I think we need to realize that the level of all these leagues is pretty dynamic as are the players. I bet a few months ago nobody would have thought that Hume who couldn't get a start in League Two in England and was playing in a fledgling league in India would now be getting starts in second division Spain. I certainly did not. I thought he was done. Now I wouldn't be surprised if he gets called up against Mexico. De Jong will probably use this to springboard somewhere else

Totally agree. In some cases playing time > level of league.

I've never understood this argument, particularly when we tie a team made up of a bunch of players from the Salvadoran Primera Division.

How often do you watch CIS soccer games?
  6. 2 points
Not with that lineup. As soon as I saw the defensive line I felt Herdman had underestimated Nadia Nadim. I am starting to wonder how much attention he pays to the NWSL. I am a bit surprised we couldn't score though.

Bump in March 2016 for @jpg75 So, how long is his contract with the Ottawa Fury? I don't recall reading this anywhere. As a Fury fan, I'm quite happy! This is more evidence of Don Garbage "domestic" rules in MLS though...
  8. 2 points
Disagree. I don't think his form was bad last year. He had excellent competition at SKC and couldnt lock down a starting spot his first year in the league. It happens - doesnt mean he is not MLS quality. His lack of MLS contract is more a product of teams not being able to justify an international spot on a left back, when he is at a comparable level to domestic left backs. He was also on a decent sized contract, 190K, and was making more than Sinovic who was his left back competition. He didn't have a great game against the US, but I thought he had a good Gold Cup, especially against Costa Rica. He was at the level we needed him to be in the fall WCQs. Lets not forget his free kick against Jamaica in the 2014 friendly and the strike against Ghana last fall. He is still by far our best LB option and I hope things work out for him in Ottawa.

I'm not going to keep getting into it with you Ted. Let's just agree to disagree. I wasn't creating a straw man, I was just responding to your assertions with facts. I am of the belief that there is a large untapped pool of Canadian talent in the NCAA and CIS and that a draft would be a great way to structure a development pathway to more professionals. I'm talking 12-16 pro contracts out of 500 Juniors and Seniors in the NCAA and CIS who are Canadian. You disagree and thing that there isn't a lot of talent there and/or you don't like the idea of a draft philosophically. I get it and I'm not going to argue my point of view with yours anymore.

    Canada vs Mexico Viewing Parties

In order to make a Canada vs Mexico viewing party you must ensure the following. 1. The bar will have sound 2. You must make a Facebook event and actively promote 3. The Facebook event should link back to The Voyageurs site. 4. The event should be for both games We will be doing things for these events in coordination with the CSA based on how many confirmed people you have at the event via FB. So push the social media side and encourage people, the bar ect.. to invite people and share the event. Some bars and cities which have an ongoing event history may override events people create. So please don't create an event in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton or Vancouver unless you know you should be making it. If you are unsure, please contact me before making the event. Post the details in this thread and we will combine them all on the front page. These events will then be promoted by the CSA. Thanks

The new WC fans have no idea of the history...and I always thought that was a Spurs imitation, the white, Nash being a Spurs fan and all. In any case, they just make things up as they go along, they let an ignorant jersey designer see the White in the name, he does not know what it means, and he thinks white has to dominate. When the reference was always principally to the top of a wave, so that the basic idea was always blue with a dash of white. Then they let them do the dark blue, I think because it matched the Bell colours, we never had that tone either. Bad designs are often directly related to bad clients.

huh? it is a very strong possibility. ledgerwood is one of floros favourites. he's not only been in every camp when healthy but has also started or seen significant playing time don't understand how you can say ledgerwood doesn't make the 23 when he has been a started under floro

I am. De guz and ledgerwood looked fine in wcq so far. Honduras made it to the world cup with half a team from their national league which isnt all that great. So ya. Nvm starting one nasl player. Strong possibility we start 3. De jong started for us in wcq when he was riding the pine in mls and B1. But now if he plays in NASL you arent confident? Rather have a player playing than riding pine. More confident in their abilities with the former

Oh well. Since it was mentioned, here are a bunch of chants with people's names. We came up with several of these prior to the WWC and U20WWC. Chant: Simeon Jackson Tune: I've always known it as the theme from The New Music in the 80s/90s. If it has an actual name, please let me know. Do, do, duh do. Simeon Jackson. (repeat over and over). (Also done for Elijah Adekugbe in Calgary) Chant: Kadeisha! Tune: Tequila Duh, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. Duh, do, do, do, do, do, do. KADEISHA!! Chant: Ricketts Tune: We Know Who We Are (that's what I've always know the chant as) He plays on the left, he plays on the riiiight! Tosaint Ricketts! Makes Messi look shite!! (repeat) Chant: She scores when she wants Tune: We Know Who We Are She scores when she wants, she scores when she waaants! Christine Sinclair! She scores when she wants! Chant: Adriana Tune: There's No Limit Na, na. Na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na. Na, na, A-DRI-A-NA!! (Also was done for Emma Fletcher during U20WWC. Emma. Emma, Emma. etc, etc) Chant: Atiba Tune: When the Saints Go Marching In Oh Canada. Is beautiful. Oh Canada is beautiful. We've got the snow, the sun, and Atiba. Oh Canada is beautiful. (This was borrowed from FCE supporters and not sure it was done more than once, and then only by a few people) Chant: Cyle Larin Tune: The Flintstones Larin. Cyle Larin. He's the greatest guy in history. From the. Town of Brampton. He's about to score a goal or three.

    Hamilton NASL Supporters Meet-up

Well first off, to Kevin's request for Rankin's. I actually have a union meeting close to that time, but I may be able to swing over. I'm sadly also on call, so I can't commit 100% but I would be interested. As far as the Mexico Game, likely we'll be heading over to either the Buffalo Anchor Bar, the Augusta House or the Pheasant Plucker for the game. If it is a BEin game, the Augusta house is the only bar in the Hammer I think that carries it.

Not a bad move. I think with regular football he'll find his form again. NASL is getting closer to MLS than MLS is to Liga MX it seems. Checking out some of the rosters there are some impressive players on every side.
  36. 1 point
I think in a big match at home in front of 40,000+ people you have to go with your most capped/experienced player in De Guzman, regardless of whether he is 35 now or not. He played well against Honduras, I think he stays in the lineup. Our whole midfield played well at home last time out, I'd be hesitant to mess with anything. If Ledgerwood is fit I'd start him over Ouimette at right back, he's more experienced and IMO less likely to be burned. At CB I'd take out Straith for Edgar. And put Arfield on the wing in Ricketts spot.

I'm not sure why people are surprised about Haber. He's not going to score a bag full of goals, but he has skills that other forwards on this team don't possess in abundance. Here's the case for Haber: has been in many camps so he knows Floro and the program he is a central forward. The only other one we have is Larin. is a regular starter at a decent level (League One) probably the best aerial threat on the team better hold up play than Larin, Akindele, etc. Of those last two traits, the former is useful for set pieces, especially when you're chasing the game, and the latter is a useful skill-set to have when absorbing pressure and defending a lead. I won't be happy if he starts but there is absolutely a place for him in a 23-man squad.
  39. 1 point
Shocked that James and Haber have been called. Assuming both true this is how I see the roster playing out (Floro's picks, not mine) Strikers- Larin, Haber Mids- Hoilett, Hutchinson, Arfield, Johnson, Akindele, de Guzman, Ricketts, Piette, Kianz, Teibert Backs- Edgar, de Jong, Aird, Straith, James, Vitoria, Jakovic, Ledgerwood Keepers- Borjan, Stamatopoulos, Crepeau

I'll give it a shot. Here's who I would like to see: Strikers- Larin, Haber, Jackson Mids- Hoilett, Hutchinson, Arfield, Johnson, Akindele, de Guzman, Ricketts, Piette, Osorio Backs- Edgar, de Jong, Aird, Straith, Henry, Ouimette, Jakovic, Ledgerwood Keepers- Borjan, Stamatopoulos, Crepeau
