In my opinion Arfield should wear the captain's armband on Sunday!
Who else agrees or thinks it should be someone else?

He's our best player , plays in one of best leagues in world. He seems like a true leader on field and off. Has alot of experience. I don't care if he's only been with the program for a bit, he has  embraced the program and he's committed! . Arfield should be Canada's Captain if Hutch is not there.

Congrats Piette. I like when Canadians play on our MLS teams, and I like being able to watch CMNT players play, rather than just hearing someone say how many starts they are getting in a league that quite honestly I'll never make the time and effort to watch. So for those reasons I like this move. I hope he gets plenty of playing time so I don't regret saying I'm happy about the move.

Yeah, from what I understand he is a super shy guy, so his delivery on these quotes might have to do with inexperience and a generally timid nature. I presume if he was being coached on what to say, they would have been telling him to say: "I made a mistake. I should never have done that. I am truly sorry. I don't do things like this and I never will again. I will work damned hard to regain the trust of my family, teammates and fans in Orlando and across Canada." He sort of said that, but also made a hash of it. The fact that he does not really own what he has done is what is alarming, if only because it MIGHT suggest denial and a larger problem. I suspect, however, that the real story is something else, that Larin is a young man who does not yet know how to admit when he is wrong.

I equally can't believe that you don't see why hardcore Canadian footy supporters would be critical of a player who is eligible for Canada, heavily used our Canadian development system, represented Canada at multiple youth levels nationally, yet now feels Ivorian
I am not saying he is making the wrong decision if he chooses to play for IC (though he may be if he ends up not being a regular).  But this is a site where people are emotionally invested in the CMNT.  A player who turns their back on that team can expect to catch criticism.  I have said it before and I will say it again - supporting footy in the way that we do is not a rational venture.  We get worked into a lather watching 11 guys try to kick a fucking balloon into a large onion bag.  Clearly we are here because of passion, not reason.  So if someone abandons the team we love in favour of another, especially when they consumed limited developmental resources in this country, they will be criticized.  That may not make his eventual decision wrong, but is sure as hell is understandable.

It isn't about Montreal.  He only joined them 2 years ago.  It is the Canadian youth development spots he took that people are more annoyed with.  He played with us at the U15, U17, U18, and U20 levels - that is a spot someone else (who aspires to play for this country) could have used to foster their development within the highest level of youth development we have.  If it turns out we were unknowingly training an IC international, then yes, people will be annoyed.
    -----------------------
Look, he will play where he wants.  And of course his self interest dictates that he will use every opportunity he can to advance his career, including participating in national-level youth development opportunities.  And like every other player that has jumped ship, it will be hard for us to claim any sort of "rightness" if he makes a move that ends up substantially improving his career trajectory.  But we don't have to like it, and it is pretty obtuse to expect everyone on here to wish him all the best if he jumps ship and joins the nats of another country.

What is most important is that Larin get some help here. If this was simply a young man being a (dangerous) dumbass, then suspend him at all levels, appropriately, and watch closely that he never does this again.
If he has an addiction, then he needs counselling and ongoing guidance. As well as appropriate suspension. And some compassion.
I hope he was just being a dumbass, for his sake. Easier to smarten up than deal with an addiction or the psychological problems that underlie addiction.
Whatever the case, he is going to have to work hard to get the public to respect him again. I am optimistic that this will be the last dumbass move he makes for a very long time.

    Larin's apology.
Personally I am in favour of his removal from the GC squad along with a statement that Cyle needs time to focus on getting better and reevaluating his decisions, and that he will be welcomed back with open arms after he completes rehabilitation.
There's no excuse for DUI for someone his age, he went through the same Ontario curriculum that I'm sure the rest of the millennials on here did, and there is no way this was an act of stupidity alone. It was both stupid and selfish.
But he seems like the kind of person to be driven to be better every day, and he was lucky enough to have a fork in the road placed in front of him without anyone having to get hurt first. He needs to choose to be better, and I think everyone is better off trying to support that instead of vilifying (as a general statement, not saying this board has been doing that).

The important thing here is that Larin learns from this, and never drives drunk again. Ever. The on-pitch stuff really doesn't matter here. Apologize, accept whatever punishment may come his way, be thankful that no one got hurt in this scenario and ultimately chalk it up to an incredibly poor, and stupid, case of judgement. I don't think this affects his career greatly if this is his one and only offence, but another one, and his career is harpooned.
Personally, I think Larin will be off the Gold Cup roster. If he is entered into a mandatory substance abuse program which has been 3 weeks for other MLS athletes (using CJ Sapong as an example), that means he will be out the day before Canada's opening game. Tough scenario for Zambrano and Canada Soccer, but that's the reality of the situation.

It only takes one day to recover from a hangover really. Thoroughly brush your teeth, scrub your tongue, Neti pot to rinse the nasal cavity, take a good shit, sweat it out the alcohol from the night before and voila, good as new.
Regarding how many drinks he had, he eventually said 2 or 3 Vodka red bulls, which means he probably had 9 or up, the numbers you reference. However, I doubt he has a problem. He was at a club and most likely had bottle service with his friends and what you see in the picture below is probably an accurate depiction of what was on his table that night:

This gentlemen is the clubbing starter kit. You'll be knee high in ladies throughout the night with that next to you. If he pounded back a few too many, I think it was just a testament to the night rather than any underlying problem with booze.
Like Tiger Woods has growing up to do. ;D
This isn't directed at you in particular Jonovision.
However, I just have to say this....what is this the fucking Dubin Inquiry? If this was Altidore, he'd have the whole USMNT (admin, coaching, players and fans) on his side going "Don't worry bro, we got your back. We'll make sure this goes away. We know mistakes happen." However, you'll want to do the oh so Canadian thing by taking a perceived moral high ground and throw our athlete under the bus and ridicule him? You're all wishing punishment on him? Unlike good old Ben, let's not do that this time for Larin's case.
Cyle, brah, if you're reading this thread, you just keep motoring along. You'll get through this and be better than ever.

I think its important to reiterate, since most of the last page has been trying to rationalize this situation, that this is a grown man making somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000 USD a year, who could have called a number of resources for a ride home, but instead decided to drive at twice the legal limit, thereby physically endangering himself, his passenger, and the public. Hell, given the fact that he was driving on the wrong side of the road, who knows what happens if the cop didn't spot him.
No excuses. Take responsibility, take whatever punishments are thrown at you by the CSA/MLS/OCSC and make damn sure this doesn't happen again.

Standard replies to cops, I was driving the speed limit, I had my seat belt on, No you cant search my car, No I wont open my trunk and I havnt been drinking but I smell like booze because I was at a bar.    Cant hold the conversation with the cop against him.
But I hope he pays his fines, loses his license, takes his suspension from the team like a man, does whatever the league says he has to do and learns from this.  You make a mistake, own up to it, make it right, dont do it again and hope it wasnt so bad that you cant be forgiven.  Make sure this is a one time thing and people can be forgiving.  He got so lucky no one got hurt, I got on the wrong side of a boulevard in a strange city once, and it took some quick reactions not to end up in a head on.

I think he simply gets more chances in MLS.

When he gets a handful of chances with Orlando and only scores 1 (like today), people remember the goal, not the missed chances.
When he only gets 1 or 2 chances per game with Canada and doesn't convert, he looks less prolific.
