Attak press release:

THE ATTAK’S TRAINING CAMP HAS STARTED!

4 players are at the CONCACAF Championship in Mexico

The Trois-Rivières Attak’s official training camp has started last Tuesday. The intensive training camp will be taking place until the beginning of the team’s regular season. The 2009 roster is complete and the players arrived on the field Tuesday, ready to show the coaching staff what they were capable of. Four players were missing, although the reason was more than good. Félix Cardin, Amine Meftouh, Francesco Augustin and Karl W. Ouimette left at the beginning of the week for Mexico to take part in the U17 CONCACAF Championship.

“The camp is going very well up to now and the players arrived on the field last Tuesday with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. It’s going to be interesting to see them develop and progress. We started off the week by having players take physical tests because we want to see their present physical shape”, said Philippe Eullaffroy. The head-coach seemed very please with what he saw on the field this week. He is also very proud to see four of his players head off to Mexico for the CONCACAF Championship which will be held from April 20th to May 2nd.

Cardin, Meftouh, Augustin and Ouimette will be taking part in their first qualification game on April 21st against Honduras. Team Canada will afterwards be playing against the USA team on April 23rd and the game against Cuba will follow two days later (April 25th). These matchups could allow Canada to qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup which will be held from October 24 to November 15, 2009, in Nigeria. The Canadian team must finish in the first 4 positions, on a total of 8 teams, in order to make it to the World Cup. The four young players will be back with the Attak on May 4th for the remainder of the training camp.

The Trois-Rivières Attak will be playing a series of exhibition games before the beginning of the regular season: next Saturday (April 18th ) against Lakeshore at the McGill University stadium at 5 pm, Saturday April 25th against the Celtix of the Haut-Richelieu at their stadium in Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu at 8 pm and Wednesday April 29 against Lachine, in Lachine at 7:30 pm. The Attak should be announcing other preparatory matchups in the weeks to come.

DANIEL AMARAL NEW HEAD COACH OF PORTUGAL FC

Former international player DANNY AMARAL is the new Head Coach of Portugal FC for the 2009 season. Amaral signed with Portugal FC and he is compromise with the youth development within the club. As former professional player in Portugal, Spain, USA and Canada, Amaral is looking very forward to develop players through the years.

Isac Cambas, President of Portugal FC in the Canadian Soccer League, is taking the game here a step further. He wants to go much beyond the occasional attractive exhibition spectacle he so often helps to arrange and his decision is well received by fans and players.

"I am very happy and had the decision to be in charge of Portugal FC because the project allowed me to develop players and young coaches, said Amaral at the conference presentation.

Amaral intends to establish soccer programs within his community that encourages players to strive for a place in his professional team. He’s also prepared to help very special players to go even higher, including overseas.

“While we are encouraging promising players to come to Canada and play in the CSL, those who do well in the CSL can also have an opportunity to be tried in Portugal,” emphasized Cambas.

Portugal FC press release

Last goalscorer from Peruvian Soccer League Ronaille Calheira signed for Portugal FC.

Last goalscorer from Peruvian Soccer League signed for Canadian club Portugal FC. Calheira scored 16 goals last season and hopes this 2009 season will be a better one. Isac Cambas President of Portugal FC and the new Director of the Club Juan Carlos Ramirez Gaston were in Lima doing the transaction. There were many clubs interested in Calheira, but our good relationship with the player was the key to signed a player his calibre, said Isac Cambas.

I am happy to become a new player of Portugal FC, and I am sure I will score more goals in 2009, said Calheira. Calheira played before in Mineiro and Paranaerense, Ribeirao of second division in Portugal, Quindio of Colombia and Sport Ancash of Peru.

For 2009 season Calheira is been loan to Universitario of Peru to play Copa Libertadores of America and Peru first division league.

He scored already against Libertad of Paraguay in Copa Libertadores

Great news for PFC and the league. Calheira seems almost too good for the CSL. Also, no offense to the league or Portugal FC, but why are these official press releases written in broken English?

He is a top striker, I saw him play. That's proof that many top players want to come to Canada even if it is just for the living standard.

^ Agree, those games on sundays were fatal for the Wolves, the other teams were coming to play them all rested and the Wolves were getting their ass kicked sunday after sunday. Yeah let's take the games back to wednesday evenings so the other teams get stack in traffic and arrive to St. Catharines all stressed up and tired. We're finally going to see the Wolves winning at home again! :D

When I looked at the schedule the September dates were not up yet.

Another strange part of the schedule is that the Attak play May 16th and then not again until June 13th.

Also 18 games as opposed to 22 last season, not much better then the PDL.

^ this will be a transition year for the CSL. With the loss of Windsor and the desire from many owners to play a balanced schedule (novel idea eh?), an 18 game schedule is what you get. However, there is an expectation that 1-2 teams will come on board next season so I expect a 22 game schedule will return in 2010.

The good news is that the more ambitious CSL teams can now use up gaps in their schedule by playing freindlies against teams from bigger leagues, even if it is just their reserve teams. I'd like to see TFC schedule matches for their reserves vs. many of the top CSL teams.

More signings announced for the Attak, brings to 18 the # of players on the roster.

Three young players join the ranks of the Impact reserve team. The Trois-Rivières Attak is proud to announce the signature of three new players for the new season: forward Mircea Ilcu, midfielder Chris-Michel Rumuri as well as defenseman Giuseppe “Joey” Cortese.

Mircea Ilcu, 18, is a Romanian player who evolved with the Lac St-Louis Lakers AAA during 5 years before joining the Attak in 2009. He is a young forward filled with talent. Mircea played with the Canadian team in 2004 and 2005 as well as with the Québec select team in 2004 and 2006. Ilcu received the honour of best scorer as well as the award for most valuable player in 2006-2007.

Midfielder Chris-Michel Rumuri, the 17 year old Burundian player, developed with FC Outaouais AAA and Concordia Montréal AAA before signing with the Attak. Rumuri made the selections for the Québec select team between 2006 and 2008 and won the Canadian championship in 2008. With the FC Outaouais club, “Rumi” won the personal honour of most valuable player.

The arrival of defenseman Giuseppe Cortese, 21, with the Trois-Rivières Attak, is certainly good news. The defenseman evolved with numerous clubs before finding a nest with the Lac St-Louis Lakers AAA in 2008. Giuseppe made the Québec selections from 2002 to 2005 and won the Canadian Championship in 2004. Cortese also played with the Canadian team twice, in 2004 and 2005 with which, he participated in two international training camps in Austria and Germany.

The three newly signed players are presently training with the Trois-Rivières Attak since the beginning of their training camp. “Mircea is a technically high levelled forward capable of deciding on the game’s faith on a single move. He is also very precise in front of the net” explained Eullaffroy.

“Chris-Michel, on his side, has a very good vision of the game. He is technically very strong offensively, especially on the one on one. Furthermore, as for Joey Cortese, he has an extraordinary calm on the field and plays very hard on his men. His tactical intelligence and his quality of play are what makes him a good defensive player, “confirmed the head-coach.

“Each player on the 2009 roster have their own particularities and qualities, though they all need to work very hard in order to exploit those talents”, related head-coach Philippe Eullaffroy.

The Trois-Rivières Attak will be playing their fourth preparatory game this Wednesday, April 29, against Lachine at the Parc Dalbé-Viau in Lachine at 7:30 pm. To this date, the Attak registered 1 win and 2 draws in their pre-season camp.
