it is awesome to see him improving!  Is kind of crazy reading those posts that people wanted to essentially roll him out to the pastures.  Criticizing a specific skill set or play is fine, but some of those posts, dayum lol.
He is a young 20 something year old Canadian, that took a chance and moved to Europe as a teenager in an attempt to improve his game, seems to be working,   good on him.
Don't worry about the haters bro, know that the mass majority of Canadians and 95%+ of Voyageurs will always support you and take joy in seeing you improve! Keep up the great work and keep playing with that passion and fire every time you rep the red & white.

His start in yesterday's match was less surprising to me than the fact he was included in the squad at all. I suspect OZ had a very specific job in mind for that position and Kaye had the physical attributes for it. I wouldn't be surprised, even if we play a game or two beyond the group stage, that those are his only minutes of the tournament.
