CPL inaugural match - #1 attended match for 2019?

Mr. Kim also holds the distinction of being the first player in Canadian Soccer League history to register a hat-trick: Kim turns his Fury on Blizzard: Toronto Star; Toronto, Ont. 9 July 1987: C10. Forward Han Kim scored three goals, the first three-goal performance in the Canadian Soccer League, to spark the Winnipeg Fury to a 4-1 triumph over the visiting Toronto Blizzard last night. Kim connected in the 10th minute on a direct free kick annd followed with his second goal of the game six minutes later. Teammate Paul Clark's goal made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute to close out the first-half scoring. Luis Lufi broke the Fury shutout with his second goal of the season in the 55th minute and Kim then notched his third of the season in the last minute of the game.

I grew up on the west coast and the Douglas fir is my go to conifer when I need to remind my English/Australian missus that she knows nothing of majestic trees. 😁

FYP Anyway, I think Kadioglu would be a huge get. I had classified him in the "pie in the sky" category, so if he filed his one-time switch to join Canada that would be amazing.

He was one of the biggest attacking talents in the Eredivisie, hence the contract with Fener. But it was obviously going to be a huge leap from a low-table EDV club to a Turkish powerhouse. It's a huge leap for Larin who is way more experienced. Still a major talent though we should be lucky to get him. However I'm thinking Bassong.

That's a bit much to ask from a first year club, don't you think? I agree that neither logo is a finished product. I'd also agree that a tree is a better symbol for the area than a trident (but I'm not from the city). Still, I don't mind V.I. for Vancouver Island. Also, I can't be the only one that's surprised a Douglas fir was chosen to represent the island over a western red cedar? They've always been a cornerstone of NW coast culture.

    York 9 2019 launch/offseason thread

Canada-based Tsai, 20, whose parents are from Taiwan, is eligible for the Taiwan national team and he was called up and trained with the squad last year. York 9 have listed him in their squad as a Canadian. In the past year, Tsai had a trial for La Liga side Levante UD while playing for North Mississauga SC, a team based in Toronto who play in League 1 Ontario. He was previously with the Sheridan Bruins, the soccer team of Sheridan College in Ontario. York 9 confirmed signing midfielder Tsai in a statement on Friday last week, along with defenders Morey Doner and Saint Kitts and Nevis international Justin Springer. “He [Tsai] was a little hidden gem. Just watching him train now, we’re just excited at the potential he has … he plays with flair and always has a smile on his face. He’s one we’re all excited to work with and push him to the next level,” York 9 head coach Jimmy Brennan said. Tsai was a standout performer in the Toronto #GotGame Open Trials and scouts called him a “crafty midfielder” who impressed with his technique on the ball, a club statement said. Tsai could make his debut in the first-ever Canadian Premier League match when York 9 travel to take on Forge at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario, on April 27.

    Gold Cup 2019

It's also not inconceivable that they go with a joint Copa America while also doing a Gold Cup on an alternate cycle. At any rate, I think an expanded Copa is win-win. It's likely a bigger payday for the South American sides vs what they currently get, and it gets the US and Mexico playing against much better competition in a more competitive atmosphere on a regular basis. And as a Canadian fan, while I celebrated our Gold Cup win wildly, I think Canada qualifying for the Copa would be a much bigger deal to the general public (akin to the smaller countries qualifying for the Euro).

Purely based on his age and experience already in the game I'd be really shocked it he had committed to Canada so soon. I agree with the situation being in our favour but still looks more like a Cristante than a Arfield and we will be playing the long game IMO. Unless he has a real connection to Canada if I was him I would be at least waiting this Fenerbahce move out and then the club he moves to after before committing to Canada. He has serious time on his side. Would be happy to be wrong it would be a statement for our program! Another reason I am pretty sure it isn't him is his playing stats this year. Would he even merit a call up above others? He is obviously at a talent level over the last few years that would merit it but no league games this season makes it a tougher call. Would Herdman be all Ra-Ra about someone that hasn't played. Maybe?

    2019 CPL All-Star game.

As I proposed, an annual season-ending All-Star game in Victoria, in conjunction with the CPL's AGM and player banquet awards evening at the Empress Hotel, seems like a great way to cap-off the season.

Upon further inspection: Just checked and he only has one appearance for Fenerbahce as a sub in a cup match. 10 times on the bench in the league. 6 appearances for their u21 side. This move has to be a massive disappointment for him and he probably is desperate for football. He’s not going to get called for Netherlands youth teams at this rate and playing for us or Turkey requires a one time switch. Playing for Turkey is no guarantee either and he’s probably not too enthused by his time there. This may be like the anti-Eustaquio situation where the timing is working perfectly but in our favour.

Absolutely! Ferdi would be absolutely huge IMO. I still think we will get the majority of the other names mentioned. Kadioglu wasn't one I would expect, he might have stalled at Fenerbache so far but his age, potential and ability is huge. For that reason it would turn my head more than the other names on the list.

Disagree - this would be a big get because it would appear we have the weakest ties from the 3 nations he’s eligible for. A 19 year old Dutch u21 international at a big club like Fenerbahce is anything but underwhelming imo. FWIW, I have my doubts that it’s him.

    2019 CPL All-Star game.

I thought the season was going to end near the end of October? Meaning an 'All Star Game' would then have to wait until the beginning of November. One of the benefits of NOT renewing my TFC tickets for a 13th year is I won't be going to their CCL game next Tuesday with a temperature of -10C (of course the game is at night)...not as bad as -17C which I'd heard someone say 14 days ago.

^^ Sure it's not one of the more exciting names that was being bandied about, but if it is him, it's not a development to be easily dismissed either. A 19 yr old, with over 25 appearances in the Eredivisie, now signed to one of the traditional powerhouses in Turkey and who has over 20 caps for Holland's u18-u21 youth teams. We've come a long way in the last few years when a player with this resume and who has other options for playing internationally potentially might commit to us and the news basically gets eyerolls around here!

    2019 CPL All-Star game.

Should we copy MLS or follow the top European Leagues which do not bother with an all star game. Hmm, tough one. Particularly when you consider our already short season.

    2019 CPL All-Star game.

After the season? Then you'd be playing in the cold weather that would limit the attendance. Let's get through one season first. Yes I think it was a blessing that CPL got a CCL league spot a year before we expected although the selection process of who gets to go is sketchy. However unlike some who say don't go until 2020, if that spot is given to somewhere like Belize for 'just the one year' it will be hard as hell to get it back.

Canadian Premier League joins CONCACAF League

Because MLS is a fake league that wasted over 20 years of US soccer progress and it has harmed Canada too. I'm in the US and we don't have better choices, but I will NOT let MLS ruin Canadian soccer! If any Canadians have grievances, I'll visit MLS HQ and burn that shithole down myself!

    York 9 2019 launch/offseason thread

I'll should be able to post something tomorrow about tonight's pub night in Unionville. Almost 35 minutes of sound files with head coach Brennan, assistant coach Isacco, president Ganzhorn, and players Morey Doner, Steven Furlano, and Manny Aparicio. All unrushed and Kurt Larson free! Then I have a 5 minute interview with Furlano. News is tomorrow they will announce who the AS Blainville player is. Also Brennan said there are three imports signed now. From Sweden and Japan we already know but a Colombian he didn't name.
