There was a twitter rumour about him being courted by CPL teams shortly after he won the Championship. Looks like the existence of another league has caused MLS to pony up for the best talent.

These last 2 years haven’t worked out well for Haber. His contract is up in May and I imagine a move back to Canada to be a star in the new league may be appealing to him.
  4. 2 points
To be fair the league is probably receiving hundreds to thousands of emails from parents, coaches and players. There were players from all over the world who paid out of pocket to travel to the open try outs just for the opportunity to been seen by CPL coaches. What makes this player so special that they should be put above the rest? If his resume truly merits a look I’m sure his agent will use the proper channels to connect him with league officials. Sure an acknowledgement would be nice but this is a professional league, not amateur or Usports. I’m more inclined to say the league would be unprofessional if they were handing out trial invitations to anyone that claimed they deserve it.

2018 Voyageurs #CanMNT Player of the Year

Have to say things are skewing towards club play this year. Heavily skewing towards club play, and for good reason. 2019 will be a lot different but until next year... 1). Milan Borjan 2). Junior 3). Scott Arfield Honourable mentions (very strong honourable mentions) to Davies, Osorio & Cavllini. Brit ball bias coming through. Sorry, lads.

Aird > Godihno for me until I see otherwise. I try not to put too much stock in the level a player is playing at (within reason). We've seen players like Di Chiara get minutes at high levels and not pan out. We also see guys like Gerba who never really played at a high level, but was an excellent player, or even Piette, who iirc was playing in the Spanish 3rd tier and stepped up nicely in MLS and the National Team. Heck I even remember people not putting much stock in Cavallini because he was playing in that "backwater" Uruguayan league, but he's now a star in LigaMX.

    The Importance of Alphonso Davies

It is kind of a moot point because I think Pulisic transferred before the FIFA age rules came into effect and he also has a Euro passport (actually I am not sure which reason was behind him being able to transfer but if someone knows). Regardless, transferring to Bayern earlier was not an option. However, if we want to speculate like you are doing I can equally imagine a scenario of him transferring to Bayern at 17 and not being ready as a player for such a high level and not being mature enough to adapt to the change in culture and pressure and flaming out. Plus if he had transferred a year earlier it might have been to a lesser team than Bayern, it was his play in 2018 that really sold them on him. At the moment he has one year of being an occassional MLS sub, one year of being a good starter and one year of being a star player which has upped the pressure on him every year. That he has managed to deal with the pressure last year of starting every game with high expectations and often double coverage from both players and the media :-) is what makes me very positive that he will succeed in Bayern. No one can know what would have happened if he had been able to transfer earlier but I think his progression has been the right one and if I were able to change history and arrange a transfer to Bayern a year earlier I would not do it.

Hasn't scored for Bayern yet, I think we should all give up on him to be honest.

Just to break up the ongoing tangent and get back to players we expect to see in CanPL: Check out @ValourpegBlog’s Tweet: Sounds like this guy may have been more than just a rumour.

You should be a little bit more respectful, this is a forum for fans, many of who have been around a bit. In fact, that is precisely what you were counting on when you came on here to bitch about York9, you wanted us to help create buzz in your favour. If you have professional ambitions and come on to a fan message board to speak negatively about the club and league you want to get into, I would say you are, at least, a poor professional. If you really were doing your job you would not be publicly complaining to people you do not know, about an organisation you may have to negotiate with in the future. You cannot say he is being carefully handled if you are doing what you are doing here. If I were on York9 staff and you showed up, and I knew it was you who had posted in this tone on the Voyageur board, I'd say sorry, not going to talk to that guy: he's not serious. And I would be doing what scores of clubs do the world over: avoid agents who don't know basic etiquette. So stop being so immature, and, please, consult by all means but do NOT post your immaturity on this board if you hope to have any serious future as an agent or whatever you think you are. I feel badly for the player you are supposedly representing.

Just to update a bit, after Hurtado was traded to SKC after six years with the club, he spoke glowingly of the city, fans and club: https://theprovince.com/sports/soccer/mls/vancouver-whitecaps/erik-hurtado-sad-to-leave-the-whitecaps-but-ready-for-kansas-city-challenge No word on any new signings after MacMath, Crepeau, PC and Rose.

Bunbury said in the interview after the holidays, in the new year. So I guess we are talking about within a few weeks. Excited to hear what they come up with and hopeful the project is as good or better than the average we now have in CPL.

I recommend you to use a telephone or go personally to the office of the club you are interested in. Every year I assign my students to go out and collaborate with NGOs and non-profits for a class, and a large % come back after a month of wasted time saying just what you are repeating: "they did not respond to my emails." And I have no sympathy for them. Now I expect a designer (what I teach in Spain) to be proactive, know how to problem solve, and be perserverant before obstacles, as it is part of the profession. But anyone with any ambition cannot expect to send an email and sit on his butt. I am amazed by the lack of character at times, by the laziness and self-complacency. Go get it. Mind you, just to cut him a bit of slack: if you were looking for a team in a European nation, say a 4th or 5th tier, you would never go to a region and only email one club. Because there would be maybe 15-20 in an area this kid has arrived in, and some would respond to emails, even, others not.

Nope - that's only in some sports (ie the revenue raising ones). Players can transfer in soccer and play right away without sitting out. @Keegan

The draft has lost a ton of influence, but there are still good players to be found (albeit fewer and fewer with each passing year). Atlanta's most versatile player, Julian Gressel, was drafted last year and has become a key piece of that MLS juggernaut side.

Same for me here.. Osorio isn’t always in my best 11 depending on the tactic and who is available but this is for player of the year and nothing else.

I wonder how many Scotts regret Scotland not capping Arfield, now that he is back in the SPL and showing he’s one of the top midfielders in the division?
  19. 1 point
I think top to bottom MLS is better, but Celtic, Rangers and a few of the other top sides would compete with the top sides in MLS.

Oh boy!! That makes alot of sense, terrible and depleted teams score and win...just because they have to?? Someone had to score?? Why wasnt it Delgado then?? Or why didnt Ricketts or Jay Chapman pot 10 goals?? Dont put him on your list if you dont want to but dont dump on his accomplishments just because he is TFC. 10 goals from the mid, golden boot in CCL, he had a great year and he deserves to get some votes.

Maybe, we can say “what if” forever when it comes to development. But remember, with the Caps he was able to play important first team games against men in a very physical league. We really don’t know if he would have been better in a euro academy. He hasn’t even played a game at Bayern yet. Maybe he comes out and has a great year. Lots of players struggle in academies too, you just only hear about the successes.

On a more positive note, I am very happy with the renders that were posted. I am getting more and more excited to take in games at Spruce Meadows this spring. I do think the uniqueness and quaintness of this venue will be worth the commute. Hell, I may even catch myself taking in esqutarian events one day, who knows!

    Liam Millar

Liam has been in and out all this week with the first team. They have a few injuries and have loads of games in the next few weeks. He is happy for any chance he gets and says the first team players are really welcoming to the young players.. he said especially Wijnaldum and Salah!!! As for Wolves I wouldn' t think he will get near it but it would be amazing if he did...Its really a numbers game. The first team at Liverpool has a squad of about 35, very deep especially up front. So Liam's opportunities will come probably from injuries or more loans. Ovie Ojaria has just returned from Rangers and Ben Woodburn may follow suit as his loan at Sheffield United hasn't worked out... he trains with the u23s unless he gets a call to come train at Melwood normally first thing in the morning… Like I tell him keep working hard and soak it all in and do you best every chance you get...keep at it...and keep dreaming...your chance may come A.
