i sat on this for a week, after turning down approaches from Porto and a few premier league clubs after a chat with Klopp Liam decided to sign a new long term contract and head out on Loan to Kilmarnock..,Really happy and excited for the opportunity for Liam...Here's to him going and smashing up the SPL!!! Buzzing!!! Sent from a hotel in Kilmanock!!!!

So a bit of an update. This experience has been exactly what Liam needed. Scotland has been a blast, he was thrown right in but hit the ground running. He's now had two really good first team substitute appearances and is really growing as a player. It's the small things you don't get from youth football. The day to day competition and struggle of working towards trying to get that starting spot... being around pros who can help you with the details.. training for an opponent.. Liam is hungry and happy!! Liam has come into a very good settled team but the manager Steve Clarke seems to have faith in him as he has thrown him into both games where he has come on and made a real impact and has been unlucky to not get his first goal. Big game on Saturday vs his former coach Stevie G and Rangers on Saturday!!! It won't be easy but nothing worth doing is and nothing good comes out of being comfortable...Very happy with his loan move

    CPL TV Contract

I won't pretend I understand all the nuance, or that I have any idea how I am going to actually watch a CPL game in 2 months. But a global media company just spent $200M on our fucking league. That is massive financial stability for the league, and the kind of investment that guarantees mediaPRO will do their best to get eyeballs watching our league. Some may be frustrated about the lack of detail re actual broadcasts but man, this is massive. Like game changing. Literally. Pretty chuffed.

I just sent this to the CSA: “Dear CSA, First, I am a lifelong supporter of Canadian soccer. I am deeply grateful to the CSA for your role in the growth of the Voyageurs Cup, and the creation of the CPL. But the reason I am writing to you now is that I am perplexed by your amateurish and senseless decision to award the first ever Canadian spot in the Concacaf League to one of FC Edmonton, Forge FC, ot Valour FC when there are seven Premier League clubs. None of them deserves this silly and frankly outrageous level of arbitrary and capricious favouritism. If you were pressed into making a quick decision, as I suspect was the case, then why didn’t you simply draw one of the seven CPL clubs at random? Everyone would’ve accepted that process as transparent and fair, but instead you have alienated and outraged the fans of the four other CPL clubs, myself included. Yes, the three privileged clubs from whom you will select the 2019 Canadian representative in the Concacaf League were the first to sign onto the new CPL project, but the four other clubs are founding members also. Your decision to grant those three clubs special seeding in the Voyageurs Cup seems unfair on its face, but isn’t it reward enough for their being ‘first’ among the first seven clubs? I urge you to reverse this nonsensical and irrational decision immediately. I urge you to conduct a transparent draw from among all seven CPL clubs. Fairness, rule of law, and transparency are hallmarks of our Canadian way, and this action that you have taken lacks in all three.” I urge all Voyageurs to express their displeasure to the CSA directly, as soon as possible.

The article was just updated with the following: Editors note: In a subsequent email to Sportsnet, the CPL confirmed that in addition to the roster requirements mentioned above by David Clanachan that another rule mandates that a minimum of three domestic players on each team must be under the age of 21 AND those players must play a minimum of 1,000 minutes per season. That's a bit of a change. Definitely working on development of young players. I think this works as extra push to keep on some of the U-Sports draftees beyond training camp. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Could be. My source was being cagey and I got no details beyond the $$ amount which I understood was "the deal" for the CanPL. I'm just sitting here in Victoria stunned by the size, scope, and partner of the deal, after already being floored by the signing of Marcel de Jong. If this doesn't shut up the doubters, they are just trolls.

Scott scored the only goal for Klagenfurt and played 90 minutes. The game can be watched on You tube. Easy access through the Sturm Graz Facebook page.

Dude, go away. Seriously leave this section of the forum. You are getting more crotchety every day we get closer to kick off and spaming every thread with needless negative conjecture. I'm not even sure if you sleep because you can seemingly shit on the CPL around the clock. Somebody has a positive comment? You are there instantly to piss in their corn flakes, 24/7. This league is happening, it's going to be whatever it is and we will embrace it because its local Canadian focused football. Just go away. Thank you.

As has been mentioned, as much as we want to criticize some of the blurry bits around today's major announcements, and the absence of some anticipated details regarding others, in the end it all boils down to one simple fact. The world's largest automotive manufacturer has made a corporate decision to attach their brand to the CPL. Fu'k me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU74A8RCYPs Was just watching a video of FC Midtjylland and was surprised that venue only holds 11,800 people. The noise level trumps anything I have seen in MLS minus a packed Saputo maybe. Scale this baby anywhere from 12,000 to 16,000 seats and you will have a blue print for the first permanent SSS built for a Canadian CPL club. Looks expandable to if need be afterwards.

I just need to say how amazing it is to see the avalanche of player signing announcements, the release of the first game date, etc. Heck, there is a CPL post game party now planned. I know there are things to nit-pick about - and that some are unhappy about the overhype of the VW announcement, etc. But (and I know this is obvious to everyone here) this is such a great time to be a Canadian footy fan. Shit is happening right now that people have dreamed of for years. Hot damn.

Short answer. If the guaranteed club revenue from this deal is exactly zero dollars ($0), but I very much doubt that it is, the league would still be insane not to have taken this deal.

It is fascinating that the Voyageurs board is almost unanimously dedicated to demeaning the cup that we donated and bears our name, but that is the short term "Dory from Nemo" sort of memory many have come to expect these days. I will never speak out against the V-Cup being given a primary spot for Canadian rep, since now and for the future, perhaps always, it represents Canadian soccer across leagues. I find this year's format frankly insulting, however, with arbitrary seedings, without a draw, and TFC being babied with potentially only 4 games to repeat, just because they are holders. No Cup in the world favours a holder so blatantly. THAT is also denigrating to the Cup's integrity. After a year's play, or well into it, we'll be in a situation to request to Concacaf a 2nd spot, based on previous results, which we give to our national champion. That way, potentially, both spots can go to CPL teams, and MLS teams can only, ever, get one. Doesn't Concacaf have a working set of coefficients based on club competitions in the region, so we can really know who deserves to be getting byes, spots, etc? Or is it just decided by eye-balling relative league size and club power? Because it is true, if they had a coefficient system, that we'd be at least third over the last 5 years, even with one sole rep.

After great reflection ( : I have decided even as TFC season ticket holder I will be at the Forge York 9 CPL opener. Figure there will be about 20 other times I will be down at BMO this year, so what's the big deal with missing one all in the name of Canadian footy.

Liam came on in the 78th min to make his senior pro debut! Had on chance on a header vs two cb. I’m biased but looked comfortable eager and added a bit of life to the killie side of the game he made his debut after a medical yesterday and not even trying with the team test. Talk about being thrown in the deep end.!!

I promised myself I wouldn't post on this board again once 2019 rolled around, because, well what's the point? But I figured I would log in and give myself as evidence to the fact that posters like BBTB are driving away good people from this board. Those of us who are trying to make the CPL, and the supporters scene, successful in CPL cities. I don't know whether I would consider myself a good poster; I happen to still have the highest number of "likes" despite rarely posting for the last 18 months, but that is not really the point here. It is famously said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. That is the case here. If you do not get rid of posters like BBTB, you will never get the discussion back to where it could be. And to show what is going on in the real world, outside of this board, here's what myself and 5 other guys in Calgary have turned the supporters scene into in 4 years. We've gone from 6, to 62 (by my latest count), in the span of 4 years. All unabashed supporters of watching local players suit up to play in a Canadian league.

^^ Sure it's not one of the more exciting names that was being bandied about, but if it is him, it's not a development to be easily dismissed either. A 19 yr old, with over 25 appearances in the Eredivisie, now signed to one of the traditional powerhouses in Turkey and who has over 20 caps for Holland's u18-u21 youth teams. We've come a long way in the last few years when a player with this resume and who has other options for playing internationally potentially might commit to us and the news basically gets eyerolls around here!

True he switched off for a moment but the shot was going well over the bar before the deflection off of Alex Bruce.. but he will learn and improve... Trial by fire just throw in there but growing leaps and bounds every day...Scott Brown who scored the goal has player 330 times for Celtic and 55 times for Scotland that's some experience...Liam is playing first team football all be it 10/15 minutes at a time but against pretty good experienced opposition and doing well, not looking out of his depth at all...he has featured in all 4 games he has been eligible for...There are two more games this week 1 Wednesday vs Rangers and 1 vs Livingston on Saturday should get a start this week we hope he is close... But its about the education and the journey..it's his first loan after all.. I will keep updating!! 50000 on Wednesday at Ibrox!!!!

I haven't seen much of Gnarby, but he is young, and as a winger has scored 21 league goals in the Bundesliga in 49 appearances over the last 2 seasons. He was at Arsenal, now Bayern Munich. He's a full German international. How shitty could he be? If Davies put up those numbers, we'd be thrilled.

    The Importance of Alphonso Davies

I've found that many of us Voyageurs have been a little eager with Davies. He's just made an absolutely huge jump to one of the toughest leagues in the world, at one of the best clubs in the world. Bayern are easing him into this, as they should.

Absolutely and just a reminder that Panama had two players on their World Cup squad who never even got a match with Gent, never mind made an impact as an 18 year old. For a 19 year old Canadian that's an incredible level and I'd be upset if he went to a big club and turned into a youth/reserve player.

Today's combine at the Ontario Soccer Centre involved only League 1 Ontario players. I got there at 8:45am and the players were doing testing. Pylon navigation with and without a ball. Also sprinting with a bungee cord attached I'll assume increasing in resistance the further across the field you ran. There were 47 players listed for the morning games divided into four teams wearing pinnies I recognized from the CPL open tryouts last Fall. Each team played two 30 minute half games against the same team ie. Orange vs Green for 60 minutes then Yellow vs Blue. First game started at 10:14am and second at 11:43am and ended at 12:48pm. After lunch there was another game with 33 players split into two teams (leaving bench strength for substitutions). This was also a two 30 minute halfs game. This was an 'invite only' day involving L1O players that had been prescouted by L1O and selected to show off for the CPL coaches and officials. These players were not involved in the open trials that took place across Canada months ago (although some other L1O players were at trials not just here and Hamilton but the other venues and some passed for the promise of a tryout--which was later changed to a possibility of a tryout). Duncan Wilde of Oakville Blue Devils answered me that his team had none of his players at the Open Trials back in the Fall but some were here today. There were some players that came from FC London and even one from Ottawa South United—Barou Junior Mbuyamba who made it to the afternoon session while their goalie Jared St Thomas and defender Turner Johnson had successfully tryed-out in Hamilton. Today's players looked better than the 200+ I saw over two days at this location. That was open to those who put up the $200 fee. Players may have played on the same club team but today's squads were scattered about. There were a lot of offsides called in the three games today and the backheel passes didn't always work because players weren't used to each other. I've got all the goal scorers from the games. The afternoon session had the survivors play in Yellow vs Blue pinnies but that meant the numbers worn were different as some of the Greens and Oranges passed and pinnies were given out at random. Officials from L10 and CPL seemed glad to see me but I had not been invited and found out about it from folks on the Voyageurs message board. L1O provided me with a list of the morning rosters and after the afternoon game I was allowed to take a picture of that roster on the promise I wouldn't tweet it. Good deal! I have a commitment tonight so I can't get into the details of games but will work on it tomorrow and Saturday. Stay tuned.

For the mass audience I think the general production quality of the broadcast is more influential.. If it's similar to a CFL level of production(ie camera angles, replays, commentators, pre-game post-game show) the it will feel like a top-tier league in many ways. I have watched USL streams and it isn't really TV-level production.

    CPL new teams speculation

I’m not ready to talk about the narrative of the level then CPl players are coming from. Only about 1/3 of the rosters are filled. Also please don’t call BBTB names. He has a valid point of view, even if it’s has some sandpaper, he’s come a long way in the last 2 years. We’re all on the same team. Back to the point let’s see what happens. As it is there will be 110+ Canadian players in the CanPL and in 2020 maybe 140. Lots of those players will move on to other leagues and players will move in from other leagues. Bottom line is the league is expanding and will deepen our player pool.
