    TFC 2018

Besides the injuries, which are the biggest difference between last year and this year, the two things that I've noticed are: 1. Last year you knew TFC was never out of the game. Even if they were down a goal or two, you knew TFC had the skill and the mindset to still end up with a result. That is not the case this year. If they went down a goal or two, there was a very good chance that the game was lost. 2. The amount of dumb mistakes that resulted in goals being scored against them was ridiculously high. The defensive third has been a calamity of errors. And if you give up a dumb goal and go down, it forces you to open up and the other team can defend and counter.

FIFA 19 Player ratings - Canada

I remember there was 1 year when there were an abnormal amount of Canadian inform players. I had my sneaking suspicion that who was ever in charge of informs had a soft spot for the Canadian national team. ** I did a quick check, it was 2011** 80 De Rosario (80 pace) 79 Hoilett (86 pace) 74 De Guzman (82 pace CM) 74 Josh Simpson 73 Jackson (83 pace) You could play a 41212 with a gold or silver at every position. You could absolutely destroy anyone you matched up against because your star rating was so low and that year was all about the pace of your team.

FIFA 19 Player ratings - Canada

I used to play a lot of FUT and I don't know if a season ever started with 3 gold Canadian players. That being said, having Hoilet, Arfield, and Davies all playing on the left side really limits your options.

US Virgin Islands-Canada match thread (R)

In a tournament this wide open and where your goals plus minus could potentially be a tie breaker, you have no choice but to run up the score. You being nice and taking your foot off the gas at 5-0 could bite you in the end if someone you end up tied with didn't stop and won their game 10-0. If CONCACAF doesn't want teams to run up the scores, then they will have to change the structure of the league.

    TFC 2018

If I recall correctly, when he came charging out on that play he didn't even make a convincing punch for the ball. He did some kind of half punch half catch and was not close enough to the ball to do either because 2 or 3 players had a better position then he did. Inconsistent play and decision making is not what you want from your keeper. The risk/reward on that charge was not great.

    Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies has the potential to be to soccer what Steve Nash was to basketball.

    2018 Voyageurs Cup

I don't see how TFC doesn't come down hard on this. They can't just say "boys will be boys" and move on. Random out of control fires started by supporters groups won't help TFC sell tickets. If you risk their bottom line, expect to get dealt with asap.

Have to agree with Unnamed Trialist. The teams all play in major North American cities and therefore have major city cost of living expenses. And they pay some of their players 55,000 per year. I get that no one is forcing these guys to play and they are "living the dream", but you can't tell me that bumping up the minimum salary is going to bankrupt the league.

There are now two things that can stop the Germans in Russia: The winter and South Koreans.

    TFC 2018

I've never fully understood why TFC just gave up on Irwin. In the year he started, I don't ever recall thinking "TFC lost that game because of Irwin." He also came with a pretty good MLS resume. I realize that Bono became the starter due to an injury to Irwin, but Bono was not great in those first couple of games and let in a couple of howlers. He still commits the occasional brain cramp, especially when it comes to some gaffs with his distribution that have ended with the ball back in TFC's net. However, Irwin was never given a chance to get his job back. Now I don't see the team practice every day, so maybe TFC sees something in training that the every day fan doesn't see. I've also thought that maybe they didn't think there was much of a difference between Irwin and Bono, so they might as well go with Bono because he is cheaper, and that matters in a salary cap league. Bono has made some great saves but if your keeper isn't making some great saves, it may be time to find a new keeper.
  11. I enjoy firing a gun off in the air from time to time when I am feeling particularly celebratory. I really feel like it adds to the drama and the loud noise of the gun shot lets everyone know how excited I really am. I only fire a hand gun though. Firing an AK47 would be too dangerous. I also make sure I am at least 10 feet away from any children. Responsibility and safety first! My alcohol consumption is also strictly limited to 3 beers (self-enforced). The people around me sometimes look scared or worried when I do it, but secretly they all acknowledge I am adding to the atmosphere.

    TFC 2018

I don't know if I've ever seen a game where at team claws back from 3 goals down, ties it up, goes down again, ties it up again, and then almost gives up another goal in the dying seconds. If that DC striker hadn't wiffed, TFC still loses that game. I think the TV announcers summed it up best with 2 paraphrased quotes: "Does anyone want to play defense tonight?" "There's still 4 minutes left to go in the game. Probably enough time for 4 or 5 more goals."
  13. 8 years from now we can all come back to this thread and have a good laugh at how far off these predictions would be. How many people would have predicted Davies progression 4 years ago let alone 8.

MLS 2001 Allstar Jersey - Autographed

If this is the wrong place to put this kind of post, my apologies. This is not intended to be some kind of advertisement. I know there are some jersey experts on this forum and I am looking to borrow some of your expertise. I have a 2001 MLS East Allstar jersey that was signed by the entire East roster which I won in a contest. Biggest names are probably Tim Howard and Brian McBride. Its been sitting in my basement for a long time and the ink on some of the signatures is slowly starting to fade. Is this thing worth anything? I really know nothing about this type of thing (which is why it has been sitting in my basement).

U.S. Virgin Islands vs Canada Sunday September 9th

Bring Rickets so that he can score 4 goals, allowing him to further climb up the national team goal scoring chart, and collectively driving a portion of the V's completely nuts.

    TFC 2018

I get that a healthy TFC roster is still a forced to be reckoned with and that there still are a lot of games to be played, but at some point TFC needs to start picking up points. All these points dropped at home are starting to get concerning.

    TFC 2018

Agree with this. Having Bradley play CB weakens both our defense and our midfield. I don't know why Mavinga and Haglund didn't start against Dallas.
  18. From the women's games that I have watched, the weakness of the keepers always seems to be their ability to cover the top half of the net. Lots of long range shots seem to float over the keeper, likely due to the average female keeper being shorter and not being able to jump as high when compared to the average male keeper. Since female strikers can kick just as high as their male counterparts and the net is the same size for women as it is for men, this part of the net always seems vulnerable even at the highest levels of the women's game. All the power to her on this endeavour, but I think Labbe would likely be in tough as her opponents would look to exploit this.

That last minute chance for Delgado is going to eat at him for the rest of his career.

Oh my goodness, Delgado. Hopefully TFC pulls off the pks and that becomes something they can joke about.

    MLS VAR

I think fans across the globe share your opinion, regardless of the league. Even more so when the team they support is the team aggrieved. Soccer, by its nature, is a tough sport to ref. The playing surface and the amount of players are both large, and the game attracts physical contact by opponents (this isn't volleyball). Basketball and hockey both have much smaller surfaces and amount of players, and have roughly the same amount of officials. American football practically has as many refs as a team has players on the field. And when you add the fact that soccer has a culture that accepts fooling the ref as a valid tactic, then things get even tougher. Its one thing to have your local beer league ref make a bad call because he is woefully out of shape and doesn't leave the centre of the field. Its another when you have two teams full of professionals playing soccer at high speed, with high levels of aggression, and will take every opportunity to con the ref. I think VAR is great.

    MLS VAR

With video replay becoming so common in all sports, I have no problem with VAR as long as it it is used in a timely fashion. Penalty kicks and red cards are both potentially game changing events in a soccer game. If I have to wait 1 or 2 minutes to make sure the call is correct, I'm all for it.

TFC: MLS Cup or Champions League?

In theory, all TFC has to do is make the playoffs and they will still have just as good a shot as repeating. I would be more annoyed if I was a fan of another team who finishes high in the standings and they are "rewarded" with playing TFC in the first round because TFC finished lower due to the amount of points that they threw away at the beginning of the season during their chase for the Champions League trophy.

    TFC 2018

If its goal difference, then TFC wins. They were +2 while Chivas was +1.
  25. AvroArrow

    TFC 2018

How did that cost them the right to host the 2nd leg? What stat decides that? TFC advanced 4-2 while Chivas only advanced 1-0.
