They drew about 5500 fans per game last season. This in on par with many smaller clubs in top European leagues. In my opinion 5500 average is a solid following for a non MLS league team.

I don't think Scott Mitchell would be scouting players. No offense to Mitchell, but I doubt he has the experience in that field. It's more likely he's networking with potential scouts and soccer contacts and getting combine ideas.

Total Soccer Solutions Yeah, The Rockies are a natural dividing line, BC should have it's own D3 and "the middle" (however you define it) should have one as well. In the end we get to five D3's by creating an "Atlantic" league for the Maritimes + Newfoundland.

Day 3 Awuah played first at DM and then at LB and again excelled at the latter. Reid played at RW and was good making runs with the ball. Needs to show that he can defend as well. Wright didn't play so was either hurt or got word that a team would definitely pick him and sat out. Counting as a domestic will help him a lot. Shome played at CM and again didn't show anything special. Nanco played at RM and was good in the final third and on the other side of the ball. Wright: mid first round to second round Shome: late first round Reid: late first round to second round Awuah: second or third round Nanco: second or third round

I hope not but you could see that sort of Canadian mentality thing occurring. We should bid ourselves considering you may be right when it comes to the USA fearing they'll lose to a Canadian only bid. However, if we do decide to co host, it should be split 50/50. If you recall the Korea/Japan World Cup, both hosts had 8 venues each so I imagine the same thing would occur in 2026, especially considering the increase in teams. If we co host and get very few games, I will be pissed as that would be such a wasted opportunity. A World Cup is suppose to grow the game in new markets with a side benefit of infrastructure development. Having games in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver will not grow the game here any further and will be a huge missed opportunity when it comes to building infrastructure throughout the country. It needs to be in the other markets.

Honestly I just find it infuriating when there is no meaningful symbolism. The colors are nice, and unique. But overall I find the current crest a little lacking. And also agree with @Complete Homer, KWC or grand river makes way more sense, IMO. We need all hands on deck.
  15. 1 point
Ah thats a little disappointing, but okay, yea blue makes sense. I mean I think I would stick with the colours of the logo personally, for continuity's sake. No ideas off the top of my head but give it a few days and I'm sure we'll both come back with something.

Being a professional is getting on with your job and being a member of the team, pretty sure he's always done that with Toronto and Portland even when he was benched. Not like he was causing problems like Drogba during important matches, the season is over it's okay to be human now (within reason). Would it be unprofessional for an executive to say he left his old post because he wasn't playing a big enough role but in the time he was aggrieved got on with his work? No, so why is it here?

    2017 MLS Combine, Canucks

Awuah, Shome, Nanco and Wright all make their respective lists in this draft prospect article: http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/01/10/parchman-ranking-top-5-mls-superdraft-prospects-each-position No Andonijah Reid but they only have five names listed for both striker positions (ie. Target forward & striker who plays off the target forward), rather than for 5 each.

So it's been almost 10 months since I said he'd stay in Uruguay and he's just signed a 3 year deal to do just that. Obviously he could be moving in the future but I'm more confident in my original bet now than I was last March. The current transfer window doesn't close until the end of March and then the next possibility will be in July. We'll see!

Since the World Cup expands to 48 teams, they all need training grounds/facilities and I doubt turf would cut it, so you could see more fields with Natural grass being built which could be the foundation for a CPL future stadium or/and massive revamp of existing University fields

    Will Johnson (update)

Cooper Osorio Bradley was a better fit for Toronto. Simple as that. Cooper gives them the right balance. Of the 3, Johnson is most similar to Bradley, and he's not taking his spot obviously. That was always my worry when Johnson came to Toronto. Too much like Bradley. It would be okay if he was okay with coming off the bench or occasional starts depending on opponent match ups, but he wants to start every game. Can't blame him but just shows he's not the right fit with Cooper around. Honestly, Cooper was one of the best moves any MLS team made midseason.

    Will Johnson (update)

He did, but it was directed at Paul Mariner so that was totally okay in my books. Which would be the case if what De Guzman claimed Mariner said about him prior/at the time of the trade was true or not (though given Mariner's comments about other players like Plata who he also got rid of, I am inclined to believe Julian about this). As for Will Johnson, on the one hand I think he has a point that he never seemed to get his starting job back after he returned from injury - on the other hand, he needs to be realistic about comparing himself to three DP's what the club did when those three got hurt. I feel this comparison makes him look silly because he obviously knows - or ought to know - that teams just can't go and sign additional DP's to replace the DP's when they are hurt, so it's a very silly comparison. It's not like he is head and shoulders better than Cooper though it's a difficult comparison given the different qualities they bring to the table. I always thought that Johnson losing his starting job was more to do with the move to go to a three man-midfield rather than the 4-man diamond. If they stuck with the diamond, Will would continued to have started - Cooper would play on the right (as he did in the three man midfield) and Delgado would be the only person that would lose his starting position (which is another point, does Johnson feel Delgado losing his starting midfield role also has to do with Johnson coming back from injury)? It's notable that Johnson was the go-to guy as the first midfield sub (and did start one playoff game) which indicates to me that he was ahead of Delgado on the pecking order in the midfield and would have continued to start if they hadn't decided (for a whole bunch of reasons) on the formation switch. In other words, I don't think it's really all about him or being "disrespected" even though I know from his perspective that it would suck to be "benched" upon an injury return after he laid everything out for that cup winning goal on the play.

Is it just me or did the CSA spend more money this time than for any previous generation of U-20s. A camp in Honduras, now Panama and then Mexico. They will expect a return on investment.
  31. 1 point
Agreed. The man has played his best football in the last two years when it mattered most.. in the playoffs. Why you wouldn't want a club legend who is still effective in big games is beyond me.. especially because you can't really see any Quebec talent coming in and being close to him in the near future. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in 2018 as well.. if he has another year like last how could they say no? A player like Bernier to me is so much more than just a name on the team sheet, he represents the tie between the club and city. Like an Alan Shearer for Newcastle.

At their yearly awards night in December, the VP of Calgary Foothills did indicate that the club wanted to be at the table, and are, (the VP's words, not mine) with the CSA in the discussion over CPL. I don't have any more insight beyond that statement as the point of the speech was to primarily discuss the construction of their new facility. It may be bluster, it is probably out of date information, but take it for what it's worth. And no, this is not public information, but I believe @Stuart could back this up as he was there with me at the awards night.

CanPL Fever…Catch It! (part 2) For the past few years I have been reading about the proposed new league but have been let down far too many times by the promise of “imminent” announcements from basically one guy with a twitter account regurgitating “news” from his one source. Like all of his other proclamations, nothing even remotely concrete or substantial was announced. So I decided to do my own research and get the REAL story behind the proposed CanPL. Spoiler Alert… it’s coming folks! Super excited about the prospects of Canada having its own D1 Super League and I hope you are too! Rock On CanPL! Canadian Soccer Fan

That's your opinion. My opinion is, if the CanPL cannot get on a "standard" network with national coverage it will not have the media footprint required to satisfy sponsors and to engage Canadians. If it is a shown only on a niche or specialty channel it will virtually ensure that the league will not be covered by mainstream media further reducing it's value to sponsors and Canadians. That said, DOA may be a bit harsh I grant you, but the handicap will be significant, dropping the chance of success to less than 50% IMO.

What draw fans in Canada to soccer games -MLS draws in its region -CanWNT draws -CanMNT can draw -MLS Canadian teams playing each other can draw on TV unlike normal games -Some local youth and armature sides What do not draw -NASL -USL Meaning: BBTB stop acting like the CPL won't ve able to draw when a lot of what is needed to draw in Canada is there and stop acting like USL and NASL sides will make it super hard to set up teams and get fans in cities with them

Seriously? Bitching because they didn't go out and sign other players when Bradley and Giovinco got hurt and implying that he was unfairly treated. Maybe if he was as good as he thinks he is, he should've just won his spot back rather than expect to have it gifted back to him. One instance could be an anomaly, two could be a coincidence, more and you're starting to see a pattern. I love the guy and I love what he brings to the team, but this article just comes off as sour grapes.

The point is that signing for Peñarol now, at this stage, is huge, it is as big as going to mid-level Argentina. He is now in the spotlight. Many of his fellow players will be internationals now, he can stay training with the u-19s and subs when they are called away on a Fifa date, or decide on travelling himself for Canada. His choice. Another thing, given how dominant Nacional and Peñarol are (similar to Rangers and Celtic in Scotland), he is going to get more scoring chances, will likely increase his numbers. That said, Peñarol came third to last in the 16 team table this last season (fall), so they are seriously underperforming. Just to get a picture, here is what rsssf says about league winners in Uruguay (three of Danubio's titles are from this century however): 39 Peñarol 35 Nacional 4 Danubio Defensor Sporting (includes Defensor) 1 Bella Vista Central Español Progreso NB: all teams are from Montevideo

So no one in FIFA stood up for reason over money. They are happily cashing in while devaluing their flagship product and tarnishing the history of the tournament. NCAA Canadians 2016

Reviews and draft predictions of our top players after having followed Canadians in NCAA and watched the first games of the combine: Shamit Shome: A versatile midfielder with good control, passing and vision. Was an NASL starter and performed well so it’s a big plus for teams. His position at mls level is still unclear. Prediction: top 20 pick. Brian Wright: A forward with size who scored consistently at Vermont. Makes good runs but is most importantly also good outside the box. Played well in the first game at the combine and won a penalty. Prediction: late first round or second round pick. Adonijah Reid: Only 17 years old and was one of the best players in his first game at the combine. Gave the pass that led to the foul on Wirght in the box. Can play as a striker or attacking midfielder but his best position is attacking midfield or second striker. Quick, fast turn, good through balls. Will need time in usl. Prediction: late first round or second round pick. Chris Nanco: An undersized forward at 5’6. Not a big scorer but still performed very well for Syracuse and came up big in tournament games. Unlikely at this point to become an mls player but will still get time in usl to prove himself. Prediction: second or third round pick. Kwame Awuah: A versatile, left footed player who started his UCONN career as a left back then moved to attacking midfielder. Was a co-captain in his last two years and scored and assisted several goals. Played as a left back in the first game at the combine and did well. If he is to make it and last at mls level, it would be as a LB as he doesn’t have the skill set to be a starting AM in the league. Undersized at 5’7. Would need some time in usl to work on his game. Prediction: second or third round pick. Sergio Camargo: Has apparently signed a contract with TFC and so would not be in the draft. Was not able to break through as a top player at Syracuse in the regular season but finally did so in tournament play with big goals and assists. He is 22 and will probably have only one or two years with the usl team to prove that he can make the step up, which is very unlikely at this point.
