If I understand this right, La'vere Corbin-Ong will be playing at the highest level of all Canadians in the 3. Liga (along with Hainault)?

So anyways, how about we track some mothafuckin Canadians, shall we?
Canadian-Argentinian MF Miguel Romeo, who played last year with Calgary Foothills, is currently playing with Kultsu FC in the Kakkonen. Along with Calgary Foothills, Romeo has played with Central and St. Anne's in the T&T Premier League, and with Pasaquina in the El Salvadorian Primera Division. You could say he's yo-yo'd in the T&T Premier League or something.
Noticed him as Miguel Romero in the MOACA list. Gave me an excuse to use the words "track some mothafuckin Canadians" and try and re-rail this thread.

Of course Depor is a huge club, just like Stuttgart so I've argued once. However I think Besiktas is the bigger club of the two.
But the original question was about the level. And the competition Deportivo faces is clearly higher-level than Besiktas. You can talk Champions League all you want, fact is the top half of Primera Division IS Champions League level and possible the league as a whole.
Or to put it in Wiki-terms:
    Spanish CL-Victories: 16 (11 runners up)
Turkish CL Victories: 0 (0 runners up)
13 Spanish teams have participated in the modern Champions League, against 5 Turkish clubs. Heck Deportivo participated 5 times since 2000, Besiktas 6 since '97 so that is not even that far apart, whereas it is way harder for a Spanish club to qualify than one of the traditional top-three Istanbul-clubs.

Just to add, obviously Arfield will be our highest level player in this regard.
As a Depor B player Sam is obviously getting paid more than he would at any normal Spanish 4th tier club. But I doubt he is making much more than the MLS minimum. I really don't know but pretty sure.
The advantage for Sam is that if you leave this club you have the pedigree, so it would be reasonable for him to make a move, say to a club in Spanish 2nd division, the only reasonable minimum move in Spain. I think Sam cannot go from here to a third tier anywhere, unless it is well paying like League One.
If we qualify for the Hex and he gets minutes, that takes him a notch up.
With regards to Deportivo, this is a club that has gone further in Europe than any Turkish team, ever, and has some glorious memories, including an incredible quarter final series vs. Milan (4-1 away, 4-0 home). But from over 10 years ago. They were a major importer of Brazilian talent to Europe for a while, like Bebeto and Rivaldo and Ze Roberto, they had top quality European players as well (Dutch striker MaKaay). But their economy went bad and they have suffered for a decade in the new economic model of football.
They have 3-4 defensive mids, all Spanish, one is older but good, Bergantiños, have also sent a kid like Sam up who plays a similar position, Pinchi or something like that. So there is an outside chance of him seeing first team, like early rounds of the Cup. But his job is to get Depor B into a higher division, and if they do that, they'll get a reward the following year, methinks.

Sorry that I've been off the grid for a little while, but the team is keeping the project alive.
    Happy tracking!

It is never nice to see players end their careers early (if that is what he is doing) but he is turning 25 and how much would he be earning in lower division Scandanavia or if he went to USL. Even if he tried out for FCE and made it (which I am not that sure he would) he would be still living 300 kms from his home town and not earning very much. At some point players have to realistically assess their career and take other opportunities if they are available.

It's been a little over 160 days, since about a dozen hard-working volunteers & myself, have made the change from just a simple text list on the first page of the thread, to an ever changing work in progress, accessed by about a dozen people 24/7, to constantly reflect our player movements world wide.
Location here: http://www.thevoyageurs.org/mother-of-all-canadians-abroad-list/ . (Please Note the many Tabs below).
You may not now this, but we have an unbranded URL you can embed or link on your own websites. All I ask in return, is that you please give credit to @Canucks_Abroad , if you decide to use it:

There was a big amount of resistance to this change here on the forum. I'd appreciate some feedback on how people are liking it now that the process has been in action for a good junk of time? Constructive criticism only please.
Also, it is the time of the year, where we should all check our various regions of expertise and see if anything still needs to be updated. I'd appreciate your collective help in identifying mistakes. Just post it here and we will update.
If you want to be part of the independent Canucks Abroad team, ping me via DM and we may be able to facilitate that, depending on the amount of time you can commit to this creative social media experiment.
    Cheers,

Yeah just seems Lübeck is driving a hard bargain. Terek is obviously interested, but unwilling to pay a couple hundred K for a player without any experience. My guess would be they probably sign him in the end.

Have to say, I'm loving what League1 Ontario has brought to the table development wise in its short history. Ewart, Johnathan Grant and Luca Uccello are all examples of young talent who are able to get contracts through showcasing their talents in the league. Hoping we hear that Adonijah Reid has signed somewhere during the course of 2016.

Yes I'd really like to get into this some more, cause I do believe strongly that Germany is a nicer place to stay than Chechnia, (especially for a young football player) but you are right. This is not the place to to it.

Edit: I would like to say this (my original point), if you are a young player, you shouldn't be looking at were you get the biggest paycheck, or what's the biggest club. I don't know a lot of players that were 18 when playing in Russia, before they transferred to, say the EPL or Spain or whatever. If it was me (or if I was advising a player), first become a big player at a small club. That will give you some credit when you do make that leap to a bigger league. Grozny will chew him up and spit him out.

Dunno if he'd be better of in Chechnia than Lübeck, although surely he'll get paid more. Btw Terek Grozny is as dodgy a club as they get, headed by Ramzan Kadyrov. A very controversial "hero of the Russian Federation" considered a criminal by many.
But whatever. The whole controversy in Lübeck apparently was about him transferring internationally as a youth. Which is prohibited (and for good reasons as well). They made the case that he moved to Germany with his dad for other reasons, dad getting a job there. But he earned less than in Canada and his sister and mom stayed in Canada. Now finally he's allowed to pay for them, and he'd bail. I really doubt this is the way he should go about with this, why not play for the small club in a nice country and take the time to develop. He's just 18.

I think you are correct. He's an amiable guy who's always given everything, but lacks quality. We'll see how he'll pan out at FCE, as that is probably where he's going.

Great o see him resurface. You have to hand it to him, he doesn't give up and always seems to find a new club somewhere. All the best to him!

He would be at least a sub (2nd string) on every MLS team and a starter on some. Comparing 2nd and 3rd division Germany to USL and NASL is a joke. Send any of our USL guys to Germany and see if they could even be a reserve on a D3 team. They would have a hard time even being a starter in the Regionnalligas.

If he becomes the second goal it's not a good move IMO. Better tot get some games under your belt especially as a goalkeeper. But if he starts or at least get's the chance to challenge the nr. 1, nice upward move. Time will tell.
I was checking Regionalliga-games (Stanese is back from injury) and I noticed Lucas Menz was playing for Nord-Ost division side Viktoria Berlin. It was his 4th start this season. It's not a strong division nor is Viktoria a strong club, but at least he's playing. Also, living in Berlin is probably not too bad either.
Edit: here's an article about Menz on the clubs website:
    http://www.viktoria-berlin.de/aktuell/news/meldung/2015/11/06/lucas_menz_vom_bieberfluss_zum_teltowkanal/
It doesn't say to much, a bit about his history (born in Frankfurt, then moved to Canada with his English dad and German Mother), that he could have signed an extension in Offenbach but that he wanted to be the first keeper somewhere. After Viktoria's #1 took on an administrative role, Viktoria 1889 needed a first goalkeeper. Two days after he signed with them he played his first game. It didn't go too well but he redeemed himself in the next matches. Trainer says he's an upgrade to the team.
