Voyageurs History and Mythology Explained

Recommended Posts

Please answer/explain/elaborate:

- Who got arrested at the Edm (or Van) WCQ match and why?

- Why did Stalteri's wife post here and not Stalteri?

- Who was that mystery U20 team member who posted here last year?

- How/Why did the V's banner get removed by the CSA, and was there resistance to this?

Relatedly...

- How many banners do we have, and could we use another?

1.  This was a really long time ago, but I seem to remember Paul's parents being on a coach trip from Vancouver to Seattle, even though Paul obviously wasn't involved in the match.  Anyway, I met them on a bus at some point.  My favourite Canadian player ever.  I loved watching him run up to get involved in the play, but never get caught out.  He knew exactly when to go and when not to.  He was loved at Bremen too, if you look at the bottom two photos, you'll see to what degree.   http://www.paulstalteri.com/club.htm

2.  There was a pre-Voyageurs banner that was confiscated by security in Edmonton (maybe 1992?) during the WCQ match against Australia during Kevin Pipe's reign of terror.  It was a drawing of a pipe in a red circle with a line through it with the words "PIPE OUT".  The Super Canucks banner was appropriated by Dutch supporters during a WC warm up match in Toronto to keep the rain off their delicate Dutch noggins.

In case this has not been posted, just came across it looking for something else from 2001:

A thread on the earliest Canada soccer boards and their participants.

Can't get it to link properly but I found a match report mentioning Joe Torchia in Winnipeg playing for a side called Players Club in 2013. Seems he was in the second division after all - not in Brasil but in the Manitoba Major Soccer League: http://www.itsportsnet.com/league.php?scriptName=BOXSCORE&gameID=2030384&sportID=1&divisionID=86450&leagueID=5551&seasonID=9012

Do I win some sort V's service award?

Is "Ed" still posting here? Is he using a different name?

I remember and enjoyed his Canucks in Germany threads.

My username did not transfer correctly with one of the site upgrades. Still read but do not post much at all.

Anyone in touch with the Iranians? Reza and was it Mehrdad/Mirza and Behrouz? Are David Bailey, Winnipeg Fury, and Ed, the only "original" still active on the Boards/twitter/at the stadium?

i cant find anything unless these topics from network54.com and look: on there, most of the topics are asking: where is Joey Torchia?

I am sorry but it doesnt proves that he was a real player.

Nooo, I meant the 'myth' surrounding the player was real.

If you look around, you will find that there was a player named Joe Torchia who played in and around Winnipeg.

2014 Joe was playing for Players FC in the Manitoba Major Soccer League - Division 2.

Yeah, I know about the myth of course. In Brazil, we say that a lie repeated a thousand times goes true. 😃

I wonder that how this speculation started, it looks like someone back in early 2000 decided to troll everybody about it and then Joey became a new canadian young star soccer. hahahahaha

btw, Alejandro Kukovica plays for Campo Grande AC U-20, maybe he is the Joey Torchia of this decade lol
