The obvious answer is "it depends". It depends going forward how each player is playing with their clubs and how they play in camp and in games for the MNT. You'll see multiple players staking claims off/on to the starters spots at multiple positions for our NT as has been the case in the past.

Godinho is still very green.  Our expectations need to be tempered a bit.  I still think Petrasso is the better choice until Marcus can get some more match experience.

Cordova may be ahead of both as he starts at arguably a higher level than SPL and is probably more solid than petrasso defensively.

If Cordova gets minutes  for the rest of the season I'd argue he'd be better than both but as far as those two go, I would prefer Marcus

I tend to prefer Godinho or Cordova too but sometimes I think it's just that I've seen less of them.  Petrasso had his honeymoon period when I was just seeing his English highlights.  Now I've seen him at right back at Gold Cup and with Impact with some obvious talent but also some warts exposed, especially on defensive end.  Godinho and Cordova are the shiny new right back toys.  But they are both young unfinished products who probably have warts too, we just haven't seen them play enough to notice.

We really don't know enough yet to make a call, and they are all still developing.  Hopefully Herdman keeps an open mind and lets them all compete for the spot.  It is definitely nice to be at least 3 deep at both fullback positions (I'm including Morgan there on the left).

I wonder where Zachary Brault-Guillard fits in ? I'm sure we'll see Godinho and Brault - Guillard at Olympic  qualifiers

If anyone is curious, the entire Dundee-Hearts match is on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vmQ_IZZI5I). I came away really impressed with Godinho. He's 28 on the right flank (since there's no commentary) in case it wasn't obvious. It's a good chance to see what kind of player he is for people like me who haven't seen a lot of him play over the years.

I have no idea who will end up being the better player: Cordova, Godinho or Petrasso (or someone else). Each offers something a little different, but all three have strong technical skills and some pace, which isn't a bad starting point. It's been about 12 years since I had even a little bit of enthusiasm for our prospects at right back (no offence intended to Ledgerwood who was serviceable, but that was all we had).

cheers, matthew

I saw this video of the player that Godinho may be competing with for the RB spot at Hearts and thought it interesting to see the fans thoughts on him. Connor Randall did play the last game on the left but I think he is a RB.

Re @CCP_sport :

#Hearts ace Marcus Godinho unlikely to feature again this season as Canada international undergoes knee surgery https://t.co/J6P1mDCWQc #HMFC #USMNT

Sad news, at least he made a good impression and will hopefully have a solid recovery and come back strong with Hearts next season.

The great thing about us not playing any games until September is that we are not being harmed by players getting injured at this time - a brilliant strategy for letting your team not get hurt by the injury bug, when you come to think about it - just don't play any games! ;)

That sucks no Toulon. Looks like Zachary Brault-Guillard has the RB spot locked down now.

Hope the surgery goes well and gets healthy and fit soon.

Olympic qualifier? Isn't that in late 2019 or early 2020? Wikipedia says October 2019 but doesn't yet have a page for the tournament itself yet. Is Godinho expected to be out that long? A year and a half?

This is where I found October 2019 listed:

The article makes it sound minor, not like a tear etc that might keep him out for 6-8 months.

"However, Godinho was sent to visit a specialist in Bradford earlier this week and, following a check-up, the decision was made to carry out a minor operation to remedy the issue."

Yeah, unless there's another injury, this particular one isn't going to keep him out that long. The Summer Olympics are in 2020, I can't see them doing Olympic qualifiers this summer given that it would be 2 years in advance of that.

That is good news because we need all the depth we can get

Has he been playing?

No. Neither him or Zanatta have gotten time this season. I think Godinho is still recovering from his injury. Zanatta, I don't know what's going on there.

It's a real shame with Zanatta at the moment. He looked like a possible prospect and scored a few in his lower league loans. Hope he gets the chance to head out on loan again if they don't think he is first team ready.

Hearts has upgraded (as was required) in the striker position to the point where Zanatta is probably now 4th or 5th choice.  If Kyle Lafferty moves away as could happen, then he would move up.  But then I'd suspect the club would be looking for a more experienced replacement.  I'm afraid Dario's loan spells in the lower divisions didn't help his cause.

As for Godinho, he's still on the mend.  But when it's time to come back, he will likely be on the bench or possibly, sent out on loan.  But that's just my read on the situation with Marcus.
