2010 Voyageurs Christmas Card Thread

Recommended Posts

As all of the old guns know and some of the new V's may have read, one of the Voyageurs main activities is sending Christmas cards to all of our current national team players and I believe some of our significant past players. Wishing them well when most are likely so far from home is a great way for us to show our support for traveling across the world and representing our crest & colours.

This is a good thread to start the discussion for the 2010 edition, as it would be smart to get all the cards in the mail by the beginning of December to ensure they arrive ontime (or early if the club releases players early for the season).

My girlfriends mother owns a print shop, and can can create an order of cards at cost as long as we design the layout. I also will be recieving funds from new scarf/shirt sales which can be used to cover the cost of this project. All we would need is dedicated people to:

1. Take a region and send out cards to all players in that region (some regions are still available)

2. Determine who we should send cards out to (outside of everyone that has been in red&white in the past 2 seasons)

2. Help with locating the mailing addresses for the players in the region (Need Help)

3. Ensure that the players we are sending cards out to are still contracted with the club (Need Help).

4. Design the card and message (almost done)

ALSO - More than one person can get involved in a region. This is a great project to get involved in and something that won't take up much of your time.

***Space for all Updates***

I have placed the order to fabricate 115 cards, so now we need to figure out who we are sending the cards to. The CSA agreed to put the mailing addresses on each card for us and send them out, since it is a lot of work for us to track this info down.

I'm happy to take as much of Europe is required (I can find the addresses myself too), although for some reason, postage is twice as expensive in Germany than Holland, so if I only had to do, say, Germany, Holland, and Belgium that'd be ideal.

I think that would be a great start. I'll put your name on the second thread for the three countries. Another thing that should be agreed on is who we are sending these out to. I want to order as many cards as we are going to use so lets start gettting the numbers put together.

Also a Design for the front of the card is needed relatively soon. Hopefully there are enough high-rez pictures from the Peru match to make the card. I am voting it looks clean but displays the passion of the V's. Maybe the person that creates the best card design, will recieve the first item sent back to the V's from a player (if that happens again this year). That could make for a very specialized Christmas gift sitting under your tree this year.

I did MLS and USSF Div-2 last year and would be willing to do it again this year :)

I'd say men who have played a match for Canada at any level and WNT players, plus a few other who we think need some extra encouragement.

I could do Finland, Norway and Denmark... even Switzerland, Lithuania and Turkey if nobody is up for it, but of course it's better if more people get involved, so yeah.

Good start guys, however still not many replies as I expected. We need someone to put together a design for the card and there are quite a few more regions to tackle. Even if you want to work with someone else to take just a few players from the region..

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS. Canada Post is saying that we need to mail these 1st-2nd week in November to get them there ontime.

I have our card distributer secured. She said it would take a week. All we need is a design. Any Ideas on what it should be? I was thinking

Cardstock -RED

Front - Image of Voyaguerurs in Stands from Peru game Text over script (Happy Holidays)

Inside - White Script - "Happy Holidays to you and your Family. May the season be filled with Happiness and Hope for Canadian Soccer Glory. From all of the The Voyageurs - Canadian Soccer Supporters"

Back - Voyageurs Logo

This is just my image. What are you thinking? If you can mock something up (draft quality) and put it online or email it to me (Canadian dot voyageurs at gmail dot com) I will get it up for some commentary. I would be pretty stoked if we could get the design in within 2 weeks to give us enough time to get everything out. Please post comments or suggestions

Also - still more regions to cover. Please voulenteer if you can help out but taking a piece of this project.

Remember this is just a draft and comments/critisims are more than Welcome. Ideas/new designs to critique would be even better.

I'll take an area/country. Don't really care which. Whatever's left over is fine with me. Willing to help in whatever way possible.

As for the design, yours is pretty good with a bit of tweaking:

1) Front: Have "Seasons Greetings 2010" below the picture and not on top of.

2) Inside: White text is tough to read. Have a white border, with a half-inch band all around and then a white background. Put the text in black.

All personal opinion and suggestions. Disregard as necessary.

Ok so I don't know who created the Vs logo we see on the top of the page, but I would like to know the font that was used for ''The voyageurs''. Ideally, it should be used for the X-mas card design as well. Here is my suggestion:

or

design2f.jpg

Of course, just like the font, the pictures can be changed. I tried to use recent ones from the Peru/Honduras game

Don't want to bring this issue up again but the picture of the Merci Paul banner and the group in that picture had nothing to do with the Voyageurs. I know it sounds a little whiny but I really don't mean to be like that I have no issue with what happened in Montreal it's just this is a Voyageurs Christmas card, not a "Canadian Supporters card".

Agreed 100%.

I also agree. I am looking for that one picture of everyone holding their scarves up high from the Peru game to be the background for our card. It would show exactly who we are in a single picture. Multiple pictures seem too busy to me, but that is just my opinion

Well, of course the pictures can be changed :) it probably isnt too good anyway. the first one is good but the font isnt clear enough

Here is my updated design. The only thing I would do is blend the white part of the logo with the background, and resize everything so it was balanced on the sides and top-bottom. I just didnt want to put the effort in unless we actually use it. I could even blend the red from the v's logo to suit the boarder if that looks better.

Hey guys, don't know if it's too late, but I can take a crack at the design in the next couple of days... Will give me a chance to put my design education to a more enjoyable use!

Also, does anyone have any clue who has the original files for the voyageurs logo and text that's on this site? Whether it's in .EPS or .AI format is perfect.
