The Importance of Alphonso Davies

Starting to think the one tabloid-type article was picked up by multiple sources and has blown up into a shit storm of misinformation.

He is playing for a major club. We should get used to it. It is actually a good sign, not many Canadian players are ever playing at a level where tabloids will write a lot of crap about them.

Your reading far too much into it

Bayerns track record with youth players over the last 5 years is generally quite poor, but the jump from the Bayern II side to the first team is massive. He will be better than what they have already. The level however is a Bayern Regional league, im not even sure its fully pro.

They are now beginning to build for the future having invested in Davies along side Coman & Gnabry. He could well benefit from a loan spell next season, all depends on Ribery and Robben calling it a day this summer and if Bayern feel the need for more experience at the wing positions, considering Comans current poor injury record

Davies actually looks 18 and James next to him looks like he's 14 and never lifted a weight in his life.  Davies is nowhere close to his physical peak and especially in the second photo, he already looks pretty ripped.

Both Ribery & Robben are both leaving next year so I still highly doubt Davies will be loaned out next year.  I also doubt Hudson-Odoi will move from Chelsea now given their transfer ban.  So Coman, Gnabry, sometimes Mueller and Davies seem to be the choice for wingers next season.  There is no need to panic, but unfortunately some people expected Davies to be a starter right away and scoring goals week in and week out for Bayern.  It was just never going to happen.

He was brought into the 18 man rotation for awhile when there were numerous injuries to his position.  As long as Bayern stay healthy, Davies will not likely see much playing time, especially given how important every game is now.

Not worried about Daview whatsoever.

Agree with everyone that the Bild article is just tabloid-esque.

It's more of a shot at Bayern than a diss of Davies, but it's nothing new, people always want to kick the big club while they are down. Most neutrals want to see Bayern fail, because they are so dominant, so when their biggest youth signing (Davies) is listed to play with the reserves, it's a great chance to pile on to Bayern's misery. Davies is just the collateral damage.

People are just so desperate for teams like Bayern, PSG and Juventus to fall off their throne. It's normal.

What is disappointing is that Sportsnet would take it at face value, echo it and engage in such lazy journalism. The words "bare minimum" come to mind. No analysis or criticism or understanding that players move up and down from the first team to the reserves on a regular basis.

The media in this country has a long way to go.

The words "bare minimum" have been a standard description of footy journalism in many parts of this country for a long, long time.  The on-air analysis has grown leaps and bounds, but unfortunately the print journalists haven't kept pace.  We usually get lazy commentary or rebranded AP articles.

Looks like he performed well enough. I counted an assist and a hockey assist as well as a beauty run and cross.

From the video AD gets a direct assist on first Jeong goal, hockey assist on the second Jeong goal and a lovely one touch pass to spring Jeong for his third.  There was also a run down the left flank and a cross for a tap in that the attacker fluffed.

That was #10 with the assist on the first goal.

Looked like a solid outing from Davies with Salihamidzic in the stands watching.

Not worries either. I tweeted the Manuel Veth article directly at the Sportsnet clown, Peter Galindo, who regurgitated this stuff with  zero context and tried to make my voice heard through a number of other avenues. We have to keep these "reporters" honest, even if it's a few of us for now.

Kovac announced that Davies will travel with the first team to Mönchengladbach for Saturday's Bundesliga match. He also clarified that: "Because he (Davies) didn't play much it doesn't mean that he's not good enough for us. He is an alternative".

Thus rendering Sportsnet as fake news 😂

Galindo reiterating the the opinion of a fanblog's most fickle poster is incredibly irresponsible journalism.

I’ve never been a fan of his work and usually don’t pay attention to his articles

had a good laugh when Octavio Zambrano ripped him a new one on Twitter last year
