I don’t think we get anything other than “These 8 clubs were made members of the CPL.”

I'm of two minds about it On one hand, if they are good enough they are good enough, their gender shouldn't matter On the other hand part of the idea of men's and women's leagues is that one isn't inferior to the other, one is just less developed, and it sort of undermines women's leagues and their development if it is seen as "moving up" to join a men's league Of course it's a bit academic, since there are no semi-pro or professional teams for women in Calgary or Edmonton. Hopefully we see that change sooner rather than later.

Not saying there is. I just have no idea what the CSA's mandate is when in comes to allowing new members into the fold. It would suck to have to wait for the board at the AGM in May every year to officially approve of a new club. Akin to the DFB and the DFL (German Federation vs German League)

Yet the Mexican coach all but laid down for Honduras and fielded a glorified f***ing youth team in a 0-0 draw. Nothing wrong with that......

    General Discussion on CMNT

Our ranking is important but not as important as playing matches regularly. Both factors should be considered when scheduling matches and choosing opponents but it would not be good policy to put top priority on achieving the highest possible ranking at the cost of not playing matches. As an aside, Wales have played the FIFA ranking system like a violin but looking at the 32 teams in the World Cup I do not see them there. Getting your ranking well above your actual ability is great but at some point you are going to have to prove it on the pitch.

Yep. When the launch was April 2018 Saskatoon wasn't going to be ready. 2019 was the aim. They mentioned they would play initially at prairieland park, converting the grandstand and area around. Then they are looking at a downtown stadium. Last report someone mentioned a few days ago was saying it the hockey arena that's on the edge of town moves down town instead they might want that previous arena land. That said i don't know why they would want to move there given the priority given to downtown. Playing permenantly at prairieland would be infinitely better. Maybe prairieland is completely off the table which has put a halt to everything? Who knows though. Could just as likely still be all good but it's been deafening silence for too long.

Yes, not a huge surprise, it’s the CSA AGM. I imagine it will be similar to last year, these 8 will be announced as member clubs. Official team announcements will follow as per PBs schedule.

DISCLAIMER: The following post is pure conjecture and has no basis on any inside information or knowledge of the (hopefully) ongoing discussion between any perspective owners and the cities involved: Both Saskatoon and Regina have very little land available in or near the downtown core. The land that is available (S'toon - rail yards in north downtown and Regina - railyards on Dewdney and old Mosaic site) has been part of public consultations and preliminary planning on the development of that land in the respective cities. If they want downtown stadiums (and they should), they will have to make the city a proposal that will provide either or both cities with proposals that will make economic sense. There will also have to be a push from the grassroot soccer community that will put pressure on the Councils and fellow citizens to consider it and to turn down Developers that are willing to drop Millions of dollars into the local economy to build new communities. tldr/ I'm not sure we have the appitite yet to make it happen.

I thought the line was that they were never going to be ready for *2018* but 2019 was an option. I think the stadium talk was somewhere past 2020 but they were thinking of playing out of Prairieland in the interim?

I'm a bit confused, and I'm taking this with a grain of salt because of it...I thought Belan had secured a temporary venue already? Not up to par? My suspicion is still to swap Ottawa and Saskatoon until we hear it from the league officially, but we'll see

I don't think that many of them could. Women's soccer is slower than PDL and I do think that CPL is at a higher level than PDL. Also, the fact that FIFA says that women's can't play on men's team means that I'd be shocked that they would go that way anyway. If I'm CPL, I'm not touching it with a 10 foot-pole unless someone challenges the FIFA ruling to the CAS.

Steph Labbé was denied a place on the Calgary Foothills in the PDL, because of her gender. Has anyone asked the CanPL if they'd accept a female player on one of their teams? I'd wager a few of our WNT players could crack the XI of some of the CanPL teams with relative ease. It would be a super progressive move, and would generate more press for the league. I'd be in favour of it.

Pedro Pacheco played 90 as captain of Santa Clara as they won away 0-2 to Oliveirense, with 2 games left. Some classifications have them second tied with third place Academica, others have them 3rd. I don't know how they decide when tied. The first two go up to top flight.

Labbe has tryout with Calgary Foothills

There has never been one from what I can remember. Perugia which was in Serie A tried to sign a couple of elite women players but they declined ( Birgit Prinz and Hannah Ljungberg) It was more of a publicity stunt though. The one that got close was actually Maribel Dominguez who signed in the Mexican second division. FMF deferred to FIFA who said that she was uneligible. It's possible that USSF had something to say to PDL about it.

    Ottawa Fury 2018 season

Fury draw over 8000 for their annual school day game on a beautiful Wednesday morning. Chris Mannella takes a stupid red card but the Fury hang on for the scoreless draw against one of the USL's highest scoring teams. Crepeau and Henry both played well. Reid and Howarth spoiled a few chances going forward.

OK, so the announcement was about basketball rather than soccer. Let's not start talking about how the CEBL is somehow going to kill CPL. 8 days, 2 hours, 16 minutes until the next CPL club announcement.

    Potential CPL logo concepts

"I think it turned out pretty darn good. " Sorry, I disagree. I think it's excellent. I've wished the team would play in contrasting shorts for the last 30 years or so, so that helps, but I like the whole thing.
