Another attempt at starting a nats theme song. Trooper's Raise a Little Hell pitched by Daniel in the national team forum.

Nobody's going to help you

You've just got to stand up alone

And dig in your heels

And see how it feels

To raise a little Hell of your own

Raise a little Hell, raise a little Hell, raise a little Hell

Raise a little Hell, raise a little Hell, raise a little Hell

Raise a little Hell, raise a little Hell, raise a little Hell

To the tune of Funiculi Funicula

Lets go Red Boys (all I could think of to fit in there)

You're the number one!

Lets go Red Boys

While were having fun

We'll win the match

We'll win it all

US and Mexico will fall!

Lets go boys in red lets win the match and win it all.

Anyone who wants to give this song much needed upgrades is free to do so!

For an idea of what Funiculi Funicula is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78dDDlOIOS8

This only uses the bridge of the song.

Another possible nats song from the MNT forum:

NEIL YOUNG

"Heart Of Gold"

I want to live,

I want to give

I've been a miner

for a heart of gold.

It's these expressions

I never give

That keep me searching

for a heart of gold

And I'm getting old.

Keeps me searching

for a heart of gold

And I'm getting old.

I've been to Hollywood

I've been to Redwood

I crossed the ocean

for a heart of gold

I've been in my mind,

it's such a fine line

That keeps me searching

for a heart of gold

And I'm getting old.

Keeps me searching

for a heart of gold

And I'm getting old.

Keep me searching

for a heart of gold

You keep me searching

for a heart of gold

And I'm getting old.

I've been a miner

for a heart of gold.

What about the Beatles With a little help from my friends.

It's simple.

It is a recognizable tune.

A large number of people actually know the lyrics, at least the first verse

I bet it would sound great nearly 20K people singing, off key, of course.

just a thought.

What would you think if I sang out of tune

Would you stand up and walk out on me?

Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song

And I'll try not to sing out of key

Oh I get by with a little help from my friends

Mm I get high with a little help from my friends

Mm going to try with a little help from my friends

What do I do when my love is away?

(Does it worry you to be alone?)

How do I feel by the end of the day?

(Are you sad because you're on your own?)

No I get by with a little help from my friends

Mm I get high with a little help from my friends

Mm going to try with a little help from my friends

(Do you need anybody?)

I need somebody to love

(Could it be anybody?)

I want somebody to love

(Would you believe in a love at first sight?)

Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time

(What do you see when you turn out the light?)

I can't tell you, but I know it's mine

Oh I get by with a little help from my friends

Mm I get high with a little help from my friends

Oh I'm going to try with a little help from my friends

(Do you need anybody?)

I just need somebody to love

(Could it be anybody?)

I want somebody to love

Oh I get by with a little help from my friends

Mm going to try with a little help from my friends

Oh I get high with a little help from my friends

Yes I get by with a little help from my friends

With a little help from my friends

Hey guys, I am a big Rangers fan and this chant is widely used but could be translated into something for Canada by changing the words up:

Though the roads be broad and narrow its follow we will, Follow we Will, Follow we will,

Though the road be broad and narrow its follow we will, we will follow in the footsteps of our team godbless them

Follow Follow We will Follow Canada, Everywhere anywhere we will follow on,

U.S Mexico even down to Tobago,

If they go to Kingston we will follow On For there's not a Team like the Reds of Canada,

No not one and there never shall be one,

The U.S. know all about there trouble,

We will fight till the day is done,

For there's not a team like the Reds of Canada

No Not one and there never shall be one!

And of Course, Don't know if this has been mentioned.

Oh when the Reds, (Oh when the Reds)

Oh when the Reds go marching in,

Oh how i want to be in that Number

Oh when the Reds go Marching in.

Saw this on the RPB board and I think it could work for a Canada chant.

Our version is:

"And it's Canada,

Canada,

We're by far the greatest team,

The world has ever seen"

Easy, simple and if we held it for a few minutes we could get the casuals to join in likely.

My contribution.

I don't mean to come into the discussion late and disparage some of the chants here, but I think the more complex ones (several different verses and lyrics you'd need to know ahead of time) have very little chance of getting used by more than 15-20 people. If we want to get the 500+ strong in 114 and 115 on the same page, and hopefully spread some of that to the rest of the stadium, then simple chants are the way to go, even if they get repetitive.

No one will join in if they don't know the song and it's too difficult to learn on the spot. that leaves simple tunes like "one greg sutton, there's only one greg sutton" to the tune of guantanamera (or any player name), and maybe a more difficult one in qu'est-ce que vous chantez (pass the words on to your neighbour and they can pick it up pretty quickly).

The multi-verse opuses celebrating our favourite players and that magnificent day in St. John's or Mr. Archundia are good and funny, but way too esoteric to ever take off. We should be looking to get as many people on board as we can, including casuals, to really get loud, make it audible on TV, and get the players going.

Of course if you want the whole stadium joining in, you need to keep it short. However, if you want the hardcore faithful to be singing something like "I'm forever blowing bubbles" (which could be caught on by the average fan over the course of a couple years), a songbook seems to be a reasonable idea. Of course it would involve agreeing upon songs, distributing songbooks, etc.

My original idea was to compose a songbook that contained a mix of short and long songs so that the uninitiated and initiated alike could sing together. It may go against the 'organic' sensibilities of some, but with such a diverse group of supporters spread accross the country, it may be necessary to help things along a bit.

This may become especially important if we wish to avoid club songs (which follows the no club colour policy mentioned in other threads).

Of course I tried this a year ago and it failed misserably, so that's that.

Oddly enough the chorus of forever blowing bubbles really could be learned in a week or so (especially if you're west ham). I think it's a matter of everybody agreeing on a few longer chants and getting them published and distributed
