ESG Shawn got a reaction from Oranje in Cavalry FC launch/2019 off season thread
I don't disagree with you on this point.
Perhaps I'm in a bit of a an echo chamber (I work for one of the larger non O&G companies in the city, and excitement for the Cavs at work is surprisingly high), but that being said, today, you can get season tickets for under $20/match.
Considering all the competing choices for your entertainment dollar in this city, $20 to get you in the door for professional sports is fairly priced IMO (and comparable across the league), even in Calgary's current economic state. Again, this is strictly talking about the cheapest seats.
It's the rest of the stadium that is problematic, and I agree with your sentiments. I just feel like people see the initial sticker shock of the overall pricing (justifiably so) and it's too late to capture them with the $20 seats, as they are already turned off the product.

This is true, however (even as an Eddies supporter living on YYC), there are a bunch off affordable seats available. More than a bunch.
It's easy to pile on regarding the ridiculous prices, it's been beaten to death. As Calgarians, let's fill ALL the appropriately priced seats, show the club that they made a mistake in pricing, and hope they revisit when they see that packed corners and ends and tumbleweeds in the middle isn't a good look to display to the rest of the country.

Someone posted an analysis earlier, half of the most expensive Officers club seasons are sold, and they account for over ~60% of the total season seat revenue.

You bet, I already have them. My Cavs membership number is in the double digits.

ESG Shawn reacted to Cheeta in CONCACAF Nations League - Venue Discussions
The CPL is as much a Canada Soccer venture as a private enterprise, or feels like it at least so if these fixtures get pointed in the general direction of CPL venues I wouldn't be surprised.
BMO Field is, and should be, the hands down favourate regardless. I actually quite like Saputo Stadium and if CPL is exploring opportunities in Montreal...
Vancouver is out. No. If the 'Caps will put up with that surface God Bless 'em but until BC Place takes their footie responsibilities a little more seriously they shouldn't be allowed to abuse our National Team players anymore. Somebody tell me a re-lay is scheduled for sooner rather than later. Please.

Fuck BC place and the bouncy trash turf. We're no longer playing with low-league-trying-to-get-a-contract players. We have quality players that play on grass pitches.
(Side note... Why can't BC place have grass again?)
If turf isn't a factor in selecting the venue, then bring the game somewhere it hasnt been... Like the Mosaic in SK or IGF in Winnipeg.
Ultimately its BMO or Saputo for me.

I also hate how the ball plays. Watching Sunday's match again, you see some bounces that would never happen on grass, and it appears to play quite fast (i.e. balls chipped over the top leading our pacey wingers never seem to slow down)

Because it is terrible. It really is. I hate watching games on it, and I cringe watching our national team players on it.

Spruce Meadows would be the perfect ground to host a CanMNT match against a minnow, like French Guiana, in the future.
Grass pitch, direct flights to Europe, and the ability to sell out (hopefully) vs a smaller opponent all are positives for Spruce Meadows.

During the Al Classico Prospects series in the fall last year, the camera was set up on the players bench side, facing the main grandstand. The main grandstand (and the south stand for that matter) did not exist at that time, and the ground still looked brilliant. With the new main stand, and the south supporters end, it will look incredible
Check out the following video for highlights - you'll get a feel for how the stadium is laid out (FFWD to 2:05 for match highlights).
Perhaps the only gripe is that the camera angle is a bit too low - hopefully MediaPro can assist with that.

Looking ahead to next summer, it looks like the oft-rumoured joint CONCACAF+COMNEBOL tournament has some legs again. This time, it's being pushed ahead by US Soccer - perhaps some.more legitimacy this time around?

ESG Shawn reacted to Obinna in Ballou Tabla
Man I would absolutely love Tabla to get a first team sniff this season. It would be a long short, but you can see how it could happen given the injuries.
Imagine, in the same season, Canada has an 19 year old debut for Barcelona and an 18 year old debut for Bayern Munich. That would be absolutely epic.

I just want to say that I've found some of the comments here rather odd, in relation to his debut. He was positionally very disciplined, he fit in naturally with teammates, there were no confusions, he was playing vs. a team sitting back, and even double teaming him (in fact all serious teams have a mid tracking back alongside a fullback to cover an attacking wing , only Whitecaps under Robbo could never bother with such an idea). His passing was quite precise, he found the right lines of pass. He took on defenders a few times.
I can frankly say that Dembele at Barça took twenty games to get even close to the image of tactical order and strong ball criteria we saw with that Davies debut. Now I now that he is ideally a "havoc" player, someone who breaks down a defensive structure and does so in a disorderly way, but you cannot be in that mode permanently. You have to choose the right moment, otherwise the defender takes 4 steps back and your options beating him drop dramatically. The day he is on the pitch and they go up a goal, which they usually do, and the rival has to come out of their shell, his counter-attack options with rise.
For me it was an exceptional start and anyone who thinks it was just mediocre has probably not seen too many 18 year olds debut in friendlies for world class teams.

Because it's fun to speculate. I'm going to guess Oliver Minatel because of the Martin Nash/Ottawa Fury connection.
