Quality of competition is just one factor though. For example, if TFC had always been in USSDA they probably never would have gotten Jonathan Osorio or Raheem Edwards (and maybe Ryan Telfer?). They recruited Osorio and Edwards after seeing them play against TFC academy teams. I believe Osorio played for a team in the CSL that the academy played in before L1O existed, and Edwards played for ANB Futbol in L1O and impressed TFC.

Now playing in USSDA I imagine it will be harder for them to recruit from competing teams, and of course from a CMNT point of view those players would likely not be Canadian.

Another thing is that if quality of competition is important for developing players, the fact that TFC is removing themselves from competition in Ontario, means they are hurting the development of Ontario players. A rising tide lifts all boats. Since they are drawing their players from Ontario, it's in their best interest for the level of play in Ontario to improve. And as I illustrated above, it directly benefits TFC when their local opponents are good.

I don't disagree, but TFC is going to do what they feel is right for them. So far it appears that the competition level is higher based on results.

But, it's still early. The team has already played a full season and could be tired. Based on how they generally perform in GA tournies I'd say they are likely to adjust and pick it up

An uncertain time.  Henry went down to one knee then fell over face down at the center line while play was upfield for a Woodbridge cornerkick that was itself delayed for a Woodbridge substitution.

The trainers were out to see the problem then a few minutes later asked if there was a doctor at the game.  He was covered by a coat as the weather had got quite cold then somebody made a call for blankets and some that fans were using as seat warmers and leg covers were rushed out to cover him until paramedics arrived.

Henry was eventually taken away by ambulance.  A fire truck had also arrived.

Play never restarted.  The players eventually shook hands and left the field.  Woodbridge was leading 3-0 at 82 minute mark.

Great report as always, Sir Robin. Thanks for another great year.

Curious, are there media boxes set-up for L10 finals, or more generally any of the larger matches OSA park? They gotta get you in there if so!

The L1O finals for each year I remember (except the one they held at BMO Field) were held at the Ontario Soccer Centre.  Their media box is the two story wooden treehouse style building.  Camera crews are on the top floor, commentators are on the lower floor and time keeper, fourth official, league statistician etc are on the ground just outside the structure.

I go over their just to get a copy of the lineups then cross the field and watch from the stands which helps on sunny days with the sun at my back so I can take pictures.

Other parks in the GTA have the 'camera' on a 20 foot pole with the operator looking through a periscope and turning the camera manually.  Sometimes near the sidelines, sometimes in the stands.  If it's livecast, the commentator is usually beside the camera operator.  There isn't any replays but if anyone watches on YouTube or livestream after the game is over, they can just click back 30 seconds and see it again with pause etc.    I can usually pick up an assist if I don't get a chance to ask the goalscorer at the game.   Hmm.  "Orange shoes, orange shoes, now turn around, Yes! number on his back".   'Orange shoes' usually turns out to be Vaughan's #8 Dylan Sacramento.

My take on the Canadian Premier League draft of U-Sports players and their 'acquisition' of League 1 Ontario.

The sudden change from avoiding mentioning that six players chosen played in L1O (including the top four picks) to 'acquiring' the L1O and suddenly bragging about all the L1O players who have made their way to MLS is most interesting.

My observations at the League 1 Ontario Awards Gala held on Sunday November 25th.  All the award winners listed.

Also I have audio of L1O Commissioner Dino Rossi comments on the Canadian Soccer Business purchase of L1O from Ontario Soccer starting at around the 6:30 minute mark.  The L1O women's component played an important part in the deal.

December 1, 2018 I've compiled a list of L1O guys who've signed or successfully trialed for the new CPL. I've also included those recently signed with the new Mississauga MetroStars MASL team.

I expect to keep adding to the list as we get closer to CPL kickoff.

So far 31 guys from 2018 L1O rosters, 12 'alumni' ie. those who left L1O before 2018 season began.
